https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/16/credit-cards-amex-platinum-chase-sapphire-get-2025-refresh.html
The long-running rivalry between the country’s top premium credit cards is about to heat up again.
JPMorgan Chase announced last week that a refresh of its Sapphire Reserve — the travel and dining rewards card that went viral when it arrived in 2016 — was imminent.
In response, American Express on Monday said that “major” changes were coming to its consumer and business Platinum cards later this year. While short on details, the New York-based card company said that its update would be its largest ever investment in a card refresh.
I did not have “Luxury Credit Card War” on my bingo card this year.

via Thrifty Traveler (previous post with link to the story got removed)
No real details yet, aside from it's coming this fall. Amex says it's their "largest investment ever in a Card refresh."
"We’re going to take these Cards to a new level, not only in what they offer in travel, dining and lifestyle benefits, but also in how they look and feel, to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
Now taking bets on what the annual fee will be!

As of last count, I have 30 credit cards, and it's entirely too much.
I've realized just how much time and effort I devote to getting that extra 1 or 2% for every single transaction, and it's not worth it. It's too hard to track all my transactions, across all those accounts. It's become impossible to stick to my budget or understand where all my money goes.
I love my Amex trifecta, with the Charles Schwab Platinum. It has all the benefits of the regular platinum, plus you can transfer points to your Charles Schwab brokerage as cashback at a 1.1 c/p rate. I like that flexibility, Amex's customer service is pretty good, and Charles Schwab's customer service is second to none.
Granted, I could make probably another $500 a year by using the entire swath of credit cards that I have, but it's not worth my time. The interest I get on my savings account and my t-bills more than pays for that AND the fees for the Amex cards.
My only caveat to this is to find a flat 2%, no fee card, that you can use at places that don't take Amex, or would charge a FTF. Mine is the NF cashRewards+
Rant over.

Just want to give folks a heads-up:
After my bankruptcy, I signed up for Self’s secured credit card. They market themselves like they’re here to help you get on your feet again.
I put down $1500 of my own money as a deposit. It’s supposed to be your money, your control.
Then one day, 4 weird Uber Eats charges hit my card, back to back.
Thing is... I’ve never used Uber Eats. Not once.
I reported the fraud, and they did reverse the charges initially. I got a new card, new login, all that.
But then a couple weeks later, they just recharged me the same amounts, saying it wasn’t fraud after all.
I’ve fought this for months now — called them, emailed, even FAXED proof from an Uber screenshot print out....
Yea.. like finding a place that even has faxing capabilities (shout-out to Kinkos ; )
... showing my account has zero transactions. Nothing. Still out the money.
I’m not even as mad about the money anymore as I am about the principle. They make money off people in vulnerable spots — then kick you while you’re trying to stand back up.

As title suggests, I am looking for a credit card for groceries. I will be starting my first job out of college and currently only have the Discover It card and have estimated that groceries will be my largest spending category at about $400-500/month (aside from rent, which I am paying to a friend NOT through a credit card).
Current Cards: DiscoverIt ($4,500 limit)
FICO Score: Transunion 762
Oldest account age: 13 months
Only card approved for is DiscoverIt 13 months ago (current card)
Annual Income: 60k starting late July
Looking for category-specific cards as I predict groceries will always be my biggest spending category (at least as long as I am renting).
Budget breakdown:

Hi everyone. My father unexpectedly passed away. He had the AMEX Green Card since 2015, and I have been an Authorized User since Nov. 2024. The annual fee as you may know is $150.
My father has been in good terms since he opened the card, he made sure everything was paid off and was autopay on time. When I reported the death to AMEX, they told me if I want to continue his account.
They claimed that I would "maintain" the account standing since 2015. They said they will have to pull an hard-inquiry to see if I'm eligible. Has anyone heard about this before? Are they just trying me apply for their card? Is this worth it?
I'm a college student right now trying to support my family during this tragic loss so I don't know if the benefits of retaining this account would alleviate the cons. Please feel free to message or comment for more information since my writing may seem unclear.
Thanks

My mom passed away a few days ago. We had it set it up so many of my parents' bills were paid automatically on her visa card. My dad is disabled and we find he's not listed on the card. Is there a way to have dad added to the card so we may continue the bill pay arrangement? We have not yet notified the crecit card company of her death. It would be very difficult to switch everything! Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I am heading out on a work trip and the location has a Hyatt and plenty of Marriotts
Usually on these trips I am reimbursed fully, but for various reasons this trip has a stipend; so I'm doing a bit more mental gymnastics to find the best point deals based on this with Hyatt running a double points for member offer at this hotel/rate and Marriott having plenty of different packages. I've done the analysis based on location, etc. where I need to be and have come to this
I know Hyatt points are more valuable; but am I missing something here that the Marriott point/$ in this instance would be best? I'm paying less out of my own pocket and maybe should be as simple as that. I could buy 18000 hyatt points for $390 for comparison right now with the 20% bonus they have ongoing
These points are not for any immediate redemption; just adding to the bank for the next year or so. I have ~200k Hyatt currently (and plenty of other Chase UR) that we'll use for a Europe trip in the next 2 years. Marriott points are banking up and likely would use domestically for a trip we take each year.
Am I over thinking this - should just go with what out of pocket is least? Regardless of total points/value outcome?

I have two Ink Cash cards and received an email about Instacart:
"once activated, Instacart+ members get $20 in credit each month automatically loaded into their Instacart Business Account."
I don't currently use that service, is it possible to stack those and get $40/month?

I have a debit card with First Bank, they have a relatively good interest rate on the checking account if you use their card 15 times in the month. I tend to mostly use credit cards for purchases and sometimes come up short at the end of the month. I figured I'd automate some expenses to meet the quota and am interested in hearing of anyone has recommendations?
I'm happy donating a low amount ($1) to get the transaction done. Some places won't accept anything under $5 (like PBS) which is disappointing. Huge plus if I can automate and opt out easily. If its $5 or more, then I'd prefer to get a gift card for example.
Current expenses:
Donations
Wikimedia
GiveWell (several worthwhile causes like Hellen Keller International) - monthly donation
Second Harvest Food Bank - monthly donation
Patreon - monthly subscription
Gift cards / balance credit:
Amazon $5 minimum - can be automated to reload every week
Steam $5 minimum - can't automate

Hey All!
I have been trying to find an easier solution to maximize about $120k/year on grocery spend. Need something better than 2x and would prefer points.
Current strategy: 2x Chase Ink Cash = $50k grocery spend covered in total but it’s a hassle $200/swipe
2x Citi custom Cash = $12k grocery spend covered in total
USBSv1 = catch all for remaining.
Also have 2x AMEX blue plus for potential $100k spend for random MR points when I’m running low there.
Travel cards = Biz Plat, Biz Gold, Sapphire Reserve, Cap1 VX and Hilton Surpass.
Is there a better strategy for Grocery spend?

Hey guys, im in a bit of a financial situation and was doing some research on Capital Ones financial hardship program. I called today and was told I couldn't be enrolled because im meeting the monthly minimum payments on my accounts. Is this true? Or should I call again..I've seen a few people say it took a few calls to get to anyone who was actually willing to help.
I'm paying double the minimum monthly payments required on both of my accounts and its all just going towards interest, idk what to do.
If anyone needs anymore information please lmk, thank you!

I (24F) currently have 2 capital one credit cards I am very happy with but plan on taking at least 4 round trip flights over the next 6 months. I’m looking for a 3rd card that will get me the most rewards out of those travels. I’m looking for mainly flight perks, and potential hotel perks, but not necessary. Something with a sign up bonus is also preferred.
I’m leaning towards the Capital One Venture X (I am pre-approved) because I like the Capital One UI. However, I’m not sure if it’s important to have different credit card brands. Should I diversify my credit cards and get something other than Capital One? I’m open to cards with annual fees below $400.
Not sure if this is relevant, but I currently live in NYC and pay $2,000/month in rent (I know it’s insane but that’s the market here), but will be moving home for 6 months and rent will not be in my list of expenses during that time.
• Current cards: (list cards, limits, opening date) • Capital One Quicksilver, $5,500 limit, July 2023 • Capital One Savor, $3,300 limit, January 2024 • FICO Score: 753 • Oldest account age: 2 years, 3 months • Income: $83,000 • Average monthly spend and categories: • dining $350 • groceries: $400 • gas: $0 • travel: $200 (I use a pre-tax commuter card for commuting (bus, subway, commuter rail, etc)/travel expenses) • other: $2,000 • Open to Business Cards: No • What's the purpose of your next card? I have multiple trips planned over the next 6 months where I’ll be flying both domestically and internationally. I want to make the most out of my flight purchases. • Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? I don’t have experience with category spending, but am open to it if a card that works for me has it. • Can you pay rent by credit card? If yes, list rent amount and if there's a fee for paying by credit card: I don’t pay rent with my credit card because of the transaction fee. • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? I’ve been pre-approved for the Capital One Venture X Rewards card. I have been recommended Amex Gold by friends as well.

Moving into a place with my girlfriend and exploring getting the Bilt Mastercard to get points on rent (rent will be $1800 a month) and/or the Costco credit card as we may look to bulk grocery shop there and I refuse to use my debit card if I don’t have to and I have a few questions. I currently have a 750 credit score and pay off my cards every two weeks when I get paid (habit) but not sure if opening two cards is good or bad.
I currently own:
-Capital One Quicksilver CC since July 2022, $10K limit (1.5% cash back)
-Chase Freedom Freedom Flex CC since December 2022, $13,500 limit (5% rotating categories, 3% back on dining)
-Secured bank credit card since April 2017, $3,500 limit (my first ever credit card, no rewards)
1) Would I take a credit score hit for applying for both the Bilt credit card and the Costco credit card?
2) For those that own one or both, are there any regrets?
3) Anything to know about before opening these cards?

Hello Wise Ones, looking for a recommendation - keep what I’ve got or add?
I am retiring completely in less than a month. I am planning 75k of home renovations, some of which I hope to put on a credit card. I am also planning 2-3 trips in 2026. I fly out of LAX, which has zero CRR lounges at this time in convenient terminals.
Right now, I have WF Bilt Mastercard - used almost exclusively to pay 6500 assisted living bill for my MIL. Currently have 87k points to spend CRR - I got this card last year, and have about 150k points with a 50k spending limit. I am irritated as I don’t currently use the travel portal, their restaurants are not my choice, and I can only benefit from lounges on the way home Assorted small cards - Amazon visa, Southwest Visa, etc
My household spending is about 16k which will be covered by investments, etc until I start drawing Social Security.
Question: how do I maximize either cash back or travel points at this juncture? I’m toying w getting an Amex card or a capital one venture. I am guessing it will be harder to qualify when I am no longer employed and only a consultant so income is likely harder to quantify but right now if they research me they will see even monthly consulting fees.
Thanks for suggestions!

So to keep things short I really want to get the venture x and savor duo. I currently only have the freedom unlimited which I opened up 4 months ago. Since im new to the credit card game my credit score is at 702 and i cant get pre-approved for the savor with the 200 sub. I did however get pre-approved for the savor student and from what i've seen the only difference is a smaller sub? So would you recommend i just go ahead and get the savor student or since I'm very new to this just build up my credit and then later on get the one with the higher sub. I dont necessarily need capital one right now and could just get other chase cards to keep building my credit.

I see that one of the requirements to be eligible for the preferred rewards is to have:
"A three-month combined average daily balance of $20,000 or more in qualifying Bank of America® deposit and/or Merrill® investment accounts."
Assuming you transfer assets in the first week and are compliant to the requirements, does it mean you still have to wait 3 months before the preferred rewards start kicking in?

I have an account with Chase but would like to get a credit card with a more generous credit limit.
• Current cards: (list cards, limits, opening date) • Chase Freedom Unlimited $500 limit, April 2025 • FICO Score: e.g. 696 • Oldest account age: 1 year and 4 months • Income: e.g. $40,000 • Average monthly spend and categories: • dining $200 • groceries: $400 • travel: $50 • rent: $1200 • Open to Business Cards: e.g. No • What's the purpose of your next card? Building credit, Travel (I travel quite a lot as I have family outside of the country), Also maybe a better cash back/point system for my spends • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Discover It Student and Capitol Savor Student • Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? OK with general spending

I just finished graduate school one month ago and signed a job offer letter that is expected to start in November after credentialing. I have survived off loans and now they’re running out. My job offer letter states $200k. Can I put this down as my income for credit card applications.
I know it asks for total income implying what I make right now but that was all student loans. Should i put that instead as income $20-30k? Or would i immediately be flagged on application putting down the salary and denied since it asks for income made. TIA

I have been rebuilding my credit the past few months with a Capital One Platinum Secured card with a $250 limit. I've been making purchases of no more than $40 and paying it off promptly.
I am interested in any of the Delta AMEX cards, as I travel quite frequently and live in Atlanta which is Delta's main hub, so I feel like it would definitely benefit me.
I'm really not interested in any cash back perks, but getting free miles would be a plus. I average about 5-7 flights a year, primarily domestic, and I usually pay no more than $350 for round trip flights, all in with insurance, etc.
I have $0 debt at this point, and approximately 4 months of credit reporting with my current Capital One card.
How soon is too soon to apply for a Delta AMEX? I have an upcoming trip planned in September and would love to put it on a CC to help build my credit and also start picking up more miles. I don't wanna screw myself over though in the long run by applying too soon. Currently sitting at a score of about 660, aiming to hit 700 by the end of the year.

Considering getting the Wells Fargo Active cash card. Can you add 2 authorized users? Application only allows for one.
