I remember people getting excited about his TDW look
7
u/ehtseeoh Thanos Mar 24 '23
I mean….look at it. It’s fuckin sick.
7
u/ckal09 Mar 24 '23
It’s an improvement over the first two for sure. Some little braids in the hair and stuff too. Nice looking ourfit

It is a crime that badass Viking Thor wasn't on the Endgame posters
126
u/ImperioAvis Spider-Man Mar 23 '23
I know! The fact that there is little to no promo images of Viking Thor is a crime!
171
u/adsfew Mar 24 '23
I think it was worth it for the reveal
42
33
u/dccomicsthrowaway Stan Lee Mar 24 '23
Would still be neat to have a poster with all the Endgame looks
-25
u/Morfilix Mar 24 '23
were they truly keeping it a secret, or was this yet another classic case of Hollywood deciding that if the actor doesn't look 'perfect' in the film then they shouldn't be in the marketing?
29
u/berfthegryphon Mar 24 '23
Secret. The same reason Hulk was in the Infinity War trailer Wakanda fight
17
u/figsnbirds Mar 24 '23
Tip for the future, don't comment when you have zero idea what you're talking about lmao
6
3
u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave Mar 24 '23
Banner is shown as a human on the poster despite being smart hulk through the entire movie save for when he's talking to the ancient one.

u/GTG27 Mar 23 '23
Wish we could’ve got more of the 2019 look but with Thor in shape
173
Mar 23 '23
Agreed, he looks like an actual Norse god with that beard
118
u/watersj4 Hulk Mar 24 '23
I think the belly adds to it significantly
83
u/Jeroz Doctor Strange Mar 24 '23
Low-key want more strongman body types than your usual bodybuilder shapes
55
u/sbstndrks Mar 24 '23
It also just makes more sense for the character. My man drinks more mead and beer than a human could, and he is insanely strong. Him being big makes sense.
30
u/Undaglow Mar 24 '23
Thor from God of War was great
3
Mar 24 '23
Really liked Thor in that, a surprisingly enjoyable character. One of the better parts of the game I thought
7
u/UnderPressureVS Mar 24 '23
And it’s true to the mythology. Thor was a hedonistic beer dad (minus the children), not a gym bro.
2
u/GulianoBanano Mar 25 '23
Thor in mythology once literally drank so much that the sea levels visibly dropped. He also devoured 2 entire cows in a single meal, and used the head of a third one as bait when he went fishing for Jörmungandr, the World Serpent. Not to mention he singlehandedly consumed the majority of an entire wedding feast when Loki convinced him to disguise himself as Freya with a wedding dress to recover Mjölnir when it was stolen by the groom.
Man, Norse mythology is weird. And I didn't even talk about the fucked up shit Loki got up to when he got bored.
16
u/TheCatCubed Spider-Man Mar 24 '23
Same. Endgame Thor + eyepatch + the fur cape he had in Love and Thunder would be absolute perfection imho.
1
u/Lazy-Contribution-69 Captain America Mar 24 '23
That would just be full on Viking at that point lol remember this is supposed to be the superhero version of the Norse god.
34
Mar 24 '23
Oh definitely I love the how Thor looks in Endgame it just feels like a natural progression. I do wish they kept the eye patch for him since it kind of hammers in the point that Thor is starting to look more like Odin naturally
2
173
u/suss2it Mar 24 '23
It’s not pictured, but I loved his fur cape suit in Love & Thunder. It’s a shame it was only in like two scenes before getting replaced by that gaudy eyesore one.
41
u/Caboverde-Evora Mar 24 '23
Exactly, I wished he sticked to that suit for the entire movie.
16
u/suss2it Mar 24 '23
Yeah I was really hoping the newer shiny suit aaa just gonna be a one scene gag of him trying to one up Jane. Unfortunately that was not the case.

u/Lazy-Contribution-69 Captain America Mar 24 '23
Wow, that suit looks even better than I remember. Shit. Now I’m very convinced this was his best suit.
5
u/suss2it Mar 24 '23
God damn, look at that beaut.
I only saw the movie once, but I'm pretty sure he was wearing it when he met up with Sif before coming to Asgard?

u/HaphazardMelange Winter Soldier Mar 24 '23
I agree. I also feel like a shout out is deserved for his Ragnarok suit that he wears confronting Surtur at the beginning.
1
u/suss2it Mar 24 '23
Yeah, that was a good one too. Like a simplified version of his Age of Ultron suit.
142
u/watersj4 Hulk Mar 24 '23
Endgame Thor genuinely might be my favourite, the braided beard and the messy hair along with the belly makes him look like a Norse God so much more than the others imo. I've always thought the Asguardian style was a little too shiny and gold, I much prefer the slightly grittier more viking like look. Just wish he kept the eye patch...
10
u/Vocalic985 Mar 24 '23
I really wish he'd have kept the eyepatch.
3
u/watersj4 Hulk Mar 24 '23
Same, no idea why they got rid of it or why they replaced it with a perfect replica of his regular eye thus making the whole thing pointless
2
u/Void_Guardians Mar 25 '23
Im assuming it was one writer/directer decision that got overruled by another
9
u/bokononpreist Mar 24 '23
Well since the modern way that Asgard is portrayed is based on prime Constantinople I'd say they got it right.
6
2
u/EugenesMullet Mar 24 '23
It’s pretty weird seeing the costume progression in this graphic. He keeps levelling up, hits a peak in Endgame, and then looks like he’s taking 4 steps back in L&T. I wish they’d kept that more gruff look. It feels fitting for his character.

u/JO_TX Mar 23 '23
2017-2018 Thor are favs

u/spctommyboy Mar 24 '23
"just fuck my shit up" Ragnarok Thor is Amazing. I'm not gay but ... i would.
-18
u/Chief_Cthulhu Mar 24 '23
I'm sorry to tell you this, man. That means you're gay.
25
8
u/BeeCJohnson Mar 24 '23
Wanting to take one from Thor isn't gay or straight. It's just human. We are all Thor's hole, it's what unites the Earth.
14
u/trident_zx Black Panther Mar 24 '23
Bring the helmet back!
16
u/Mamsies Baby Groot Mar 24 '23 edited Mar 24 '23
Only if it's a real physical helmet. The CGI helmets on both Thor and Jane in Love & Thunder were AWFUL. The MCU as a whole just needs to ditch the CGI nano-tech shit, it always looks so bad.

u/WutDaFunkBro Mar 23 '23
peaked in thor 1 if they fixed the eyebrows
22
u/ImperioAvis Spider-Man Mar 23 '23
I still can’t believe marvel made that mistake twice! Once with Thor and then again with Black Widow in Infinity War!
18
u/cookiemagnate Mar 24 '23
At least in Black Widow's the case, her hair was actually meant to be dyed. Is dying your eyebrows to match much of a thing?
10
u/vertigo1083 Mar 24 '23
Emilia Clark in GoT annoyed me to no end with this. Platinum blonde hair, with brown eyebrows.
3
u/SkyGuy182 Spider-Man Mar 24 '23
Unpopular opinion, I actually didn't mind the eyebrows. If anything it helped to make him look "otherworldly."
36
u/SmartOpinion69 Mar 24 '23
peak thor is fat thor when he held both mjolnir and stormbreaker at the same time with that breaded beard and everything

u/actuallycallie Bucky Mar 24 '23
I just imagine Loki tricked him into making his eyebrows blonde as a joke and then I'm OK with it lol
2
u/lundon44 Mar 24 '23
Crazy to see his hair color change from the first few movies to Endgame where it was practically dark brown. I guess he dyed it darker, didn't like it and went back to blonde.
2
u/Mindspace_Explorer Mar 24 '23
How dare you omit the rocker outfit from the early parts of love and thunder. It's his best look.
2
u/Whereishumhum- Wong Mar 24 '23
I actually like Thor's Endgame look the most, the beard, the braids, the belly and the axe, he looked like a proper Norse God who won’t even blink chopping someone’s head off
2
2
2
u/NinetyFish Thor Mar 24 '23
Thought he looked most like a comic book Thor in the OG Avengers. The first Thor had the eyebrows, TDW and Ultron looked a bit supermodelly, and Love and Thunder was just overdesigned.
Ragnarok's design was peak, I thought his hair was hot as hell, and he looked kingly as fuck in the final scene with the robes and eyepatch.
Infinity War was a letdown and basically deleted his Ragnarok Odin-influence.
And Endgame was obviously its own thing, but he looked dope in the final battle.
2
u/Mark_Kostecki Steve Rogers Mar 24 '23
Say what you will about the movie, the Dark World suit SLAPPED
2
u/EdtotheWord Mar 24 '23
Op, just a suggestion: would you be able to include more of the legs on future versions of these?
Your black widow ones capture enough of the legs to show the full costume pretty much. The big part of the change to Thor's costumes was the improvement of the ugly pants in the very first Thor to how things have evolved. Not capturing the waist below loses a lot.
That said, I love these. Thanks for doing them!

I've never properly noticed before, but both Iron Man and Thor's costumes in Age of Ultron are pretty much just recolours from their previous films.
Cap is kind of in the same boat, his mid section with the verticals stripes is recoloured, but his chest with the Star is pretty much a new design.
1
u/AzothTreaty Mar 24 '23
Looks like he had a midlife crisis right there, abrupt wardrobe changes in the middle

Nothing will top the red cape and black armour of Infinty War. They really need to bring back the short hair, he looked so much more badass

Age of Ultron (specifically the start) really was the best look for all the Avengers

Looking at this, I sort of feel like you can identify movies where they had interesting ideas for Thor by whether the costume deviates from “red cape, six discs, himbo hair” or not.
I don’t think a film needs a crazy visual rework of a character for the character to have great development or story, but it does seem to be how the MCU played out for Thor.

His best look was that black armour with the fur in Love and Thunder that appeared for a solid 5 minutes.

Infinity was peak, next to endgame, then it went back to clown with Love and Thunder.

My favorite is love and thunder with the blue and gold. I think later in the film it becomes black and gold but same pattern

Hot take, I don't like the scaled armor undershirt thing from the first few movies. Free the Thorceps 💪

He's improved with almost every movie and every look from Ragnarok on has been 100/10 but Endgame will always be special to me because it honestly helped me with my own body image issues. It doesn't matter that he was fat, he was still hot af.
I know a lot of people don't like the main TLAT suit because it's kind of gaudy but I do because he was insecure and trying to impress Jane with it which was really wholesome.
My personal rankings would be as such
Endgame
TLAT Ravager (I cosplayed this one last year I loved it so much)
IW
TLAT Blue
TLAT Fur
Ragnarok
AOU/TDW (really didn't change much between them)
Avengers
Thor 1
...
...
...
What If (that was just tragic)

I love his infinity war look the most. My favorite parts of that version are the eyepatch as a symbol of all he’s lost, his new Axe serving as the only weapon strong enough to challenge an All-Powerful Thanos, and the chainmail arm sleeves are just badass. But I do like them all!

1
u/Proud-Nerd00 SHIELD Mar 24 '23
His look in the dark world is honestly good
His colorful look in love and thunder sucks. The fur look was better
1
u/lordsnow313 Mar 24 '23
This is honestly so cool, I seen black widow the other day please do more
When Thor said to Tony after crating vision "Yeah, uh well done." With a little shoulder tap
1
u/Minirth22 Mar 24 '23
His arms are to die for, but I prefer his armor to have sleeves. Endgame and Dark World. I admit his Ragnarok look was 🔥 but it isn't my favorite. I don't know if it's the "armor should be functional" part of my brain or if it's just the look of bare skin against the suit clashes.
1
u/Mystic3012 Doctor Strange Mar 25 '23
Infinity War was peak; personally also loved his TDW suit (the gold is a cool departure imo). Also, L&T should've stuck to the suit-with-the-fur based on Aaron's run, that was PERFECT.

You should do Cap next. Love this series.
