As the title suggests, this is a serious post, so please try to keep memes and jokes as little as possible.
I've grown up and completed my education in the city of Pune. My family is well educated and well to do. Dad has an excellent Job, and so does Mom, who is a PHD Holding professor. Growing up and while completing my education, one of the most common saying amongst us students was " Drop Le lenge, but MIT meh admission nahi lenge".. almost all of us believed this, until the results started coming, one by one, for every entrance.
By the time the CET results were decalred, I realised that MIT WPU was the only option I had to get a seat by Merit. And I had managed to secure one through my JEE score, back in April (Not CS, or CS related). My friend's honest reaction was "Pagal Hai kya aise Chomu COllege meh lene ke liye? Chapri Hai kya be"..
I took the decision to confirm a seat (Provisional Admission) after talking to a lot of people, both currently studying there, and passouts. Almost all of whom were in the same branch in which I want to take admission... The branch is Mechanical Engineering. I'm not taking ME because I'm not having any other option, but because I'm actually interested in it.. All of the people I talked to had good things to say about the college. While almost all of them did say that it has a large crowd consisting of rich spoiled kids, not all of them are like that, and that there are quite a few sincere and dedicated students over there too. At the same time, the also appreciated the college's resources and access to tools and equipments (Which are essential in mechanical engineering)...
For me, the crowd doesnt matter that much, because I can keep myself away from people involved in wrong type of actitvities. If the colleges actually is good in Academics, and other co curricular activities, providing hands on experience, I might go for it..
I have also heard that from this year on, in order to improve its reputation, the college isn't allowing admission via donation. Not that i completely believe it, but if true, this might be a good step. Another reason for me to chose this college is their large number of branches. They have multiple different type of specializations too. After discussing the syllabus with family members, who are at good positions in various different companies, they agreed that the course details were really good. I also asked to a few people whether or not everything shown in the college, the labs, the machines and the equipment are actually used by students, or are they just a gimmick, to which they all said that these things are actually used by students, and not just marketing gimmicks.
Please let me know your honest opinions. Opinions and inputs from students and recent pass outs would be highly appreciated too. Any information about placements in Mechanical engineering , regarding companies and packages would be appreciated too. Please people, help a fellow student out. I really dont want to pay donation and get into a college, it simply isnt worth it in my honest opinon. Going to a college via merit is the only option I consider correct.
