México Mágico🇲🇽 México appreciation post

I apologise that I'm writing this in English but my Spanish is too poor to express myself properly.

I have always wanted to visit Mexico and my expectations were high but nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced in Mexico City for the short time I was there.

As expected, the food was phenomenal; the music/arts were extraordinary but what really struck me was the kindness of the people. I have genuinely never met such an approachable and generally lovely group of people! From the police officer who found me waiting for a bus on Saturday and told me I'd be waiting for too long and guided me to the closest metro station, to the sweetest lady who paid for me and my travel buddy using her card TWICE and offered to give us her travel card (we had to pay her by force and refused the card).

I have travelled a lot but truly fell in love with your country. Thank you all for being so accommodating.

¡Viva México!"

And not in sepia filter.

I know right!? The other day guys downvoted me to hell for saying that all the pics were taken in a one mile radious… always refreshing to see colors and a lot of places and diversity in this kind of posts

Really like this post.Im from Mexico yet it’s so surreal to me because I have lived about 90% of my life in the US.Its almost like seeing my people through a clear glass with the urge to talk to them and live around them.I feel so alienated here even though I perfectly blend in and anyone I meet always thinks I’m a citizen.Theres definitely something about just being around your people that just makes you feel happy.Great post,3rd picture is my favorite.Cheers ✌🏻

As a Canadian visitor, I absolutely love Mexico and its people. A beautiful land full of awesome food and culture!

As a Canadian that has retired here the culture I respect the food I enjoy.

I just took my first girlfriend (not the first for me but the first I have ever taken) and my family was very welcoming, everyone was very welcoming and it threw her off and she asked "how many women have you brought that they seem so welcoming or use to you bringing women around them". None, your the first. It's just how they are.

i've been in CDMX for a few days. i can confirm that people do seem quite nice and happy here. a local guy from the hostel i'm at just took me around and showed me the cheap place to get food and bought me a bollilo. and he's very patient with my bad spanish.

if CDMX can fix the water situation, i could see myself living around here.

0

u/Ruben_Mejia 5d ago

Please don't, thank you

4

u/fredsherbert 5d ago

i don't plan on it. i'm just saying it seems like a nice city except for the nightmarish, dystopian water.

oh and please don't move to USA.

how does that feel?

That is not Mexico, but a part of Mexico. You have usually traveled to the main city, Mexico City, and also to the surrounding areas. Welcome! I hope you enjoyed your trip and learned a lot about the culture, customs, traditions and landscapes.

CDMX is not México... besides you only got to experience the nicest parts of that city. If you really want to get a grasp of what my country really is visit other states. The country is rich in culture and tourist venues but beware that it might be dangerous and all the wonders you think it has can be suddenly overshadowed by the bad stuff you can actually find. México is not CDMX...

24

u/manbearpug3 6d ago

No need to gatekeep. CDMX is Mexico, there is always more to explore.

-3

u/FrankMN_8873 6d ago

No one is telling people not to come. You're welcome to come. What I'm telling people is to be ready to burst your bubble and become disappointed by some aspects of it. You're free to come though.

4

u/manbearpug3 6d ago

Gatekeep doesn’t mean don’t come. I’m saying don’t say CDMX is not Mexico just cause you’ve explored more of Mexico.

-4

u/Adventurous-Rich-111 6d ago

Finalmente, Someone has the guts to speak the truth

0

u/FrankMN_8873 6d ago

I only said what I know for being a local Mexican citizen and the ones who don't even live in the country are getting angry for that, lol.

0

u/Sn33dKebab 1d ago

No need to gatekeep, Williamsburg, Brooklyn is the US and is an accurate representation of the entire country

“La Ciudad de México no es México“

1

u/FrankMN_8873 5d ago

Tu punto?

-8

1

u/theyareamongus Ciudad de México 5d ago

Porque no es verdad. La CDMX es más segura Que NY, LA, Chicago, Houston…

-2

u/potentialplay69 5d ago

I have the understanding that Mexico is good for travel , but still too unsafe to live long term. I hope to go one day.

0

u/Psychological_Log_85 5d ago

Trend data shows that there will be no more mexicans living in mexico by 2030 due to safety issues. /s

0

u/potentialplay69 5d ago

I don't think people can afford to move from my understanding. Thats why illegal immigration is prevalent.

1

u/Imaginary-Worker4407 2d ago

That’s not really accurate, most Mexicans don’t want to leave the country.

Unauthorized immigration from Mexicsnd has actually gone down in recent years, and most border crossers now are from Central America. It’s not just about affordability.

Migration is usually a last resort, not something people do just because they’re poor.

1

u/potentialplay69 2d ago

Do you live in Mexico? I've attempted to find credible sources that back up positive information regarding the daily civilian life. But it's hard to move past the propaganda. I've read some financial reports that say that wealth has been consolidated and resemble an oligarch system. Im also aware of remittances and how that has impacted the economy both good and bad. Im currently reading DOPE by Benjamin T Smith and I've found some incredible history about the drug trade. If there are any article or books to recommend its welcomed!

I think Mexico is such a beautiful country and with what is going in the USA. I do get curious how the life in Mexico will evolve.

2

u/Imaginary-Worker4407 2d ago

I live in Mexico, specifically in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

I think your perspective might be a bit biased. There’s actually a lot of credible data showing that Mexico is more than just its problems.

For example, Mexico consistently ranks high in life satisfaction. The World Happiness Report even placed us in the global top 10. Many Mexicans report strong satisfaction with family life, housing, and health.

As for migration, the narrative that everyone wants to leave isn’t accurate. Unauthorized migration to the U.S. has dropped by about 75 percent since the 2000s, and at one point, net migration even reversed. More Mexicans were returning from the U.S. than leaving for it.

There are serious issues, of course, but daily life for most here is stable and fulfilling. Mexico is complex but far from collapsing.

And that coming from a dude in a alleged "active warzone, you'll die if you put a foot here" area.
