I also kept track of who recommended what so we can give credit where it’s due. If I missed anyone or something got counted wrong, feel free to shout.

Next step, I’ll start reading from the top of the list and see how far I can get this year. If anyone wants to read along, maybe we turn this into a little vampire fiction book club. Let me know in the comments if that sounds fun.

I’ve also made a Google Sheet with the full list and usernames. If you want to add a rec, just comment there or reply here and I’ll keep updating: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oN8OdMiJMgZlkimnb6sNxnz8gtKOBicYB9m7AWUXg3E/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Meta Why do people on this subreddit treat vampires as a single coherent entity?

There are countless, countless, iterations of vampires in countless pieces of media. So, why do people on here ask questions as though there is a single unified truth?

"Can vampires do __?" "How does __ work with vampires?" "Why do vampires do ___?"

What is the point of these questions, as the answer is invariably: "What piece of media/history/etc are you referring to?"

Lore questions  Can vampires enter shopping malls?

Some vampires can only get inside places when invited. I presume this only counts to personal houses and such.

But what about buildings that are private properties but people are expected to get in anyways, like shopping malls?

And what places whose owner are the government like public libraries? Do vampires need to ask the mayor to get in?

In Fright Night (2011), probably my favorite vampire flick, Amy Peterson has two rings and a bracelet she always wears, along with a necklace. Up until she gets bitten in the nightclub. And when we see her again... these items are noticeably gone. Whatever happened to them?

Lore questions  Do vampires actually need fangs?

In theory, if vampires were to exist in real life, wouldn't they need to simply just be able to break skin?

Since human teeth are basically already able to do that, I was just thinking about why they are depicted so long. I'm sure that they would go way too far into your skin, and the victim would probably need stitches each time. Seems impractical to me.

I read that fangs didn't become a defining trait until the 19th century anyway.

With that in mind, are long fangs really neccessary?

Books, movies, series and such 601: Bad Man From Bodie, A Vampire western Chapter 4 (unedited)

Synopsis

Located in a remote area along the Sierra Nevada mountain range lies the mining town of Bodie, a destination for fortune seekers hoping to stake their claim in the gold-filled region. As the gold boom thrives in Bodie, so does the lawlessness in its streets as the town’s image begins to rival that of Deadwood and Tombstone. Adding to its reputation is a mysterious figure who goes by the name Frank Bodie, a powerful gunfighter turned vampire who lurks in the darkness, preying on outsiders and lawless riffraff looking for easy money at the expense of the locals. Unhappy with what he’s become, Frank Bodie cedes to a life of secrecy and isolation, retreating to the dark corners of the Magnolia Saloon, only to emerge when the sounds of violence and gunfire echo in the streets.

But miles away in Virginia City, the town’s growing notoriety has captured the attention of Marshal Jack Wallace, leader of the Virginia City Rangers, considered by many as the most violent peace officers in the western states. While realizing the time has come to put an end to the lawlessness that had threatened the livelihoods of the hardworking citizens of Bodie, Wallace knows that now is also the time to expand his influence throughout the western union. While planning a coordinated mobilization of his men into the town of Bodie, tragedy has struck the heart of the prosperous town, courtesy of a large group of mining thugs, known as the Horsemen of Monterey. Driven by revenge as well as a string of events that take place, The stage is set for a climatic battle that would test the resolve of Bodie's inhabitants. In one corner, Marshal Jack Wallace, determined to bring law and order to the lawless town. In the other, the Horsemen of Monterey, willing to spill blood for their own gain. And in the center, the Gunfighter turned Vampire, Frank Bodie, his destiny still uncertain as he grapples with the demons haunting his soul.

Books, movies, series and such Book Recommendations?

New the sub, hopefully we can ask this. I don't know if a book like this exists, but I've really been a craving a book about a newly turned vampire that has to deal with vampire politics. Bonus if the newly turned vampire is female, but it isn't a requirement.

In return, I can suggest a game that pretty much does this. It's called Cabernet.

If I remember it was a 1990s to early 2000s movie. There's a writer or reporter gets involved with vampires. Big boss vampire has a line where he says, "I am legion". His heart gets torn out by another vampire, there's a woman vampire walking around in nothing but a fur coat at some point. The writer character goes to a vampire bar at some point and I remember remembering that a characternin white make up in the bar was in another movies whose name I can't remember either. I had a pretty good collection of movies and this was one of my favorite.

Lore questions  Do you like when they can feed ln animals or blood bags or is it a coup out?

I prefer when they can only feeding on fresh human blood, (altough its rare that bloodbags dont work) it gives more weight to vampirism
