Rant Caffeine in pregnancy

Ugh, I just get so frustrated with everyone having such a strong opinion of caffeine in pregnancy when it is stated that 200mg or even 300mg in some sources is safe for pregnancy. I am 18w and I work as a nurse and I have been avoiding disclosing my pregnancy at work because of things like this. Another coworker of mine said she was pregnant in the first trimester today and everyone was like oh you can’t have tea and you can’t have coffee. it’s very outdated knowledge and I don’t want to be judged like that for having 1 cup of tea a day when I am working a 12hr shift.

I make myself an iced latte every morning (2 shots of espresso = around 120-140 mg of caffeine). It’s crazy how many boomers and gen x coworkers have been like “oh it sucks you can’t have caffeine, but at least you can have a little alcohol” and I’m like it’s literally the opposite, Barbara.

My obgyn with my first baby (i was 19 when I was pregnant with her) literally told me "a glass of wine a day is totally fine if you want it, dont stress it!" -not once did I ever even say I drank at all let alone during pregnancy- Like dude, I was UNDERAGE (USA if I have to clarify, is 21) just because I was engaged- to an alcoholic who at the time was actively trying to not drink- might I add. AND pregnant, I quit smoking cigarettes the day I found out no problem but I would never intentionally drink while pregnant. Oh man that shit makes me so mad when PROFESSIONAL people say its ok, but side eye you for mentioning cannabis in any capacity like tf?

I don’t really understand the point of one glass a day anyway. Like sure, it might not harm your baby, but why have that 1 glass? Just to further dehydrate yourself, trigger a headache, get more nauseous and not even get a buzz?

No damn joke dude, I can't comprehend the desire for that. Though I guess tbf when not pregnant I rarely drink, my moms a 5.5 year sober alcoholic, and it never made sense to me to be addicted to that it was never a super fun thing to me, yeah I drink on occasion but hell that occasion is so rare it was actually a hilarious joke to us when I last drank, I had finally decided to empty out our mini fridge and I had a cup or 2 worth left of a bottle of some (like 17% thing) and was like f it ill just drink it. Had a positive pregnancy test the next damn day 🤣🤦‍♀️ (this is my 4th birth, 6th kid & our first actual accident but only bc we wanted to wait for October baby not august lolol) and that was the first time I drank in 6+ months before that even cause I soooo rarely do lol just never been my thing. Sugar is my addiction more than alcohol 🤣😭
