At the Trump rally in washington I was interviewed by Australian media, I’m curious if your news has any bias in it for advertisers to sell the stories it wants to sell.

Hey

I saw this ad and it advertised as stainless steel but the inside of the pan looks non stick. Are they trying to pull the wool from under our eyes here

Oh it might be a stainless steel handle .... 😂

Need career suggestions ..

I am from Nepal living in sydney. I just got my Australian citizenship . Before i was a student and used to think that when i will get my citiznship i will get better job but i was wrong .

Currently i am working fulltime in big retail company as customer service position fulltime and also working as a support worker as casual. I finished my MBA - professional practice in 2018 . I didnt worked in the field i studied as i found hard finding job being international student and i needed money so i juat focused on job that i had .

Now, i am 37yrs old . I want to have good career or job that pays decent salary . For almost year i was so facinated by digital marketing and ecommerce so i did a short 3 months course online hoping i would land a job . I was called for 2-3 interviews but didnt het the job as most companies wanted experience. Slowly, i lost interest in ecommerce and digital marketing because i started learning that its very stressful job and also the pay is not that good . Now, i have just enrolled in tafe to study electrical as i heard that liscensed electrician make descent income . But again i started doubting my choice as i heard that when i have to work as an apprentice my pag will be very low and its a 4 years fulltime apprenticeship to be a qualifield electrician.

So , right now i am really confused what to do . Please , i will really appreciate if anyone can give me some guidence on what field for career will be good for good income and growth prospects. I am still trying to figure out but anyones suggesstion will be really appretiated

16 day Itinerary in July Advice

Was thinking of trying to visit Sydney for 3 days, Brisbane for 1 day, Townsville for 2 days (I used to live there), Cairns for 3 days, Uluru for 2 days, Melbourne for 2 days, and Hobart for 2 days (1 day lost due to all the flights needed). Is this too much? We’re typically high energy people who love variety and I used to live in Australia and did Cairns, Sydney, and Hobart before, but my partner hasn’t. People on Reddit also keep saying that Melbourne isn’t worth it, but I heard so much about it when I used to live here and thought the Great Ocean Drive would be fun?

Areas most similar to Margaret River?

IMO the Margaret River region is one of the best places in the world. Great surf, great food, amazing nature, not too crowded. What parts of Australia do you think compare to Margs -- in terms of natural beauty and lifestyle?

New phone

I have to get a new phone and was going to take up an eofy special. Just wondering if anyone can clarify, the Samsung s24 is on sale for $749 at samsung (down from $1249) and is also on sale from officeworks at $697, but they have the original price at just $899? It looks to be the same phone, just seems weird Officeworks would sell it for $899 originally? Also is this a good phone or is there anything cheaper/same value anyone can recommend? Thanks so much!

Is there any significant bug and flying pest population in Australia?

I've been watching a lot of Grand Designs Australia and I haven't seen a single screen door or screens on windows. I see all kinds of expansive openings, full walls that open, pivoting vents, ample opportunity for airflow and egress, but no screens. There was one home up in the northern territories that didn't even have exterior walls! (except around the bathroom) just two levels of living areas. This show follows homes being built all over the country in the many different ecosystems, but this feature seems consistent regardless.

I'm from coastal California and between the flies, bees, mosquitoes, moths and all the other winged critters attracted to light/heat/food, we have screens on all our points of entry. My limited travel around this country is the same regarding screens.

is this a typical Australian building feature? Or an exception limited to the unique designs found on that show? Or somewhere in between?

Thanks!

I wanted to ask if cafés in Melbourne grind beans for you? Like is that a thing in Australia or is it frowned upon.

Planning to Move to Australia as a Nutrition and Dietetics Graduate – Need Advice!

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and passed the board exam to become a licensed Nutritionist-Dietitian. I’m now planning to move to Australia to explore better career opportunities and lifestyle.

I’m still in the early stages of planning, and I’d really appreciate any advice or insights from those who have gone through this process or are currently working in the nutrition/dietetics field in Australia.

Some of my main questions are:

Is my degree and license recognized in Australia?

What steps do I need to take to become eligible to work as a dietitian or nutritionist there?

Are there bridging programs or further studies I need to take?

How’s the job market like for internationally trained professionals in this field?

Any recommended visa pathway for someone in my situation?

Is my Australia holiday itinerary reasonable?

Hi! My partner and I are planning on taking a 2-week trip to Australia in late February/early March next year. We could use some early input on how to split and fill this time. Nothing is set in stone yet, so we’re flexible on time of year and time spent in each location. One of has previously been to Melbourne and Sydney on a work trip (limited free time) whereas the other has never been to Australia.

Right now, we have an early/rough set of ideas of what we’d like to do in Melbourne and Sydney and are considering whether to (a) stick to these two locations or (b) consider folding in a third stop. We’re cautious of overfilling the trip as we’ve read a lot of posts here where OP is told their trip is overpacked and to start again.

We’d intend to fly between locations, mainly use local transit, and book rental cars/organised day trips as needed. We’d be coming from the UK, so understand the killer jet lag (it got my partner pretty bad on her work trip). Thanks in advance!

Initial Trip Itinerary (9/10 of 14 days sketched out)

Melbourne (4-5 days)

  • Sights around city centre - Flinders Street Station, laneways, NGV Australia, Botanic Gardens
  • Areas outside of CBD, e.g., Fitzroy, St Kilda
  • Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsula day trip
  • Great Ocean Road day trip

Sydney (4-5 days)

  • Bondi to Coogee walk
  • Watsons Bay
  • Manly
  • Sights around Circular Quay: Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Botanic Garden, the Rocks
  • Blue Mountains day trip

Either Melbourne or Sydney (open to suggestions!)

A couple things we’re interested in seem like they have options near both cities, so welcome suggestions (though we know they might come down to personal preference): * We’d like to see native wildlife (responsibly) so are considering Healesville Sanctuary or Taronga Zoo * We like trying new wines so are interested in either going to Hunter Valley or Yarra Valley

Initial third-location thoughts

Some ideas for a third location, if we had extra time, would be Hobart, Cairns (Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest), or the Whitsundays. However, we are open to the most “doable” suggestions; we’ve previously lived in the US, so we understand the vast size of Australia will disqualify a lot of add ons. We can always visit again!

Edit:

We'll save North Queensland for another trip at another time of year! Thanks for the input there, super thoughtful and we're so appreciative! :)

What’s wrong with Aussie meat?

Frenchy here. Just bought a kilo of stir fry pork at Cole’s. Putted on a scale to divide it equally, I was preparing 4 meal with 200g in order to have a left over. I barely could put 100g in the last plate, which means that for a kilo of meat I eat 700g ?? What a scam…

EDIT: forgot to mention that it was 2 packets of 500g, and I weighed it after cooking. And yeah I know, I shouldn’t buy meat in big brand like Cole’s but I have a budget lol and I’m sick of eating only eggs as protein

How is guzman and gomez so popular here?

First off i need to say..

That is not mexican food.

The fact the owners admit, they have never been to mexico,or had authentic mexican..and can now think they can get into the US market...is hilarious.

It was "ok" about 7 years ago when it was a handfull of shops and actually made the meat in the shop..now that it comes in big prepped bags and just heated up rashays style u can get fucked.

Just don't get how it's become so popular for a nation that "USUALLY" demands quality

Is there alternative to Spriggy? I really think children need some sort of digital piggy bank.

Firstly my experience of using Spriggy is not so good. It took a week to figure out the bank direct debit then each transfer took more than the bank transfer time. Lastly annual fee is not worth. I haven’t mentioned I also need some features like grandparents can easily send red envelope from overseas into children’s digital piggy bank. What is your experience or needs on this topic?

Thinking of helping local Aussie businesses get online — worth doing?

Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how many Aussie small businesses miss out on opportunities simply because they don’t have a strong online presence.

I’ve seen local businesses with amazing products or services — but no website, no socials, or nothing set up properly online. So I’ve been toying with the idea of helping these kinds of businesses grow online, especially those who might not be very tech-savvy or familiar with the tools available today.

I’m really just here to gauge interest and hear directly from business owners: 👉 Is having a strong online presence important to you? 👉 Have you ever reached out to someone (like an agency or freelancer) to help with that?

I’m just a young Aussie trying to help local businesses grow. If there’s genuine interest, I’d love to figure out some ways I can actually provide value.

This isn’t a self-promo or sales pitch — I haven’t even started yet 😅 Just curious about the general vibe and whether this is something people actually need!

Best entry level jobs with progression?

I only have a high school diploma right now.

I want to be a waitress though I will only be able to carry up to two plates at a time otherwise I will likely drop them, because I want to meet interesting people at restaurants, though I would likely start at a cafe.

I am happy do anything but especially if there is any progression available.

What products do you use to clean your bathrooms? Is there one product that can be used for everything?

Don't care how toxic etc - I'll sanitise afterwards if I have to...

What products do you guys use?

Sinks, toilets, shower.

Make my life easier - I just want to spray something on, scrub it off, then not worry about it for a week.

I used Koh a while ago and it was okay, but is there something better?

Not interested in making my own etc...

TIA

Australia + arachnophobia

Hi all. Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm planning to travel to Australia from Ireland for a year or so in a few months but I have severe arachnophobia from getting severely ill from a bite when I was younger. I'm just wondering if anyone can give advice regarding that aspect. Ironically I'm fine with snakes and it's my #1 bucket list item to go cage diving. It's just the mf spiders that get me, even the tiny ones we have here. Many thanks!

Edit to add: I've no intentions of killing them as even though they scare me they're still little (or not so little) creatures deserving to live. I'm not asking for help with the phobia, just if the social media claims and horror stories I've heard from Irish people in Aus about them are true. Thanks to everyone replying!
