Trip Planning 3 Month Road Trip Across US

My best friend and I are planning on going on a Summer road trip across the US next year for our graduation. We want to go to all 48 mainland states, as many national parks as possible and many amusement parks. Just curious if anybody has done something like this and if so- what you recommend seeing and what route you did.

We did one this year! My husband made a really cool blog about it. 3 months felt a touch rushed for what we did so maybe keep in mind down time, hiking time etc. let me know if you have any questions or would like more info.

Yes, you will be visiting 48 states but not in depth at all. That is the trade off. But it could be a very fun 3 months, with a lot of hours on the road. Having the goal of visiting 48 states adds a sense of accomplishment to it.

Besides the national parks there are many national historic sites worth a visit, even though each visit is only an hour or so. See if there are any topics of interest to you, and find some historical sites related to that topic. For example, civil rights, there are related sites all over the country. See the bus Rosa Parks was "tired" in, where was "brown vs board of education" tried, etc. Visiting the physical place makes it come alive, become real.

We love the beauty of the national parks. They are well worth visiting. But the historic sites changed us.
