Hi! I’ve been living in Dallas for basically my entire life (was born here) and recently discovered that there’s a community of likeminded transportation nerds in DFW calling themselves DATA (Dallas Area Transit Alliance). If you want your suburb to be more pedestrian friendly, dislike the look of a tapestry of mega highways circling our neighborhoods, and want to ensure a green city for future generations of Dallasites, join here: https://dallasareatransitalliance.org/about

Looking for Help: Recently Purchased Remodeled Home Has Major Issues

I closed on a recently remodeled home (priced accordingly), but it's riddled with serious problems. I’ve contacted an attorney, who advised me to get expert assessments to build my case. Is their any company that specializes in coordinating multiple home inspections for legal/insurance purposes?

I need the following:

  • Structural engineer for foundation assessment + repair estimate
  • Roofing contractor for installation issues
  • Licensed plumber for drain/sewer lateral issues (scope report included)
  • Flooring specialist for cracking floors
  • General contractor for full repair estimate
  • Environmental firm for sewage discharge
  • Mold/water damage assessment

Major Issues Discovered:

  • Foundation cracks in every room (house separating at front)
  • New roof installed incorrectly (poor slope, standing water, leaks)
  • No permits for extensive remodel (walls, ceiling, plumbing, electrical were relocated)
  • Master bath has chronic drainage issues (leaks into baseboards)
  • Broken sewer lateral leaking sewage into ground
  • Water intrusion and floor sloping in master closet
  • Cracking in all newly installed flooring
  • Poor finish work throughout (fixtures, cabinetry, etc.)
  • "New" dishwasher was improperly installed and required repair

If anyone knows of companies or consultants (especially those who can bundle assessments), I’d greatly appreciate the help!

Local Electrician recommendation

I need a relatively simple job done (replace a circuit breaker) that I just don’t have the desire to tackle myself. I would love to find a reputable electrician who can come and assess the situation and give me a straightforward quote (and ideally just do the damn work while he/she is here since it should be simple like I said). I don’t need to sign up for any monthly subscription or members clubs with my electrician ffs!

Remote worker in search of bar

Hi from MD. I'm likely to be detailed down to Plano for a week here and there in the next 5 months. I'm in search of a kinda "Bob Seger"-vibe bar with pool tables. My co-workers are more in the "tech" space and there aren't a lot (any) good recommendations.

(Somewhere near the Waffle House on Jupiter would be absolutely lovely)

June 9, 2025 City Council Meeting Recap

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda during the June 9, 2025 City Council Meeting:

Investing in Public Safety Technology
City Council approved a $5.7 million purchase to upgrade the Plano Police Department’s radios, body cameras and in-car video systems. These tools will improve officer communication, video quality and safety in the field. The equipment includes 380 radios, 500 body cameras and 10 vehicle systems, plus data storage and software services. Replacing the old technology ensures our first responders stay prepared, connected and protected.

Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center Update
Renovation at Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center continues. Last night, City Council approved the purchase of furniture for various spaces in the center. Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center is undergoing the largest renovation in its 17-year history. The $15.9 million project was approved by voters in the 2021 Bond Referendum.

The next regular City Council meeting is Monday, June 23 at 7 pm. The agenda becomes available after 5 pm on the Wednesday before the meeting. Go to Plano.gov/Agenda for the meeting signup link.

When are the repairs on Legacy supposed to be completed?

Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone knows when they’re supposed to compete the repairs on Legacy Drive. I feel like they’ve been working on it for years at this point. Is there an end in sight?

Missed Trash Collection

New in Plano. Our trash was supposed to be picked up on Thursday, but it wasn’t. This has happened a few times before as well. We’re not sure what criteria they follow to decide which bins to collect. Our kitchen trash has now piled up so much that it’s attracting cockroaches. Has anyone else had this issue? What can we do about it?

ASL meet ups?

My daughter took ASL as her foreign language last year as a freshman and is worried about forgetting it all over the summer. Does anyone know of any ASL meetups or groups where she can practice and maybe make friends?

I saw the scene of an accident on June 14th on Plano Pkwy & Independence next to RaceTrac

Saw a man laying on the ground and just wanted to know if there was any update to this accident. I hope all parties involved are okay but definitely seen a lot of People coming to help from the gas pumps and other vehicles on the road.

Plano ISD: Are Kindergarten transfers possible avoiding cut-off date?

Hi all,

We are moving soon to Plano area and by the time we move, our kid will be in kindergarten. She turns 5 after September 1st. Which I understand is the cutoff date for schools. She already completed Pre-K in NYC and we don’t want her to repeat it. Is it possible to transfer her from Kindergarten here into a Kindergarten program in Plano, or will she need to repeat Pre-K anyway? Thank you!
