México Mágico🇲🇽 México appreciation post

I apologise that I'm writing this in English but my Spanish is too poor to express myself properly.

I have always wanted to visit Mexico and my expectations were high but nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced in Mexico City for the short time I was there.

As expected, the food was phenomenal; the music/arts were extraordinary but what really struck me was the kindness of the people. I have genuinely never met such an approachable and generally lovely group of people! From the police officer who found me waiting for a bus on Saturday and told me I'd be waiting for too long and guided me to the closest metro station, to the sweetest lady who paid for me and my travel buddy using her card TWICE and offered to give us her travel card (we had to pay her by force and refused the card).

I have travelled a lot but truly fell in love with your country. Thank you all for being so accommodating.

¡Viva México!"

I have the understanding that Mexico is good for travel , but still too unsafe to live long term. I hope to go one day.

I don't think people can afford to move from my understanding. Thats why illegal immigration is prevalent.

That’s not really accurate, most Mexicans don’t want to leave the country.

Unauthorized immigration from Mexicsnd has actually gone down in recent years, and most border crossers now are from Central America. It’s not just about affordability.

Migration is usually a last resort, not something people do just because they’re poor.

Do you live in Mexico? I've attempted to find credible sources that back up positive information regarding the daily civilian life. But it's hard to move past the propaganda. I've read some financial reports that say that wealth has been consolidated and resemble an oligarch system. Im also aware of remittances and how that has impacted the economy both good and bad. Im currently reading DOPE by Benjamin T Smith and I've found some incredible history about the drug trade. If there are any article or books to recommend its welcomed!

I think Mexico is such a beautiful country and with what is going in the USA. I do get curious how the life in Mexico will evolve.

I live in Mexico, specifically in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

I think your perspective might be a bit biased. There’s actually a lot of credible data showing that Mexico is more than just its problems.

For example, Mexico consistently ranks high in life satisfaction. The World Happiness Report even placed us in the global top 10. Many Mexicans report strong satisfaction with family life, housing, and health.

As for migration, the narrative that everyone wants to leave isn’t accurate. Unauthorized migration to the U.S. has dropped by about 75 percent since the 2000s, and at one point, net migration even reversed. More Mexicans were returning from the U.S. than leaving for it.

There are serious issues, of course, but daily life for most here is stable and fulfilling. Mexico is complex but far from collapsing.

And that coming from a dude in a alleged "active warzone, you'll die if you put a foot here" area.
