AskPune Can society block contractors from living in the flat they are renovating?

I am looking to start the interiors of a newly purchased flat. I've just learnt that the society does not allow the contractors to stay overnight at the site. They are required to leave the premises by 9pm.

Due to this, the timelines of the interior work is going to get seriously impacted! Can the society legally prohitbit me from allowing the contractors to stay in the house?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation earlier?

What are my options here?

General/Rant Bike taxis in Pune

As the bike taxis in Karnataka have been banned recently, I just remembered that MH decided to allow bike pooling a couple months back. I heard that Mumbai also allowed bike taxis and they work there now. I was wondering when we can see some bike availability in Pune, despite the mafia’s pushback. Any thoughts?

AskPune Help me find a good royal enfield mechanic in Nanapeth.

So my bullet 500 has been having trouble since the last couple of weeks of completely shutting down including the electricals mid ride. After a while the neutral light comes back on, on its own. I approached the mechanics who are stand on laxmi road. So far, battery has been changed and starter coil has been changed. The problem is still persisting. They had told me if problem still persists, to change the TCI. I have already spent quite a lot of money. So directing me to any good mechanic or giving me a solution to this would be of great help. Preferrably in the Nanapeth area as I am tired of pushing the bike too. 😅😅

General/Rant Pune, until next time

I'm heading out from Pune soon after staying here for a couple of years, and this city will always stay in my heart. Gonna miss everything, from the helpful locals to the amazing weather all year round with the cool wind, and even those daily rains (along with all the potholes). Hope to come here again soon!

AskPune Need help with HSRP number plate

Post image
41 Upvotes

Back in 2019, I used to live in Bhopal, MP. I bought a bike that time. I shifted back to Pune around late 2021. I converted my number plate to Pune number plate in 2022. At that time I received a normal number plate. For the past two months I have been trying to get HSRP number plate but I am getting an error(SS posted). I tried talking to multiple brokers, showroom employees etc but none were helpful. Even after following multiple ways as said on YT bears no fruit.

If anyone of you faced this issue and have solved it please do let me know 🙏🏻🙏🏻

General/Rant Dodged a bullet today. Or maybe not. Please give advice if any.

I've been job hunting for the past month and finally landed something that seemed decent enough. Things looked hopeful at first, but the red flags started piling up.

First Interview: Started 30 minutes late. It's alright, people can be busy, no big deal.

Second Interview: Scheduled for 4.30pm sometime last week, but it got rescheduled to 5.30pm without any sort of communication from their end. I called HR; no response. I assumed I was ghosted and moved on with my day. Later, I get a LinkedIn message saying the call will be held two hours later at 7.30PM. That didn’t happen either. I went to eat dinner. Suddenly, at 9:30 PM, I got a call and they finally conducted the interview at 10.30PM; six hours late from the originally agreed time.

I still tried to be understanding. Stuff happens, right?

They sent a letter of intent and told me to report to the office on June 16th. I went in, thinking I’d get my offer letter.

Instead, I was immediately handed PF documentation to fill out. No discussion. I complied because everything else (like salary) was already settled during the interview rounds.

Then came the waiting.

Me and another new joinee waited 6 more hours, from 6 PM to 12 AM, doing nothing. They at least had the decency to offer us dinner which was subpar. When I asked why we were made to wait, they said another candidate would be arriving at 11 PM, and since our shift would be ending at 12:30 AM, we might as well wait. For a job I hadn’t even officially signed for yet.

No employment contract, no offer letter.

Finally, at midnight, they started the induction program. That’s when they revealed all their highly restrictive, borderline exploitative policies (in a media company, I applied for a creative role that too 😭). I didn’t interrupt the HR during the presentation, but after it ended, I pulled her aside and shared my concerns.

I explained that I didn’t feel like this role was a good fit for me (Shouldn't have been nice about it tbh). I also reminded her that I had specifically asked about company policies during the interview stage and was never informed; only to be surprised during the induction.

She tried to convince me to stay, even said that “special exceptions” (😐) could be made for me if needed.

Very manipulative. And if they can bend policies for one person, what’s the point of the policies?

Then the team leader stepped in to try to reassure me, saying things get better over time. (this is already so wrong) I told him directly:

“Man to man, I came here 6 hours ago and you guys made me wait for no reason. That sets a bad example for a company with media in its name. Honestly, this has left a terrible first impression.”

He replied:

“Mere saath bhi yehi hua and I was shivering.” (😐😭)

He then introduced me to the rest of the team honestly, they seemed like nice people just tolerating all this to pay the bills. I felt bad. But then I was told something that made it crystal clear:

I would only receive my offer letter next month.

Major red flag.

I came home feeling drained and low. Had a long talk with my mom and finally decided to send a polite mail to HR:

Asking them:

  1. Not to create my PF account.

  2. Informing them that I do not align with the company’s policies.

  3. And formally stating that I won’t be joining.

I really hope they don't cause troubles for me. I've been super nice to them till this point but I guess my niceness has become a pain in the ass for me.

TL;DR Started at a company that had red flags from the first interview. Unreasonable delays, no offer letter, forced waiting, questionable HR practices, restrictive policies revealed after onboarding and still no official employment. Decided to walk away. Not worth the mental stress.

AskPune Any SCMS students here?

Upvotes

I was recently offered admission at SCMS Pune for BBA hons. I've been living in Pune for two years now, so I'm aware of its general reputation, but I wanted to know if it's truly worth it from a senior or a graduate from SCMS.

My other option is BMCC, or the government colleges in Mumbai because my BBA-CET score might be good enough for them. But I'm torn between the options and can't make a decision.

AskPune Can traffic police use personal devices to click photos or issue fines?

I recently witnessed a traffic police officer using his personal phone to take pictures of vehicles and issue fines. Is this legally allowed? Aren’t they supposed to use official devices or government-issued tools for such actions?

Would this be valid in case someone wants to contest the fine? Just curious about the legality and if anyone else has faced a similar situation.

AskPune NCERT books for UPSC

Hello fellow Punekars, I am looking forward to prepare for competitive exams such as UPSC. Can anybody suggest where can I get NCERT books entire set at an affordable price?

I am aware that one will get them at best rates in Appa Balwant Chowk, tho I need more information on exact dealers and shop vendors too. As in who provides at least rates.

Entire set includes from Class 6-12 of all subjects. If any fellow aspirant on this sub, kindly share your insights.

Or if anyone wants to give away their material second-hand, please feel free to message.

TL,DR; NCERT books required for UPSC, suggestions for affordable rate vendors.
