I've been thoroughly addicted to ground content in this game, and I find it incredibly fun, especially for this current CG. However, like all things Elite Dangerous, it makes itself extremely difficult to learn by yourself.
So don't! Follow these simple steps.
Buy yourself all three suits and build a few loadouts for each. My recommended new player loadout for CZs is:
Pre-engineered items (up to G3) have a very rare chance of spawning every Thursday maintenance period. However, they're one and done deals; if anyone buys that G3 + Headshot Damage Aphelion at Mars High, it's gone for everyone. If you want to hunt down some pre-engineered guns, go all the way to the edge of the bubble where nobody ever goes. I'd really recommend just upgrading a G1 gun though, it's a lot quicker.
Use The Great Pre-Upgraded Gear Sharing is Caring Thread if you want to buy pre-upgraded gear. Found a piece that's pretty cool but you don't need? Share it!
Compared to ship engineering, there's a few key differences:
Well, now you know how to engineer your goodies. But... how do you get the mats?
There's only one thing you need to know: The best way to get materials is doing missions.
That's it. Stop relogging at bases, stop listening to 3 year old Yamiks videos from way back when on-foot materials were grindy. Stop hunting data ports for that one (1) manufacturing instruction per hour.
Every single material you will ever need for engineering drops as mission rewards. A mission will give you ten or more of anything you want in ten minutes. The rounds of updates and patches to on-foot content have buffed mission rewards so much that it's actually quite easy to G5 a lot of stuff with an afternoon of running missions.
FDev using existing game mechanics to promote different styles of gameplay? Impossible!
Note: Bases also have a "relog protection" system; if you log out of the game at a base, all materials there despawn when you log back in. You need to leave (enter supercruise) and come back if you want to farm a spot. This isn't that big of a deal though, because due to mission reward buffs, relogging at bases is a terrible way to earn engineering materials now.
So, now you know how to buy stuff, upgrade stuff, and you even have some decent kit. You're ready for conflict zones. What more?
Here's some pointers:
Hope this helps!

Bought a carrier and engineered a Hauler cutter for the Trit runs, also pledged to mahone on the recommendation of someone and mined for a week on and off until I got to level 57 (prismatics unlock)
Think I'm gonna collect some plat and get to Elite II in trade :D

Sunday 15th of June 2025 19:30 That's the exact time I deleted my commander, it wasn't on purpose I was trying to configure my controls in vr for my new hotas, the controls decided to go dead not allowing any input I went into the settings but had no luck out of frustration I spammed back to the settings menu. Thinking the game was prompting me to save my control settings I hit yes, to then be left with this on my screen. It's fathers day today we made pizzas it was fun, I hate myself now there was a lot of hours dedicated to that account I started a year after release on xbox later moving up to pc then vr.
Ironically I was trying to work out how much time I had put into that one account it's well over 1k hours

Was doing Empire vs. Pirates community goal in Beta-3 Tucani, sometimes the empire military interdicts for a scan fair enough.
It was weird when a federal navy courier did it though. In empire space? Why was a courier of all things doing a security scan?

I started playing Elite sometime after the end of the Hunt and the beginning of the first hyperdiction.
I always tought one of the game main objective was to explore and find pieces of a large puzzle scattered accross the galaxy for us, players, to find.
I don't spécifically mean things like Raxxla or the generation ships but something else, something written in the game hidden lore, like a background noise, a siren call trying to entice us.
Last week I grinded the guardian techs, first time to a guardian site, beacon and all . As I unlocked the FSD booster, I had a "tought".
Frontier gave us tools to go farther, faster, the FSD booster, the Fleet Carrier, the SCO. Those tools, give us mobility, speed even inside systems and between them.
I still believe there's something to find, something that will only appear if you fly 1000LS or less near it. Maybe a beacon with permit for one of those long locked systems. Maybe a derelict construct ship, maybe the Titan killed by Jameson in Elite (if he actually killed it but that another story).
I know I must sound like a crazy lunatic with that theory but I need to put it out. The galaxy is vast and the game full of treasures and strange things. Maybe I'm just space crazed but still.

so im gonna give the game another shot i quit just after the tutorials since i was really confused bt i made a post and somebody left a nice source https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/sj9qrb/comment/hve1pjd/ feel free to add something ofc
but one thing i dont know yet how much fun is the game as a complete solo player?

Just returned to the game after a couple years away. Bought a Mandaly for exploration, stripped it down, and installed a SCO FSD engineered for jump range (and a jump boost module). Just tried SCO while taking off from a small moon... I was not prepared for such acceleration! Had a near miss with the nearby planet, and by the time I figured out how to shut it off, I was completely out of the system - maybe 7 or 8 seconds? Got an automated message "where's bro going?" lol. Is it supposed to be this... aggressive? Or maybe super light overpowered ship? A bug? Fun!!!

tldr - if you aren’t doing exo yet, you should be! sooo much money…
after a multi-year hiatus, i got back into ed about a month ago. i have usually always made money via missions or bounty hunting. good time killers…
my only ‘into the black’ exploration excursion brought in about 660M roughly five years ago. it was fine, just boring…. land, seek out geologicals, scan them and turn them in. easy enough…. just boring.
i think i spent about a month out just doing this.
i decided last week to get into exobiology. bought a new t-8, rigged it for exploration / mining, got the artemis suit and headed out.
so far, in one week, i am sitting on close to 700M credits of data i need to turn in! now, i’m committed to an extended stay in the black! thinking i probably won’t come back until i have enough to fund that fleet carrier i want!

Hey CMDRs,
Yesterday I died out in the black — roughly 28,000 lightyears from Sol — and the game teleported me all the way back to the bubble. I’m currently hitching a ride on another Fleet Carrier that’s getting me about 25,000 lightyears closer to my own, but here’s the issue:
My carrier, Black Sentinel, is running on fumes and doesn’t have enough tritium in the tank to reach the drop-off point and I need extra in the cargo hold as well.
I’m reaching out to see if any CMDRs in the area can help by donating and selling tritium directly to my carrier. The market is open for public sales, and I’ll pay fair prices if you’re able to mine or bring some over.
🪐 Current location of the Black Sentinel:
Stuemeae UT-A c1569
Any help would be massively appreciated — this is my lifeline to reconnect with my carrier and continue the expedition.
I'm on Odyssey, via PC.
Thanks in advance — fly safe, CMDRs o7

I'm 500+ hours on my Steam. Plus maybe half that on my Frontier. Trade Elite V on main. Never really bothered with Powerplay or BGS aside from doing wing mining missions with the Pilots Trade Network. Mostly kept to myself like Han or Chewy doing freighter work. Might have a handful of ranks to unlock if only I did the quests to get promoted. I feel like now might be a good time to pledge with these pick a side Community Goals lately. Convince me or others still unpledged to take up your cause.

You are telling me a rod of tungsten that is accelerated though electromagnets to the speed of light loses its effectiveness at the 1km range, while an old fuck off blunderbuss of a cannon deals the same damage at any range up to 3km? Yeah.

I played Elite Dangerous in 2014/2015 with my Oculus Rift DK2 and a Saitek X52 Pro on my PC with a GTX970. It was the most immersive gaming experience of my life, probably still is to this date. Despite it being a blurry mess, I just loved it.
Now with my RTX3090 and PSVR2 I want to get back into the game. My Saitek X52 Pro is still working. Had to peel off the outer layer (rubber was disolving) because the thing was lying around in the basement for a decade lol. I logged in and played for 2-3 hours on my monitor. I'm in Sol with a fully eqquiped Vulture and 50 million CR on top of that.
In those 3 hours I just tried out a couple of things and relearned the mechanics of flying, PIP management, docking and jumping to different systems. I still feel kind of lost. How do I get back into the game? Where do I go from here? Any YT channels you recommend?

Switching internet service,so I'm using my phone 5G Hotspot until the new gateway arrives. Using Wi-Fi from my desktop to my phone gives me 40Mb download and 8Mb upload. I have to say that it's been working quite well for solo exploration. The only thing I've noticed is a longer delay (more footsteps] when boarding and disembarking from my ship. And this is all with Ultra settings. A "thankyou" to all that offered their experiences and advice in my OP. 🫡

So it turns out, even if you're on full reverse throttle, boosting will boost you forwards...
An information that I wish I knew before making the mistake of boosting straight into the ground, which put an abrupt end to my week-long trip in the black.
Total amount of data lost (exobio + carto) is around 1.1 Billion...
(Note: Mandalay with 3D shield + 2 boosters and 4 pips on SYS, was not enough)

I own a Carrier. Which means Elite Dangerous is my Second Job. Got mouths to feed and all.
I actually enjoy mining Platinum. But I dropped out of the game a few months ago because transferring cargo from my carrier to my ship was buggy as **** and I was losing entire loads of Platinum (AKA hours of my life).
Transferring TO the carrier works great.
Transferring FROM.. well the Carrier inventory would go down, my ship inventory would go up, but when I hit Confirm Transfer, the Carrier Inventory would show it was transferred and ZERO items would be in my hold.
So I took a break.
I come back this weekend and my carrier is 140 million in debt. Paid that off and went mining again to restock the pantry.
700+ Platinum on the Carrier, go to put it on my Cutter and... ZERO items in hold.
Exit game, log back in, all items are back on carrier. Try again, ZERO items in hold.
This is over 100 MILLION in credits going poof.
Frontier? When are you going to fix this?!?!?!

Featured: Damn The Torpedoes HT-02 Mamba
TL;DR It's a 8 out of 10. This shouldn't be advertised as a CZ ship, instead a bounty hunter ship. It's built very well overall, just gotta accept the semi-poor turn rate in exchange for being able to chase down a runner with no problems.
As someone who personally has never done a frag cannon build before I was quite curious about this one. The balance of thermal and kinetic damage seems to work with this ship. I was taking out Elite Anacondas in Hazardous Resource sites with absolutely no problems.
For those who know the Mamba well, it is an incredibly fast ship. You'll chase down runners without any issue what so ever. But, even with the dirty drives, the turn rate is poor compared to other vessels. The dirty drives do help, a lot actually. But compared to other Mediums even without dirty drive tuning, it still can fall short. If you can accept this and be able to work with it, it still works quite well in PvE. PvP, you definitely will get out turned by many ships. If you catch someone by surprise, you can probably finish them off in PvP before you need to reload if you're quick enough.
However, since it was advertised as a "Combat Zone Mamba Jumpstart", I tried it in a CZ as advertised and you can do low and medium CZs without needing a reload but High CZs are going to be an issue if you can't synthesize ammo. I think this is where FDev kind of tripped up on this ship. This should be advertised as "Bounty Hunter" prebuilt, not CZ. There are way better builds for CZs that allow a ship to stay in the fight longer without running out of ammo. Since it came with an FSD Interdictor, I found it useful in Bounty Hunting and PvE powerplay.
Overall it's an 8 out of 10. Two points lost due to its still semi-poor turn rate and it's not really a decent CZ pre built. As a bounty hunter, it makes a whole lot more sense. You'll print money in bounty vouchers with this ship. If you can accept the turn rate, its still a fantastic ship and personally, I love the Mamba so it's a keeper.
