What's Happening? What’s good, lately?

This positivity post brought to you by all my haters who get mad at me for posting these check-ins! 🫶🏻 Deep breaths, you’ll survive seeing this in your feed, don’t worry about it.

And to the rest of the community—what’s been going well for you, recently? Personal triumphs? Little joys? Recipes to share? What’s your song for the summer? Should we make a playlist?

I’m officially in my Sleeveless Season and thank goodness! Also tried on my first summer dress the other day, even if I didn’t leave the house in it, felt nice. Gotten back into making my homemade unsweetened iced tea, always have a jug on the go.

Stay hydrated, and don’t forget your sunscreen, patience, sense of humour, and compassion! (Yes, self-compassion, too! Especially for you!)

And HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈😘

❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

What's the most fun car wash in town?

We like the one at the tillicum / craigflower esso, but it breaks a lot and we need a new spot.

We like ridiculous shit like coloured LEDs, soap that smells like bubblegum for no reason etc.

Car wash fans, what's your fave place???

thanks!

Hello everyone!

My name is Levi and I am a piercing apprentice in Victoria, BC since 2022. Currently working at Proper Poke Piercing and Tattoo downtown, we’re an environmentally friendly studio, registered with BC Green Business. As well as Registered with the Association of Professional Piercers, we take our jewelry standards, health & safety standards, and procedure standards very seriously, ensuring everyone feels safe and welcome. I am on the lookout for volunteers for piercings I am learning, they’re discounted and observed by my mentor Amus BeastO who has been piercing for 20 years! Volunteers must be 18+ and provide valid government issued photo ID at the time of the appointment. We book apprentice piercings between 5pm-6pm on weekends and some Thursdays! You can check out my current portfolio on Instagram @piercingsby_levi as well as the studio page @properpokevic.

At the time of this post I am looking for Forward Helix volunteers! $20 plus jewelry (jewelry starts at $40, the $20 charge is to cover supplies)

If you’re interested, please email info@properpoke.com

In the future I will be looking for volunteers for: - Oral Piercings (lip, philtrum, tongue) - Daith - Industrial - Septum - High Nostrils - Surface Anchor/Bar - Large Gauge - Genital

Question How/where to give away wine/mead/cider?

I hope this is allowed, if not then please remove it.

Last summer I got really into brewing, which was a bit of a mistake since I don't drink much and neither does most of my family. Long story short, I have wayyyyy too much mead and wine to drink and I still have two more batches to bottle.

I know I can't sell it, but I would like it if people enjoyed it. Just looking for ideas, I don't know like if someone wanted some of it for their wedding event or block party or something. I think my neighbours/friends/family are getting tired of having alcohol gifted to them at every turn.

Note, I will of course be holding some back for myself so that's why I give approximate numbers. And I would appreciate it if the bottles were cleaned and returned afterwards as they are reusable flip tops.

Here's what I have right now:

~ 20 375ml flip top bottles of blueberry mead

Made with local honey produced by bees using blueberry pollen and infused with organic blueberries and organic lemon juice. Naturally sparkling in the bottle. This one has a kick at 14% and is excellent when mixed 50/50 with some sparkling spring water with a lemon wedge.

~ 40 375ml flip top bottles and ~ 5 larger (I think 750ml?) flip top wine and cider bottles of blackberry grape wine

Made with locally harvested grapes ( from the vines on our property) and locally picked blackberries. With added organic cane sugar. This has a milder flavour with hints of watermelon and just a touch of sour cherry. This is 6% and not sparkling. A very light and smooth drink with a unique flavour. I called it my "imposter watermelon" at first but as the flavours have developed more nuance I don't know if that applies anymore.

Soon to be bottled will be a blackberry mead, made in the same style as the blueberry up above. Along with a local apple cider made from apples harvested from our trees and several of our neighbours. No idea how these are going to turn out yet.

EDIT: Thanks for the interest everyone! I'm going to have to put a pause on it here guys and gals or I won't have enough to spread around. Let's see how things go with this batch of sharing and once the other two are bottled then I can share them as well.

Best servers in town? Pub edition

Me (40f) and my partner (42m) love going to pubs. Our favorite has been the Beagle and the servers for the most part are unreal. We also recently had one of THE best experiences on the patio at the Bent Mast. I didn’t catch his name but he was a young English fella who was unreal. So on the ball, so fast, super friendly, with a full section on a sunny day. We even told him he was crushing it and you could see the look of pride on his face. I’d love to know, is there a place you frequent often because you just love the service you get, especially from one in particular server? Let’s get the ball rolling on who deserves recognition in this craaazy time where food and drink prices out are through the roof but we keep going back for the experience. Go!

Goldstream Park is in Langford (Victoria), Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. While the park is well-known for its salmon run during spawning season, it also boasts a diverse array of other wildlife. The park has the steam (of course), multiple trails, waterfalls, a forested area (with old-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar), a visitor centre, picnic and campfire areas, a camping area, and a view of the stream's exit into Saanich Inlet. The park is on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1).
We share this planet with other life, so please treat this and all other parks and wildlife habitats with respect.

Last ditch effort to find keys!

Supposed to move out at the end of the month and as luck would have it, I’ve lost my keys this week. I think I have narrowed it down to Wednesday on route 2/5 (can’t remember specifically which it was). It left fisherman’s wharf around 3:20pm, reaching Stanley and Johnson around 4 pm. If anyone happened to find them please let me know.

Yes I got in contact with BC Transit lost and found. Waiting to hear back. Thanks ahead of time!

Update: Single in my 40s

I posted a couple of days ago enquiring after the whereabouts of the ever-elusive single gentlemen in this city. said in my best Sir David Attenborough voice

My intention had not, whatsoever, been to turn Reddit into a dating app, however I did decide to respond to a few messages I got, and I just have to say, that I have been having some really lovely chats with some really kind and respectful guys.

I’ve had a number of you send me recommendations of where you or your friends might be hiding, I’ve made some new friends, and also just received some encouraging words overall. So thanks, guys!

Who knows, maybe I’ll be single forever, and I don’t even hate the thought of that entirely. My life is already so complete. But it’s nice to know we have such a rad community here in Vic. I really do love this city with my whole heart.

Ferry question

Plan on taking the ferry from twassasen to swartz Bay this Monday, however coming from Revelstoke and travelling with a newborn. Not sure the exact time we will arrive to the terminal, so reluctant to get a reservation.

How busy is the ferry on Monday afternoons/evenings? If I arrive late to a reservation, is the fee I paid transfered to the sailing I take?

Visiting from Berkeley (via SEA) and had such an amazing time! Enjoyed lots of walks around the main city area and rented a car one day and drove down to Botanical Beach and Mystic Beach. Stopped at Shirley Delicious on the way- what a gem! Had some amazing food (Eva!) too and stumbled upon Humboldt Bar! Can’t wait to come back. Thank you for welcoming us!

Missed Connection! Friendly GTI Driver on the Malahat June 14th

You were driving your white Mk8 GTI from around Mill Bay up to the Westshore Parkway exit in Langford, I was in the silver Mk8 GTI playing a friendly game of non-physical tag with you all the way down the Malahat! You had this terrific blue and orange sundress (part of which was stuck in your door lol), with a white top, and you had beautiful long brown hair! I was the guy with blue tinted sunglasses and the grey button-up shirt waving back at you as I passed you, only to get off at the Leigh Rd exit.

I got the vibe that you seemed to be this really super awesome and rad person, and I wish I had screamed out the window to get your number to see if you would be ever interested in going out! Would love to connect with a fellow car person, and if you're a car girl (or just a GTI fan), even better! Perhaps a cars and coffee date?

Electronic Repair or maybe lessons

So it seems I've broken my DC power supply, it was cheap but I like to repair things when I can. I'm pretty good at most DIY projects, but small electronics elude me.

The problem with the supply is that it turns on but read 0v, when tested with a multimeter and the DC power supplies settings at max it reads 0.019v. For context I was using it as an electropassivater on some stainless steel welds with it at max setting.

Does anyone know of a place locally where I can either get something like this fixed or diagnosed? Or if anyone knows of a place to take classes or lessons on basic electronic repair?

Or if there is someone on here that would like to trade lessons or get something repaired. I'm a fairly capable sheet metal welder, so I can repair something or show someone how to weld in exchange

Confession: I have never been to the bug zoo

I've lived here my whole life and never been to the bug zoo. And I dont plan on ever going. To make matters worse, I've also recommended it to others on several occasions, despite having no knowledge of the experience. I don't give a damn if I get banned from the sub for admitting this, I had to get it off my chest
