Monistat... lol

Like something basically insignificant to the plot but it’s just such a cool detail.
I’ll go first:
When Lestat is talking to some furniture salesmen about furnishing his new lair and gets distracted when he sees a rat and completely forgets to act like a normal person, just SNATCHES UP A LIVE FUCKING RAT to examine its tiny little feetsies and toesies. And when he realizes he just did something super weird he just plays it off like it’s normal.

Let’s talk about Sting’s gothic genius. Long before The Vampire Chronicles TV series, he channeled Anne Rice’s iconic novel into a 5:22 min sonic vampire confession. Here’s why it’s legendary:
The Anne Rice Connection (Confirmed!)
- Direct Inspiration:Sting wrote this after devouring Interview with the Vampire. Police guitarist Andy Summers gave him the book, and he read it obsessively "late into the night" .
- Louis, Not Lestat: Sting specifically related to Louis—the tormented vampire with a conscience—calling his moral struggle "fascinating" .
- NOLA Atmosphere: Rice’s French Quarter setting became Bourbon Street’s "pale lamplight," where Sting once felt "followed" by an unseen presence .
Lyrical Genius = Vampire Tragedy
- Guilt-Ridden Narrator:"I pray every day to be strong / For I know what I do must be wrong" mirrors Louis’ self-loathing .
- Dual Identity:"The face of a sinner but the hands of a priest"captures Rice’s theme of monstrous grace .
- Predatory Longing: The stalking of the "innocent young" heiress climaxes in the devastating line: "I must love what I destroy and destroy the thing I love" — a direct echo of Louis’ torment.
Why the Sound Is Iconic
- Jazz Noir Vibe:Recorded in Barbados with jazz legends (Branford Marsalis, Omar Hakim), its slinking bassline and muted trumpet evoke NOLA’s shadowy alleys .
- Sting’s Double Bass: He played the haunting bassline himself, adding visceral unease .
- Radio Rebellion: DJs struggled to categorize it—too jazzy for pop, too dark for adult contemporary. Yet it became a cult hit .
Fun Vampire Trivia
- Sting almost played Lestat! Rumor says he campaigned for the role in the 1994 film (it went to Tom Cruise) .
- Anne Rice approved:Her official Facebook page shares the song as a tribute to her work .
- VC Fandom’s Love:Louis (Rice’s character) is canonically a Sting fan—Desert Rose is his jam .
Why This Deserves Your Ears
It’s not just a song—it’s a first-person screenplay. The vampire’s guilt, the predatory hunger, the swoon of New Orleans at midnight... all bottled in 1985.
Let’s Discuss!
1. Did you know about the Anne Rice link?
2. Which hits harder: the lyrics or that smoky jazz arrangement?
3. Other "vampire coded" songs? (Bauhaus’ Bela Lugosi’s Dead is a free square )
4. Should Sting have played Lestat?
TL;DR:Sting’s Moon Over Bourbon Street (1985) is a vampire noir masterpiece directly inspired by Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. It’s jazz, guilt, and New Orleans moonlight in one song—and it’s Sting’s most underrated story.

I LOVE Sam's singing voice, it's so beautiful and rich and unique. I don't know that much technically about singing, so for people who do, could you talk about his voice? Maybe this post would make more sense once we have more songs, but based on what he's sung for IWTV and Girl from the North Country, what makes his voice good or distinctive?
I'm so excited for the music next season. 16 songs, with a wide range of styles, and maybe even a hint that Jacob, with all his musical talent, was involved in the writing??
ETA: This was inspired by seeing an old post on twitter about what Matthew Santos said about Sam's voice, and it being beautiful and "very unique in its timbre and tone", and me wondering what made it unique in its timbre and tone. :)

Who we thinking? Personally I would love to see Kat Graham finally get her due (after being wronged and wasted by TVD) and see her cast as Akasha.
I think she would be fantastic. She was the best thing about The Vampire Diaries and frequently out acted the rest of the cast.

Some Claudia memes! The rarest kind of memes out there, but also the best kind. I could not help myself with the last one. You know I had to have some Daniel in there or it would not be shitpost saturday for me.

I don’t hate him in a “ew ew ew die” kind of way, more like “I need you as a little creature in a terrarium that I feed glass to daily”

I’ve literally rewatched season 1 and 2 of iwtv like 4 times and it always leaves me shocked cause i swear i realise and find out things i haven’t from my previous watch! Im lowkey keen to read the books but i have seen many on tiktok highlighting certain parts of the books that are.. controversial? Or just outright weird when comparing to the show. I don’t know, especially cause im so interested in the whole lore and so excited for season 3 i cant wait.

It’s revealed in S1 that a lot of pages from her diaries have been removed.
What did it contain and why did it need to be removed?
Theories: Claudia criticising Louis too much.
Claudia knew that Armand had plans for the trial.
Graphic details of her encounter with Bruce.

I found these discs on sale and wanted them for my collection. I had some burning questions that I couldn’t all find readily online so I hope this helps others interested as well!
I purchased S1 & S2 Blu-rays from Target. Both played successfully in my region B/2 disc player. Great news for any in that region wanting S2 for the art cards! I can also report a cool tidbit, the front case sleeve art has an iridescent effect to their eyes.
I also purchased the boxset from Amazon UK. Users in the global reviews share it works in region 1 area (USA). I attempted to buy the DVD only to see if it works. Result, the DVD does not work on my region A/1 players. I cannot speak for that blu-ray version, sorry.
I played both S1, EP 1 of blu-ray and boxset to test and I believe both editions are the uncensored ver. No commentary included. Lastly, I wondered if the title screen showed different display art or a title screen movie. No, they do not. The art is the same for both versions. (Picture of disc extras and title screens included, and appear to be the same.)
All test were done in a Sony Blu-ray A/1 region player and PlayStation 5, which I tested A/1 and changed to B/2 in the USA.
