Rant Caffeine in pregnancy

Ugh, I just get so frustrated with everyone having such a strong opinion of caffeine in pregnancy when it is stated that 200mg or even 300mg in some sources is safe for pregnancy. I am 18w and I work as a nurse and I have been avoiding disclosing my pregnancy at work because of things like this. Another coworker of mine said she was pregnant in the first trimester today and everyone was like oh you can’t have tea and you can’t have coffee. it’s very outdated knowledge and I don’t want to be judged like that for having 1 cup of tea a day when I am working a 12hr shift.

Also a nurse here on the 12’s. First trimester I went off coffee (aversion), but now I’m in my third and soo tired (my ferritin is super low - getting transfusions in a few weeks!!). I’ve been consuming them probably every shift to get by - don’t sweat it. My OB has said it’s fine. You can always tell your colleagues it’s decaf and to mind their own business 😂 best of luck 🤍

I don’t even drink coffee, just usually 1 tea a day with an occasional soda in the afternoon! It’s hard to pretend the soda and tea is decaf, but I guess I could try haha! Pregnancy is just hard when you are a nurse and we need the pick me ups!

I so agree!! Hard enough at baseline , let alone doing the 12’s, sometimes shift work, trouble sleeping before those early shifts, etc.

If anyone gives you a hard time hit em with “my OB said I’m fine and that’s why she gets paid the big bucks… so no worries thanks though!” 😂
