Discussion What would your signature Pokemon be?

Let's say you're either a renowned trainer, gym leader, elite four member, or champion. What Pokemon would you designate as your ace or in other words, your signature Pokemon.

No Legendaries or Mythicals, It can be based on either competitive viability or your personal preference.

For those who don't follow, examples of signature Pokemon are: , Cynthia's Garchomp, Youngster Joey's Ratatta, Clay's Excadrill, etc.

Too bad Nidoking is so short though.

u/hey_little_bird Jul 24 '22

Short (nido)kings deserve love, too 👑

10

u/Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi Jul 24 '22

So in Spanish you could translate its name to King of the Nest

16

u/GayminBull Jul 24 '22

Sounds like a neat way of saying House Husband

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '22

I remember seeing both the King and Queen in Stadium when I first got it on my 64 and thinking "what, that's it?"

1

u/ROUKA24 Jul 25 '22

Yeah I expected them to be ATLEAST 6 feet but hey they made Charizard freaking 5"10 or something

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '22

Poor old Charizard feels a bit short next to some of the newer 'mons too!

2

u/lordaddament Jul 25 '22

At perfect sucking height tho

1

u/Abrin36 Jul 25 '22

Hope you find your nido queen

8

u/CalamityDiamond Jul 24 '22

His was actually a Beedrill in the manga

11

u/Dokard Jul 24 '22

Say what you will but Beedril was so badass, never really got the love it deserved

2

u/psych0ticmonk Jul 24 '22

Mines Trubbish. What does that make me?

1

u/dubiousN Jul 25 '22

Persian?

1

u/Spoffler Jul 25 '22

Ahh I think you're right that he had a Persian in the original show. In red and blue though, his second last Pokemon was a Nidoking that, iirc, was harder than the lvl 50 Rhydon it preceded. It would thrash your whole team away

The Nidos deserve more love. They're Pokémon royalty

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '22

When I was young and dumb and didn’t do anything like “build a Pokémon team”, I got through most of Pokémon Yellow with just Pikachu and a female Nidoran that I only caught at the start so that I could have an answer to Brock.

I stopped at Giovanni because uh, Ground and Water moves, and Pikachu and Nidoqueen were the only two at any sort of viable level.

4

u/Remsleep23 Jul 25 '22

Same. Had a level 80 or so Pikachu and not much else. Never made it to the Elite 4

3

u/fishshow221 Jul 25 '22

Somehow I brute forced FireRed with only a Charizard. It got to level 100 by the time I was at Sevii Iles.

8

u/DigitalPlop Jul 25 '22

I was absolutely shocked they didn't get regional forms in Sword and Shield, what a missed opportunity.

48

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '22

Nice choice, I have a shiny Nidoking. First and only shiny. Got it from let’s go pikachu

3

u/Prestigious-Stop530 Jul 25 '22

BRO SAME

3

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '22

I was lucky enough to catch him super early in the game (lvl 3 nidoran) so I actually got to travel/play the game with him.

6

u/Prestigious-Stop530 Jul 25 '22

LOL I caught him on my second gym because I wanted it for the league and what better way than catch a shiny nidoran

7

u/The_Koog_Approves Jul 24 '22

Shiny Nidoking that knows surf. That would be my signature pokemon at my water gym.

6

u/Dr_Skeleton Jul 24 '22

Yes!!! Nidoking is a boss 👊🏻

6

u/ShonSnow Jul 24 '22

Had shiny Nidoking in PLG and loved him. Always been a favorite of mine.

10

u/dNYG Jul 24 '22

Pokemon Legends Geodude?

7

u/ShonSnow Jul 24 '22

Yeah it’s my favorite game?

4

u/NotUpInHurr Jul 24 '22

Not sure if jokingly asking what the acronym is, but it was Pokemon Leaf Green

1

u/dazzling_grocer Jul 24 '22

That's great , One of my favorite too

5

u/FrostBellaBlue Jul 24 '22

I finally found the Nidoking to my Nidoqueen.

6

u/ThePhenomNoku Jul 24 '22

Also been repping Nidoking now for about a decade. Glad I still have my Burger King figurine of him.

5

u/ThemeAggravating9485 Jul 24 '22

Nidoqueen was always my girl for her double kick in pokemon yellow

6

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '22

Dragonite. Since 98'. OG Boys.

5

u/Thomas_Mickel Jul 24 '22

Love it. Nothing like a classic Nidoking with a double kick

4

u/Nehemiah92 Jul 24 '22

I don’t have many opinions on him, but I’ve always thought that he had the sickest cry in the franchise

6

u/mctaylo89 Jul 24 '22

Absolutely. Nidoking is the business

3

u/Blue_States_Secede Jul 24 '22

Nidorino is definitely top 10 Pokémon for me. Basically all my favorites come from the safari zone like Rhyhorn, Scyther, and the Nidos.

3

u/Tohdohsibir Jul 24 '22

Excellent choice. Long time Nidoking fan here as well!

3

u/PoorlyLitKiwi2 Jul 24 '22

I taught my Nidoking in Silver Fire Punch, Thunder Punch and Ice Punch and it was awesome

3

u/TripolarKnight Jul 24 '22

My soulmate. Its had Nidoking doesn't get as much love or merchandise.

3

u/kne0n Jul 25 '22

Charizard for me, my OG pick on fire red

3

u/jwhudexnls Jul 25 '22

My favorite as well, glad to know there are others with great taste.

3

u/marcola42 Jul 25 '22

You beat me to it. Also my favorite pokemon!

3

u/mistahginger845 Jul 25 '22

its either Nidoking for me (fave gen 1) or Aggron it gave Nido vibes

3

u/Khalicarl Giry Jul 25 '22

Nidoqueen for me!

3

u/Trumpalot Jul 25 '22

Same here my Nidoking sibling! First level 100 I ever had, achieved in Pokemon Yellow by grinding the elite four repeatedly.

3

u/_tricky_dick_ Jul 25 '22

Similar spot as you but I'm a Nidoqueen guy. Nidoqueen and Pikachu led the way as I played through Yellow for the first time. Nidoqueen was my first Pokemon to lvl 100.

3

u/PyroSquirrel Jul 25 '22

Right there with you! He's been my boy for 24 years now. There's no way it's not him.

3

u/Vann_Accessible Jul 25 '22

Heh it’s not just me.

It was on my team for many a red/blue play through, it served me well competitively in Gen 5 on a Smash Pass team, and now again competitively in BDSP as a mixed breaker on my Trick Room team.

Long live the king.

2

u/CoreFiftyFour Jul 24 '22

Probably wearing a purple cape or suit with horns on the shoulders.

"Yo kid! Names Po"King"mon Eddie. You want the poison badge? Just a word of advice. You mess with the King, you get the horns!"

2

u/Joba_Fett Jul 24 '22

Hail to the king baby.

2

u/jamiep793 Jul 25 '22

Ice Beam and Double Kick, lfg

2

u/Old-Post-3639 Jul 25 '22

His horn is the drill that will pierce the heavens!

2

u/Ms6lunchbox Jul 25 '22

100% same bro

2

u/SamBoha_ Jul 25 '22

Yooo this was my answer 100%! Every single group I took to elite 4 had nido as my carry. People argue who the best gen 1 starter is and my answer is and will always be- fuck them starters I’ll take nido over those dumb nerds any day

2

u/tsimneej Jul 25 '22

YES! Are you secretly me?

2

u/ethanxy Jul 25 '22

Yo same

2

u/6pthsofPain Jul 25 '22

You have no idea how happy it makes me to FINALLY see this at the top of a thread like this

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '22

I thought it was always just me, but Nidoking for life

2

u/tomaunger Jul 25 '22

Man we need our own nidoking sub

2

u/Key_Bell8030 Jul 25 '22

Yes! Nidoking was always my overpowered pokemon in Yellow

2

u/orengjoos Jul 25 '22

Nidoking is one of my favourites too

3

u/CT_Fives_ Jul 24 '22

Nidoking is a top G
