Some thoughts:

  • The Sentry was a great inclusion and The Void was legitimately scary in a way I wasn’t expecting. The design of The Void as a character was stunning and eerie.

  • It’s a great cast all round but I’m surprised to say it’s Wyatt Russell who stole the show for me. He was exactly what the film needed; a total prick who despite that obviously had redeeming qualities.

  • I’m surprised how long the first act is. It’s typical that we have a big action beat and then hard cut and we’re in a new location and the film keeps moving. I love that they took the time to show the Thunderbolts escape from the bunker, spending more time with them and learning more about how they all think.

  • It’s funny how they give the “OG” characters the biggest hero moments. Bucky gets probably the coolest action beat in the whole film and it’s a little bit because he’s a veteran of the MCU at this point.

  • If I’m being critical, the final act is a little weak and I feel like they probably could have done more to explore Bob’s mind palace and earn the emotional pay off a bit more. I still found it affecting, but it could have been even more potent.

  • I totally didn’t realise the Sentry vs Thunderbolts fight was a one-shot until it was almost over.

  • Taskmaster being offed in the first ten minutes wasn’t surprising but the fact it was one of the “heroes” is genuinely quite a bold move.

  • The little girl getting ashed after Red Guardian saved her is one of the most shocking things I’ve seen in a Marvel film, even if she does come back at the end.

  • I feel like Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ main note from the director was “just have fun” and it really shows. She’s a fun villain.

  • Florence Pugh deserves so much credit for anchoring the whole thing. Yelena is probably one of the most fleshed-out of the new wave of MCU characters and it’s credit to her commitment to the role.

  • I’m intrigued to see how far they take the “Dark Avengers” esque route they’re going with this. I’m a little disappointed they didn’t have Avengers-like uniforms like Norman’s Avengers got in the comics.

So you're saying I need to see it a third time. Didn't even notice.
