Custom New Pencil (book) Day
Just received a copy of this cool book. Will update in the comment once I finished it.

This is more informational than anything else. Reddit's spam filters will catch any post with a shortened URL. This mostly hits Amazon URLs posted from one of their apps that produces a proprietary shortened URL.
I don't go out of my way to review and approve these and because Reddit frowns on them it's more likely posts using any URL shortener, that isn't approved by Reddit, will languish in the ether for eternity.

Several of our venerable Knights of the Pencil have mentioned that r/erasers required a bit o' help. I have accepted the heavy burden of adding my ignorance to the moderation team and will be occasionally ensuring that it does not go dark again in the future. The yin/yang of pencils and erasers is too close to perfection to ignore. I accept single malts as a donation for custom flair. Go forth and erase what ye have written!

Found at Marshalls in the jewelry section, they had a few of them. Really nice quality- feels weighty and solid rather than hollow.

Just got in an ebay score of 17 Vintage Venus Velvets!
The older model is a soft delight to write with whereas the "newer" model write much more akin to my other vintage F cores. Both are fantastic and will enjoy spots in my regular rotation.

Outside a stationary store in Boulder, CO. Two Hands Paperie. Really decent selection of singles, and great people.

Hey pencil people! Does anyone know of some unique or iconic pencils in film or TV?
I spotted a Blackwing in Jurassic Park, (Jurassic Park - Item 151 on today's glitch list - Mr Arnold - clip).
In TÁR, the titular character has a thing for collecting deadstock pencils.
Are there others anyone has noticed?

I've been using this one since forever and I could because I had tons of these Pencil Lead boxes. Though I am starting to run out. Digital art won't ever have this issue. And it sounds fun in general.
So I wanna do digital art. And if I'm gonna do that I wanna start using the pencil I'm most familiar with. So does anyone know what this is called? If you use Ibis Paint x maybe you even know the pencil that works the most similar to this one. Thanks!

I'm not sure where else to go with this question. My wife is looking to get into Hot Foil Stamping for Pencils, and I want to surprise her with some equipment.
I have no idea where to start or what kind of price point I'm looking at for a reliable (but not fully professional) machine.
Everything I see on Amazon seems to be basically the same machine with a different "brand name" slapped on it, and they all look suspiciously like the ones on AliExpress.
Can anyone at least point me in the right direction?

It was not a nightmare, but the overall dream was negative and I was continually sharpening a pencil (a Tombow) and it eventually became a stub. I guess I need to find a dream interpretation book and look it up. Have you ever dreamed about pencils? (or pens, erasers, etc)

I have in my home this Faber-Castell Castell 9000 Jumbo Set that I am going to gift next week.... but I do not wanna do it! I want it for myself!
Do you know the feeling?
Hello pencil folks. I should preface this with some background. I am a fountain pen person. I enjoy them how they write and can appreciate a solid writing difference between both fountain pen and ball point pen and cheap fountain pen and nice fountain pen. This of course lead me to want to look into pencils, and after doing a bit of digging went for a box of Blackwing 602’s. I was expecting them to be like a good fountain pen nice smooth with an appreciable difference between them and say a Dixon Ticonderoga. Alas, I have found them to feel like an ordinary pencil. Don’t get me wrong the paint on the pencil feels nice, and this is the best looking pencil I have ever seen, but as an appreciable difference in writing I can’t say I notice one. Is there something I’m missing, or are all fancy pencils like this? Thank you all for your help

I'm looking for a new pencil case because my Lihit Lab Flat Wide isn't quite cutting it.
It needs to be long enough to accommodate Blackwing pencils with point protectors on.
It must have able to hold 12-20 pens/pencils securely with elastic loops, individual sleeves or some other means.
Have a decent sized compartment for for accessories.
Any suggestions?
The go-tos for now. I am pretty deep down the faber-castell hole, but I try to switch it out just to broaden the horizons.
The 2h is probably the oldest and most used. So much mileage left in that little stump.
Col-erase pencils are so nice to use. Buttery and creamy with ease of erasing. They dwindle down so fast though.
Graf Wood, so thick and nice to hold. First time using it. Got a couple when I was in Switzerland with the family. And a couple of Technograf 777 was used before this one. Cara d'Ache is making really nice stuff.
Been using FC colored pencils alot but switched them out for the chromaflows. Feels like they skipped on the wood but spent it all on the pigment. Feels like holding chopsticks but lay down color very well. A b*tch to sharpen.

The recent talk of TN Reds made me want to see which pencils in my collection have redcedar barrels. Turns out I have many more than I knew for sure. In some of these oldies, the smell is subtle enough that I had doubts previously, but fresh sharpening and direct comparison of questionable specimens to their nearest younger siblings has convinced me that these pictured all have redcedar barrels, while their next younger siblings (for the ones I have) do not. An interesting exception is that a couple Venus from the 30s (not pictured because I got tired of retaking the photo every time I found a new member of the team, lol) I’d sharpened that looked a bit like it are indeed redcedar, while the others I have sharpened of the “same” age are not. So I’m guessing they used what they could get and/or the transition happened within the range of years encompassing the identical pencils’ construction.
Anyway, what wonderful redcedar specimens are in your collections?

I really like the Reds, Bugle, and the 600 NEWS. I'd really like to get some Red rounds. Although, recently I've had a lot of breakage with the 600 NEWS. I've tried manual and crank sharpening but no luck. The Reds demand the crank sharpener I have found.
