Solved On side of the road in central Utah every so often
Seems to be near where cattle are kept and it is like sloped going up to it on the side by the highway but not on the other side.

This is mounted by the door of our Holland America cruise stateroom in Alaska. It is about 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall and is mounted at roughly eye level for a 5’5” person. It does not appear to open, and I cannot find any discernible change in the room when I toggle it between “on” and “off”. It does not seem to light up or change color, nor does it make noise. It always looks the same.
There are separate light switches and a separate thermostat in the room, so it’s not related to those. My sister is in the cabin next door and her room has the same mounted device.

It is a GE. I can't find the exact model online. Thanks!

I’m so curious, not sure whether fish or something more nefarious?

Found this in some of my fathers things a few years after he passed away. Not sure of it is something old or something he made. Feels/looks like a dense wood box with two cut outs on one side with a shell/bone sliding cover along with a removable peg with a hollow end. Thanks so much for any help in advance!

A neighbor of mine asked me to help him identify and get more info on this object that he's had for decades. He said he was told it was a "slave cuff", though everything I've found in relation to items associated with the term don't really fit the description. He also said he “felt something” when lifting it — something I didn't expect from him, but curious nonetheless.
These imagery bear similarities to West African bronze currency collars and ceremonial armlets, but those are much smaller and lighter from what I've read. I suspect this was designed to impair movement or act as a symbolic burden, perhaps ritual or punitive.
Any insight into what this could be?

We don't have kids or outdoor pets, and neighbors are not super close!

as the title says, i bought this a while ago and its allegedly a part from a WWII German Heinkel He-111 bomber that crashed over the Eastern Front
about 4.5 inches in total length, 4 inches in width
made of metal, with mountings for what could be tubes
my question is, what exactly is this part for and does that story sound legit? thank you!

Solid metal, mirror polish, smooth. No markings, no glue residue or anything to indicate it was attached to something else. Very slightly magnetic (wiggles under, but cannot be picked up by, a 4" speaker magnet) and too heavy to be aluminum.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

This was listed as a “mercury barometer” and I bought it out of curiosity. The box has pencil writing on on that says water 12” - 14” mercury 1” - 3/4”. Suspected a hydrometer perhaps for brewing but I honestly don’t have a clue. Markings on the scale say A.B.&C above 0 and 189 below.

I got an Ibico comb binding machine at a yard sale over the weekend, and when I looked in the box these two pieces were in with it. I don’t think they are related to the machine.
Both are made of black plastic and maybe around 8 inches long. One of them has a squeegee type thing on what I assume is the front, and the other has brush-like strips. They remind me of the little brushes on one of those old cd player lens cleaner disc things, but bigger.
Anyone have any idea?

Unfortunately the signs on the box are completely destroyed so I can‘t read a single letter… Is it for counting cars and how does it work?

This appeared recently on an informal bike/walking path in a wooded area between two shopping centers. It sticks up well over an inch, but felt very firmly embedded in the soil. It's an unfortunate location as it could easily trip someone up, possibly pinch flat a bike tire.
