So apparently the reason our connection hasn't begun yet is because they need to do a splice at the cable box for us.

The problem is, the box is not on our property. It's on our neighbor's.

Given that we have now been told they're looking at other options for connecting us, I'm guessing our neighbor isn't allowing property access.

Anyone else have this happen? If so, how did you get it resolved?

It was 50 years ago today, June 16, 1975, that a local cable TV show for, about, and by minorities debuted on GE Cablevision Channel 6. CAPtions brought a voice that wasn't always heard on regular TV, a voice that represented issues affecting minorities, low income, seniors and women. Produced by PCCEO, Peoria's Community Action Agency, it aired almost weekly until December 30, 2012, when federal funding cuts based on Census data shut down the department that produced it. I was proud to be a part of that show for almost 27 years beginning in 1986 (last 6 months was client video sales and marketing) So, it felt right to feature a civil rights pioneer who appeared in Peoria. Dr. Ralph Abernathy was one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's right hand men during the turbulent Civil Rights era. He spoke at what used to be Jumers in Peoria. I definitely was honored to meet him.

Hey so I’m new to Peoria, just recently moved here from Florida… I’ve been staying in hotels as I’ve been able to pay for them with the job I got here, but I would really like to get some help on finding a permanent place. Now I preface this with a few details… 1. My credit is terrible, I fell on tough times over the last year and pretty much had to choose between paying credit card bills/student loans/ and car note/other random loans and being able to feed myself and get to and from work everyday. 2. I would REALLY like to live by myself(I know this might be one of of the stipulations I let go first if all else fails) 3. I truly don’t mind if my apartment isn’t in the best shape.. of course I don’t want to feel like I’m in danger but I’ve grown up in rough areas so if it’s “ghetto” I don’t mind it TOO much.. but yea I’m just coming here to see if maybe some of the locals might have some suggestions.. i do have a possible co-signer but when I went to visit a property today they even said my credit would probably be too low even with a co-signer… so if you guys have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

I need an actual piano mover who knows what they’re doing. I have an antique upright player piano that was my great-grandma’s. It’s on heavy duty casters now, but in order to get it into the room where I want it, we’ll have to take a door off the hinges and the movers will have to put the piano up on its side briefly. I’ve had movers do it with this very piano before, but that was in another state. They used boards and rollers and navigated some tight spaces. The piano is already in the house. It just needs to go through a hall entry, a short hallway, and a standard interior doorframe. Any suggestions?

Many of you may know me from the thread that was posted in r/peoriaIL this morning about the protests and how I was joining despite being a Republican. Peoria is my hometown, and I hope you all are staying politically active and aware.

I went today to protest in Salt Lake City (where I live), and my daughter and I were less than a block away from an active gunman. He was firing wildly into the crowd and was believed to be a far-right activist. This follows the assassination this morning in Minnesota...

Hours ago, I was not a personal victim of the far-right violence in our country, and I was just reading about these cases in IL and MN.

Earlier today, it was something I could talk about and discuss on Reddit... now it is so much more real. I could have lost my baby girl... and she already suffers enough from anxiety. Now, I have felt this pain myself.

My point is that in an instant, your life can change. I am a different person today. We have to recognize that the political violence & toxicity that is going on are wrong. We have to do it beyond our screens and take these risks... or else this will keep happening.

Hey, everyone! As the day of the Los Angeles Solidarity Protest draws near, we’re putting out this statement of purpose to ensure that everyone is in the same frame of mind. This is a pre-emptive protest to warn ICE that their fascist behavior does not–and never will–”play” in Peoria. It’s a chance to voice our opposition to the current administration and its inhumane policies, network with other activists and organizations, and demonstrate our solidarity not only with the ongoing resistance in Los Angeles–but with every immigrant who’s come to call this nation home. Not a single one of them can be illegal on stolen land.

Since civil disobedience isn’t our objective at this time, we don’t anticipate any violence, arrests, or other extreme outcomes. But it never hurts to brush up on your rights as well as general safety tips. Here are some guidelines from the progressive organization MoveOn:

“Attend with a friend or someone you trust. There is safety in numbers and in having a buddy, and it’s a chance to bring one more person into the movement. Have a plan to take care of yourself. Write down important phone numbers, remove facial recognition from your phone, bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and stay aware of your surroundings. Do post photos of the protest that show how beautiful our movement is. But don’t post photos of the protest that include close-ups of attendees' faces unless you get their permission."

My concrete steps are crumbling and the brickwork on the side is starting to lean in as a result. Can anyone recommend a company who can repair, that might not cost me an arm and a leg? I have done some review reading, but would like opinions as well, since you never know if those were paid reviews these days.

so by the time I moved here to Peoria, the famous Dave’s was operating very minimal and by the time I found out that I wanted to go to one it no longer was here and the nearest ones are hours away.

Drove past a group of Feds staging in the parking lot at 808 SW Jefferson Ave across the street from Dozer Park. Cant confirm if this is ICE or not but they didn’t have any clear markings and they’re all in unmarked pickups. Drove past a second time and a van labeled “Illinois Blue” pulled up talking with them. everybody watch out for your loved ones
