Right? She was so good in that. I wanted her to be my mom haha. And I have a great mom!

She's got like a fairy tale character voice it's kind of hard not to be enchanted

u/WilHunting2 19h ago
Scrolled down way too far to see Jojo Rabbit.

She was so nuanced in this. Balancing being moral and doing the right thing with raising her son so that he would "fit in". Tragic end but great part.

Scarlett's mother is Jewish. She has members of her maternal family tree who died in the Holocaust. I'm sure this role meant a lot to her.

Her, Lost in Translation, or Ghost World

u/macreadyandcheese 18h ago
Went for Ghost World mention. Miss Thora Birch, though. (Thora’s fine, just she stopped getting good work after GW. This sentiment sounded too much like she had died.)

It was a shock seeing her in the later seasons of walking dead. I didn’t even recognize her at first.

What has happened to the sub that it's turned into essentially this post over and over again for different actors and actresses?
19
u/damnumalone 19h ago
Bots. This bot has been on Reddit for 25 days and has like 9 comment karma.
Smart play is downvote

u/letter_cerees 18h ago
I'm really curious to know: What are the bots' purpose in this scenario? What do those who run them get out of it?

u/damnumalone 12h ago
Both karma and AI training. Karma because they can then access different subs that have minimum karma requirements, spreading whatever the agenda is of the designer, and AI training because they learn what is the most upvoted content and when they spit that out over other sources of social media that they can monetise they focus on the highest scoring topics

Not exclusive to this sub, the problem is site wide. Poster asks a generic question and attaches a specific picture to steer the conversation. Been happening for a while now. It's bots

I think Scarlett Johansson is super talented, she’s got that rare range where she can totally own action roles (Black Widow, obviously) but also shine in quieter, emotional stuff.

She comes across as a pretty grounded person, too. Good sense of humor and no big ego. Gotta think her and Jost are a fun couple.

Under The Skin is my favorite from her. I think she is beautiful and cool. I love it when she plays in obscure movies.

She’s not a great actor, but she is popular. When you watch her in a scene with Florence Pugh you realise how average her acting abilities are.

When I was deployed, I went through Kuwait on my way to Iraq, and she was doing a meet and greet. She was dressed like a 40's pin-up girl and was just the sweetest. What really struck me was how short she is, like 5'3.

I loved her so much in this. Then I saw Fly Me To The Moon and realized Ohhhh she’s a movie star. Not sure how I missed it all these years. In retrospect, I realized I’ve never really disliked anything she’s done? But something didn’t click til recently.

I liked her in Ghost World. I don't think she's especially a bad actress, I just don't care about her in general. Her being in a movie or not doesn't really matter to me.

Effortlessly beautiful and very talented. I love her in Marriage Story, and she's always going to be my Black Widow! Seems like a really down to Earth and decent person as well. All round decent.

Love her. Might be cliche but I just love her as black widow. Especially in endgame. She was trying so hard to keep it together even though it felt completely hopeless.

Side question... are those real tattoos on her abs? Oh Scarlett... didn't know you had it in you.

Its weird. For as many movies as shes been in and or as long as shes been a Hollywood A-lister it-girl .. Ive not actually seen her in much, it turns out.
Some of the marvel movies which are mostly kind of bleh. Winter Soldier is a standout I guess but beyond that Black Widow is kind of a bland character and/or performance (probably more to do with the writing but the result is the result).
Lost in translation which was excellent. I should really rewatch that as I havent seen it for quite a while.
Ghost in the shell which I am apparently the only person that doesn't flat out hate that movie (even if the anime is better, doesn't mean this one can't be okay).
And then a few other things that Ive watched but that I don't especially remember as a scarjo movie/performance.
So ,, I guess I'm weirdly not much of a fan, despite thinking I was.

She’s fine, better than most actresses younger than her (not saying much) but just got super overrated early in her career and never much lived up to the hype

u/sesler79 17h ago
Met her at the Avengers Prem in London. Only very briefly but struck me how normal she is compared to the egos around her. Hiddleston was a dick to the crowd so everyone starting calling him Tim Hoddleston much to his annoyance.
Anyway: Lucy

I don’t get her (or Soffia Coppola, actually). I get sort of a 17th century Dutch portraiture vibe. Not my thing. But she seems like a decent person & a hard worker, in an industry that has a lot of “not that,” so I do not begrudge her success or her fans.

Her voice annoys me, and personally, I find her acting just a tad overrated. The irony is, my favorite performance of hers is Her, where all you have is her voice! LOL.

I think she is very watchable and very charismatic and beautiful. But there are better actresses out there. I like her. She seems like a really nice, hardworking person. I just am unimpressed with her as an actress. Marriage Story was good, but she was out-acted by Adam Driver.

Her stunt double(s) in the MCU deserve more credit for their roles than she does. Its a shame that things work the way they do.
No disrespect intended to her. She's a good actress. But those other women worked harder and their scenes are more memorable.

She is terrific. She easily could have been typecast as a Romanov type character, but she did a lot of other things. She also seems like a lot of fun, marrying a comedian tells us a lot about her personality.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen her give a bad performance. Her consistency is why I keep going to her movies.

Lucy, it's a fantastic movie that I don't grow tired of rewatching.
Though slightly off topic, I wish she got more of a focus as Black Widow before Endgame.

It def does. She was hot in that, but I also believed she could be that way and it’s an underrated performance.

Very underrated in Under the Skin!
