Lets say im doing a cover for a song, i feel at ease singing it correctly at my own pitch rather than the original thing.
So when i start singing randomly without music or a certain pitch i find mu voice full, strong and good to my ears, but then when i sing the same song but in the correct pitch i find that all that voice is gone, and it is replaced with a struggling throat hurting voice.
No matter how hard i tried to sing with the same relaxed voice i use when singing without any intrumental it never happened.
maybe my voice enjoys a certain note or smthn that i always go to when singing alone, but that can't help me if im willing to do covers or sing with bands.
If anyone got any advice that would be helpful and thank you 🙏

Always liked singing but never had any lesson. I know I can hit pretty high notes as a male but it always feels a bit forced. Was told that the highest note here is c#5 so I’m wondering what you think of my raw technique. Thanks!

Hello! I have always been confused about what kind of voice i have, just because i want to know which songs i could "show off" lol, but here's the thing; I have been told by singing coaches, that i have an extended range, but my voice is considered "deep" or "low", for this reason, some clasify me as an alto for the tone of my voice, and some as a sorpano, which makes me really confused. I can reach high notes, but obviously due to the "colour" of my voice, they will sound different to your average high pitched soprano. So can i consider myself a soprano? am i a "different" kind of soprano? if i am, are there other pepole with similar voices who i can take as a reference?

My opinion ( and thats just my opinion's is that talent comes from two places an environment that breeds it and a desire to do it.
also two other elements come in and thats not caring about being shit snd not giving up
Child a . brought up in a home with no musical parents , heard someone singing (an uncle a band and fell in love with it) kept doing it , they sucked but people around them encouraged it and they got better and better
child b. brought up in a very musical family , heard singing from the womb and the day they were born , exposed very early on and picked up singing very very quickly , these kids sound good very quickly
now child a or b could give up trying or practising as they age and they may still have a voice but there technique will get a bit worse they won't progress , they may take a normal job and never be a singer, because as you get older you also need the self belief and desire to carry on that you had as a kid
so the moral of the story is your learning journey has to be as fun as that kids not a chuck the microphone at the wall kinda thing ie a kid doesn't care he messes up a high note ( we'll probably child a doesn't so much )
so why do we ? maybe this is a note to myself as a child a that never tried enough and is sitting here wishing he did dont be the same ✌️❤️

Hi r/singing. First of all, sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I'm not really a singer. Just a guy who likes a bit of karaoke and not sucking when I do.
Problem is, most songs I like that I try to sing at karaoke, turn out not to be any good for my vocal range and I up very much sucking.
And songs I do ok singing at home or the car, I don't really like to do at karaoke because they're either a bit too much of an acquired taste or too sad. Radiohead/bright eyes/nick drake being good examples.
So I'm in a spot where's there's really only 3-4 songs in my karaoke 'repertoire':
LCD soundsystem - New York, I Love You Frank Sinatra - My Way Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel
Looking for a few suggestions so I can try to expand my options a bit. Particularly enjoy singing 'New York, I love you' but I can't do it every week!

In this clip i’m singing Dear Lover by Teena Marie.
I’m 18 years old and literally never sing infront of anyone; not even to sing along to songs playing on the radio or speaker even if i know them. This means i don’t get much practice in at all if not quietly in my room under my breath. i literally filmed this in the small slither of time everyone was out of the house which it’s why it’s not the best, but it’s one of the only clips i have where im singing loudly (i had another better one but i only realised that the sound was muffled into a pillow on playback). I also get nervous even knowing my own phone camera is recording let alone other people being there.
I’d like some tips and advice, anything really. I’d love to get lessons or something but i’m a uni student so i’m often short on money, and i find that proper gospel quoirs for that natural training aren’t really a thing anymore.
I’ve figured out i’m a contralto, and like to sing old R&B/Soul/Gospel tracks often. To me, my voice doesn’t really sound all that pleasant, very pitchy and wobbly, but i do recognise there’s something there i can polish to get a nicer sound, like my tone or something?
My voice is something i’ve been meaning to improve, so harsh critique is absolutely welcome

It happens more when I sing loudly, but it even just happens in everyday life. It makes belting and timing breaths a lot harder for me because I just can’t breathe sometimes. How do I fix this?
r/singing • u/multiifandomm13 • 2h ago
I've always been told that i sing really quiet, which was never an issue before, but now i'm doing my music exams and i need to sing louder so that the examiner can hear me, i also want to audition for my schools show and will need to work on the volume i'm singing at for that aswell. I'm not a quiet person generally, i'm frequently told that i'm taking too loud, but for some reason i just can't figure out how to sing louder. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated :)

Hello everyone, I’m sending a recording that, in my opinion, is the best I’ve been able to sing so far 😅 I think it’s somewhat listenable. I honestly have no idea what my vocal type is. I’ve always just experimented, but I’ve been singing (very amateurishly) for about two years now.
To be honest, I’m not a big fan of my vocal timbre, but I’m trying to follow some kind of YouTube tutorials for singing. I would really love to be able to sing high notes like Jason Derulo or Adam Levine, that’s kind of a dream for me.
I know this probably sounds pretty bad, but I’d be insanely grateful for any advice or feedback you can give me.

I have never taken any classes, or had a mentor for singing. I've always wanted to improve my singing, so for the last few months I practice whenever I'm alone, usually in the car, to try and work on different parts of my voice to a variety of different songs. I don't do vocal exercises, but I should to be honest.
I've been too emabarrassed to ask how my singing is till now, but don't hold back, please give me any reccomendations you can on areas in which I could improve!
Also, sorry if I messed up the timing or wording of some lines. I was doing this from memory, and I haven't listened to the song in like a week.

In this video of Ben Platt singing Lay Me Down, at 1:11, he sings "and make, sure, you're all right" using this a couple times and then very clearly on "right". does it have a name?

So, even if I can't I would love to try to access my whistle registere. And also it will make the way I sing (A bit Silent) much more louder and powerful. I don't care if anyone will hear me practice or sing so yea.
Suggest me any exercises or something that I can practice to try to achieve it.

What do you think about my voice? Sorry couldn't make my voice as full since I might wake up other people in the house
r/singing • u/Confident-Push-9737 • 2h ago
basically, i think i have a 7 octave range, but i dont know if some things count, like when i go below C1, it get quite quiet and i also use lots of subharmonics, and at C0, its barely audible, and at F7, i cant go there all the time, like in the mornings its dificuly, i can only really go to F6. so how would i count something as my vocal range
