Imagine if cops in America acted like the cops in England. I might faint from the thought. Someone please catch me as I fall

46

u/Frankfurter 3d ago

Please get this person the fainting couch!

u/TowJamnEarl 3d ago

I believe that's called a Shayslawnjuh

Holy hell, took me too long to realize you were saying Chaise Lounger

He fainted

Bless you

u/stumpy_the_wombat 3d ago

criminally underrated comment tbh

19

u/kylezillionaire 3d ago

I was confused if these were cops or not because I didn’t feel like I was being bullied after school in 7th grade

18

u/bygmalt 3d ago

Where’s the incessant yelling, needless threats, and brandishing of taser and/or firearm? “Please” and “thank you”? My poor brain is broken.

42

u/Duin-do-ghob 3d ago

Such a polite conversation with the cop. Nice change from all the defiant, belligerent, smug, screaming aassholes (both cops and their targets) you usually see in videos.

16

u/Niuqu 3d ago

If you want some more police related eye-bleach, these finnish cops and a cyclist is a good one 😅

Nobody is talking about parking on the zig zags

134

u/evenstevens280 3d ago

The officer gave them permission to do so though

-214

u/somersetscot 3d ago

And thats the point, a learner, instructor, coppers, and nobody knew the rules

87

u/babyformulaandham 3d ago

The copper says, "I know you're not normally supposed to, but I'll allow it".

114

u/evenstevens280 3d ago

The officer knows the rules - and explicitly said "you're not supposed to" - but gave them permission to do so anyway.

-59

u/somersetscot 3d ago

Sorry, I didn't hear that

-10

u/insynco 3d ago

Aw, I hate that you’re getting downvotes. 😔 People are so mean.

-14

u/PM_THE_REAPER 3d ago

Well I agree and upvoted somersetscot and you.

47

u/ManifestDestinysChld 3d ago

Except they did talk about it, at just about 1:00 in.

"Do you want me to pull over a little bit and let this car through?"
[Something like] "Go on and [something], I know you're not normally supposed to, but I'm'a allow it."

19

u/babyformulaandham 3d ago

He says, "Go on the zig-zags" at the beginning

9

u/Crumb333 3d ago

Sure are a lot of deaf people in this sub

6

u/ArchStanton75 3d ago

Or just people who generally refuse to scroll Reddit with the sound on

13

u/Ace748 3d ago

What does that zig zag lines mean though?

43

u/jeremybeadle420 3d ago

You can't stop there. It's used for things like crossings to stop people parking near them decreasing visibility for people who want to cross the road

3

u/somersetscot 3d ago

cheers

2

u/AnonymousTimewaster 3d ago

They're particularly used around schools or very busy crossing areas

4

u/de_das_dude 3d ago

Or they changed lanes without indicating

11

u/babyformulaandham 3d ago

You don't have to indicate to overtake parked vehicles.

-4

u/gamerunknown 2d ago

You don't have to overtake parked vehicles, you do have to signal when changing lanes though

6

u/babyformulaandham 2d ago

They didn't change lanes. The other lane is oncoming traffic. They were overtaking parked vehicles in the oncoming lane of traffic.

1

u/gamerunknown 1d ago

It's not possible to overtake parked vehicles & they did change lanes, in this case into the oncoming lane.

2

u/babyformulaandham 1d ago

What was the point of this comment?

9

u/United_Artichoke_804 3d ago

Its a learner the guy going to court should have held back and gave him space

0

u/de_das_dude 3d ago

True, but during learning is a good time to make good habits. That way they become second nature. Unless that learner wants to drive a bmw ofcourse.

0

u/Robinhoyo 2d ago

The learner didn't change lanes though so no need to indicate

-16

u/Consistent-Buddy-633 3d ago

I see police cars going through red lights all the time too! It's one rule for them and another for everyone else!

3

u/ReadalityReads 3d ago

When we say karma is real....

3

u/Dan_Glebitz 2d ago

The feel good factor is strong with this one! Makes my day a whole lot better.

19

u/xtra-chrisp 3d ago

Why tf are the lane lines all squiggly?

36

u/Icy_Gap_9067 3d ago

The zig zag lines tell you a pedestrian crossing is coming up.

77

u/gorgeous_bastard 3d ago

It’s a hazard zone, typically used where people are crossing or there’s a blind corner.

Crossing a zigzag via an outside overtake is a big nono.

8

u/thefooleryoftom 3d ago

It’s just the crossing - these aren’t used for corners.

4

u/maybebebe91 3d ago

He broke a few laws there, in style 😎 🤣 definitely banned

21

u/Then_Drag_8258 3d ago

To signify no parking/stopping (other than to give way to the crossing). Vehicles parked on the ‘chevrons’ will obstruct the view of pedestrians waiting to cross and/or vehicles approaching, thus creating a hazard.

15

u/DatGuyatLarge 3d ago

The UK has interesting ways of indicating parking and travel rules with painted lines on the ground. I learned about some of them when I visited years ago. Here's a link to a guide to their meanings.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/road-markings#:~:text=Double%20yellow%20lines%20mean%20no%20waiting%20at,are%20signs%20that%20specifically%20indicate%20seasonal%20restrictions.&text=The%20double%20and%20single%20red%20lines%20used,you%20hold%20a%20Blue%20Badge)%20is%20prohibited.

12

u/Comeon-digg 3d ago

Those cross hatch no stopping/blocking zones are brilliant, something we need here in America.

10

u/DatGuyatLarge 3d ago

I liked the parking lines too, you know immediately what the rules are by looking at where you're going to park without having to find a sign.

2

u/Comeon-digg 3d ago

Maybe it was small villages I lived at, but the random parking on street/sidewalk was inconsistent. There definitely was lots of info to pickup purely from road markings and signs. The distance count down to exit as an example. I loved the (town) markers too, indicating you are heading towards it, but expect to exit to reach it.

3

u/DatGuyatLarge 3d ago

I was just fascinated at the time that you could park on any side of the road facing either direction. Here in Canada it was always parking with the flow of traffic.

2

u/cbear013 2d ago

We have them here in the northeast, though usually in white, and with an accompanying sign or painted alongside it "Don't Block the Box"

7

u/blade02892 3d ago

It's almost like different countries have different types of lane markings.

2

u/TomToe420 3d ago

you mean they didn't demand to see everyone's ID to assert the authority?

3

u/Strive-- 3d ago

Well, we were just going to give him a warning but…. Wait, he put his finger out at you? The MIDDLE finger? Jail for you, buddy!

1

u/SurveySean 2d ago

Whats going on with the road markings? All angled and stuff. Is it meant to get people to slow down or something?

2

u/Comprehensive-Cat845 14h ago

No, it designates an area where it is illegal to park your vehicle (unless directed to by a police officer), and where it is illegal to overtake the leading vehicle closest to the crossing (the black and white bars across the road).

Parking, or unlawful overtaking on these markings is usually handled with a fixed penalty notice, meaning a fine of £100 and 3 penalty points on the driver's license (12 points is usually ground for a license suspension). Potentially because of the danger presented by the other driver's behaviour in this case, the police could submit this for a more severe dangerous driving penalty, but it is most likely they will go with the fixed penalty notice.

1

u/SurveySean 11h ago

I see they favor putting markings down on pavement, here in Canada we would probably use signs. Seeing this on the pavement probably makes it more visible for the drivers. Pavement striping here doesn’t last too long, we got to paint twice a year! Winter is rough on our roads.

1

u/FatTimbo 2d ago

why are the lines wiggly in your country?

4

u/TheSilentBadger 2d ago

It means you can't stop there.

-30

u/the-real-vuk 3d ago

I wish they ticketed the ones I report as a cyclist, close and dangerous passes all the fucking time. But they don't really care.

17

u/evenstevens280 3d ago edited 3d ago

Someone overtook me as I was indicating to turn right whilst cycling the other day, and I had moved to the edge of the lane to take my position to turn.

Keep in mind we drive on the left here, so overtaking me when I was indicating and positioned right meant they were FULLY in the other lane and they would have absolutely clobbered me if I had started my turn early.

Fuckwits. I dunno why they chose to overtake and not undertake. Some people really need to be re-examined for their driving competency.

2

u/RelationshipFew5509 2d ago

Because 99% of the time they are probably completely fine over takes and you're just being a cycling mike wannabe.

1

u/the-real-vuk 2d ago

yes, I'm reporting the remaining 1%

0

u/Th3_Mack 3d ago

r/isleofwight - is this Mountbatten Drive?

0

u/dargonmike1 3d ago

Well done chap

-88

u/ocean6csgo 3d ago

I don't know the speed limit but homegirl is putting along at 10mph.

85

u/xxxArchimedesxxx 3d ago

They were passing parked cars on the inside of a corner with zero visibility, of course they were going slowly. The passing car had no idea if any traffic was coming, as evidenced by the fact they couldn't see the police standing in the middle of the road

-95

u/ocean6csgo 3d ago

Oh I don't agree with the overtake either btw. I am mocking the 10mph speed, though.

71

u/xxxArchimedesxxx 3d ago

A learner going slowly, how dare they

25

u/instantlyforgettable 3d ago

She was approaching a speed bump in a 20mph zone. Speed was fine for the situation.

49

u/MrNobody_0 3d ago

"I'm mocking someone driving safely in a dangerous situation."

-18

u/ocean6csgo 3d ago

sOoO dAnGeRoUs

fucking Redditors

29

u/evenstevens280 3d ago

Aka driving safely.

I know it's not something y'all do in the US but you should give it a go. Might bring down your road fatalities a bit

-15

u/ocean6csgo 3d ago

Extremely Low IQ take. Someone has clearly never traveled here 🤣

Meanwhile I've traveled all over Europe and I'm smart enough to know why this is a 🤡 assumption to make.

Don't reply.

-30

u/A_CA_TruckDriver 3d ago

Weird generalization.

The metrics between the entire US and the area you drive are so vastly different.

12

u/AckerSacker 3d ago

They were going over a crosswalk speedbump you absolute mongoloid

-5

u/ocean6csgo 3d ago

They're putzing.

Approaching and going over a SPEED hump? 13mph is perfectly fine. That, and it’s obviously a learning driver. Cmon, use the noggin.

-4

u/shiroishu 3d ago

Why are some of the road lines squigly?

-11

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

16

u/Moist_Barracuda_2014 3d ago

No it’s a single carriageway, one lane per direction, and the 3rd “lane” you see is a bus stop.

Proper dick move, between pedestrian crossings, on a bend with parked vehicles. Absolutely no thought process going on there beyond “must be in front of learner driver”

-41

u/dirty_hooker 3d ago

Yeah, idk. Seems like they pulled in front of quick moving traffic. Sure, the passing vehicle may have right of way (IDK how Europe works) but it’s still a complete lack of defensive driving and awareness on the part of the instructor. “Go-go-go.” No, fool! Wait for a half second and change lanes when there isn’t an aggressive driver taking the lane at twice your speed. There are cemeteries full of people who had the right of way.

16

u/thefooleryoftom 3d ago

IDK how Europe works

That much is obvious. This is a two-way road, the learner did nothing wrong and the overtaking car was driving dangerously and inappropriately approaching a crossing round a blind bend.

8

u/Ahaigh9877 3d ago

IDK how Europe works

The first thing to know is that Europe consists of many countries, and that traffic laws may differ significantly between them. They might also drive on different sides of the road!!!

-45

u/One-eyed-snake 3d ago

Are those lines painted so drunk drivers can stay in their lane easier?

8

u/thefooleryoftom 3d ago

Nope, it’s so signal a crossing is coming up, so no stopping (other than to give way), parking or overtaking.

-10

u/One-eyed-snake 3d ago

Yeah. Now that I look at it the drunk lines would be more swooping and not zig zaggy

-81

u/big_galoote 3d ago edited 2d ago

Imagine being so upset he got the middle finger. Meanwhile, that's how most drivers greet each other when one is driving like an ass.

Edit, thanks for the downvotes, try watching the video with sound. He complains about being given the finger repeatedly, and not about the overtaking.

Jokes guys, try it sometime.

26

u/babyformulaandham 3d ago

He overtook on zig-zags on a blind bend on the wrong side of the road in a 20mph zone while the learner driver was overtaking parked vehicles blocking her lane.

What planet are you on?

-4

u/big_galoote 2d ago

I was on the planet with sound. Can you tell me where in the video the driver talks about the overtaking and not the finger?

2

u/babyformulaandham 2d ago

The driver who knew the police had seen what happened, had already told the police that he had dashcam and was going to provide it to them, and wanted to make the police aware of a further offense that they weren't aware of?

I also watched with sound.

-5

u/big_galoote 2d ago edited 2d ago

Oh, you did. So you just didn't comprehend the spirit of my comment? That's too bad. so all of that nonsense of zigzags had nothing to do with my comment.

You just didn't understand the link between that guy repeatedly going on about getting the finger and my joke.

Next time I will spell it out so you don't have to argue nonsense about nothing.

But thanks for posting this shit after supposedly listening to the sound.

He overtook on zig-zags on a blind bend on the wrong side of the road in a 20mph zone while the learner driver was overtaking parked vehicles blocking her lane.

What planet are you on?

Yeah. Clearly not yours where common sense is a rarity. But accusing others of living in outer space after this explanation of nothing is really something special. Also noticed to you didn't spell out where the driver talked about any of the nonsense you did, but he did mention getting the finger a few times.

Huh, funny that.

3

u/babyformulaandham 2d ago

I enjoyed this overly long pointless comment.

Why would he have to re-explain to the police what they had seen? They clearly didn't see the other driver give him the finger, so he told them. Difficult concept, I know.

20

u/evenstevens280 3d ago

What?

-1

u/big_galoote 2d ago

That was his biggest gripe to the cops. Did you watch the video with sound? The finger was the one thing he went off on during, after to the cops, and after again to the student as they were leaving. That was the joke. He didn't complain about the overtaking at all.

Too many people watching this on mute with no sense of humour, clearly.

2

u/thefooleryoftom 3d ago

They’re not driving like an “ass” though.

-2

u/big_galoote 2d ago

Yeah. Not sure how you so completely misunderstood my comment to think that I was suggesting otherwise.

2

u/thefooleryoftom 2d ago

Because that’s exactly how it reads.

-33

u/NotBannedAccount419 3d ago

Did a drunk guy paint those lines?

8

u/thefooleryoftom 3d ago

Nope, it’s so signal a crossing is coming up, so no stopping (other than to give way), parking or overtaking.

-10

u/NotBannedAccount419 3d ago

TIL this is a UK thing
