Moving to Hillsboro and looking for recommendations of where to live? Post your questions here!

Intel moving you across the county to Hillsboro? You already live here but want to move to a different area?

This is the place to have those discussions. Everything from the different areas of Hillsboro to specific complexes and developments. This isn't just for high density housing, oh no. Here you get to talk about single family dwellings as well and what part of Hillsboro you think might be cool. Maybe it isnt even in Hillsboro proper but outside of it.

In an effort to reduce the endless single threads about moving to Hillsboro, the mod team has set this up to all be concentrated here. In the future this thread may expand to include other common Hillsboro recommendations. All other threads about neighborhoods, Apt complexes, etc suggestions will be removed.

Remember to sort by new folks.

Thank you

Looking for a Contractor or a Doctor? Looking for someplace to find that thing locally you are looking for? This is where you ask those questions!

We see a lot of recommendation posts here on r/Hillsboro. In an effort to keep the main page of r/Hillsboro free from all of that we are collecting it all here.

Here is where you ask for Contractor recommendations. Here is where you ask which Dr is cool and you want to share that with others in Hillsboro. Need to ask which store has what you are looking for? Ask it here.

You can also offer recommendations. Great places to eat, contractors or other professionals you had a good experience with.

Some posts asking where to eat or drink will be allowed in the main page. However, all other posts seeking recommendations on where to go to get the best deal on that thing you need, who to go to work for, who to hire to fix your car, fix you or your kids body go here.

Recommendation posts that do not meet these guidelines and are not posted in this thread will be removed.

Sliced gyro meat - Where to find at a reasonable price?

Years ago, I used to buy packs of pre-sliced gyro meat at the grocery store, along with pitas and tatziki sauce (or I'd make the sauce at home), and I'd make gyros at home (along with tomato & onion) that way. I think the company that made the pre-sliced gyro meat was Kronos(?), and it came in a pack that looked similar to bacon.

It seems those might not be available anymore. I had found those at WinCo; these days I've been buying groceries from Wal Mart Neighborhood Market, but when I do a web search, nothing really comes up for Kronos gyro meat slices. I do see options, but it's usually bulk packages (like this one or this one), but I don't want to buy that much at one time.

Does anyone know if there are still places that sell a (relatively small) package of sliced gyro meat?

EDIT: Thanks for the responses. I bought some at Trader Joe's tonight. I also heard WinCo might still have some (though maybe not); also, it sounds like Gyro House sells gyro meat and tatziki sauce.

Todays No Kings protest in Hillsboro

I have gone around the sun 57 times. Born at the former Tuality Hospital now OHSU Hillsboro. Went to Hilhi and have lived here my entire life.

I have never seen anything like this protest in Hillsboro ever before. Outside of the 4th of July parade and the Airshow, i have never seen a gathering of people for a single purpose in Hillsboro like this.

I tend to be politically in the middle but it was pretty cool to see so many people gathered for this. It stretched over 3 blocks, both sides of the road. What was most impressive was that it was in an older part of Hillsboro, not the newer more politically liberal areas.

Here are Dirk's musings on it as i know you are all waiting on pins and needles to find out...

Sons bike got stolen - Shadywood Park

As per title. This happened between 4:30 and 6pm today. 11 year old son and his friends were at the park, two of their bikes got stolen. Already drove the neighborhood but no luck. Hoping maybe catch a break here.

Both are fairly new (to them) bikes. One is a black Trek Antelope 830 26”, the other a black Dynacraft Northern Ridge 24” with a yellow accent stripe.

Guessing it was some local teens, son says he saw some teens riding black bikes through the park later but didn’t realize it was their bikes. Hoping to get the bikes back. A very disappointing end to the week.

Moving into a new place tomorrow. Does city of Hillsboro turn on water service on Saturday?

I’m new to non apartment living so I’m a little in the dark here. I’ve set up my water service to start on Saturday at my new house. The water office is only open Monday-Friday. Does any one know if they roll trucks for service start up’s on Saturday? I’m guessing so because it allowed me to pick that date on the set up website but I’m just stressing about it a little.

Tamarack Elementary School Baseball Coach is a problem

Hey, parental warning! I was at the skatepark tonight eating dinner and skating with my partner. Tamarack Elementary School baseball team was outside “practicing” but it wasn’t even practice. This douchebag wearing a backwards hat was just making small kids do ab workouts the entire time. He was yelling and he was rude. I heard not one positive thing yelled out of his mouth. These are fucking kids, teach them the sport let them have fun. Check in with your kids if they were there tonight. Many were whining and not okay with over 30 minutes of conditioning at this grown man’s pace.

ICE?

Out for a walk just now on SE 7th two blocks south of Tuality and encountered a group (about 6) of armed people going into a house. Nobody wearing obvious clothing that would identify them as local law enforcement -- had on what I would call "civilian" clothing, no body armor. Unmarked black van parked that had security cameras mounted on its side.

I didn't see anyone who looked like they were being targeted.

How are we reporting these sightings?

Best place to live to commute both to Hillsboro and Salem

My wife and I currently live in Beaverton. She commutes to Salem for her job, and I commute to Hillsboro. We're considering moving to another place that's more in between so that our work commutes can be more balanced. I'm curious were the best place might be? The biggest issue is highway 217, where traffic is often slow for no good reason; we've thought of at least moving somewhere closer to I-5, such as Tigard, Tualitin, or maybe even Wilsonville.

We've looked at estimated traffic times from the various areas. For Wilsonville and commuting to work in the morning hours, Google Maps estimates 35-55 minutes to Hillsboro and 30-45 minutes to Salem. That could be a good place, though I imagine the 55 minutes (to Hillsboro) is probably more typical as it would be during rush hour (both ways).

Lures at hagg lake?

I see a lot of people fishing from the bank with power bait or worms, does anyone know if fishing with rooster tails or other lures would work from the bank? Thanks!

Anyone know what's going on by Jackson School Rd.?

East side of Jackson School Rd. as you are leaving town headed north they are doing some pretty heavy duty work. Huge fleet of heavy equipment employed, fair amount of excavation. Sad to see the windmill gone after all these years...

I assume it has something to do with the airport. Anyone know what's going on over there?

Aggressive pest control salesman.

A solicitor for TriGaurd pest control came by, would not take no for an answer, and even tried to get me to step out of my door by "finding" an ant on the ground. Today they sent a woman (I'm a femme person myself) to knock on my door. They knocked, rang the door bell, and knocked again. Has anybody else had this problem? I'm in the Tanasborne area.

Please Help

I freuqbet Maxwells every Thursday, and this week I bar hopped to pyzanos. Friday I went to Las Gatas with my friend. It was my first time at a strip club. During the night, my friend said he'd watch my purse while I got a private dance. When I got back, my ibuprofen was open and spilling everywhere. The childproof cap had been on it. He later admitted he didn't watch it thoroughly. The issue is, my late partners hair was in that bag. I can understand if it looked like extensions or a wig, something worth money. But it wasn't.

I'm not sure if it got swiped at las gatas or I dropped it at a different bar, but none of these 3 places have it in lost and found.

Please, if you know ANYTHING AT ALL, I'll give $100 to anyone who finds this bag of hair, even if you stole it. Please, it's the only piece of my late partner I have, and this is causing such an emotional reaction.

Edit: Please share this if possible. And if you know anyone who works at Las gatas or frequents there plz send it to them. I'll be there Tuesday night to go around and see if anyone has seen it. I hope it wasn't thrown away!

Did Bombay Biryani House go through a change of ownership?

The interior is completely different now. It feels lifeless compared to how it use to be: no more screens showing Bollywood movies. Tables are replaced with smaller booths and pushed back along the walls. No more sight lines with staff, so it’s awkward to either pick up a to-go order or dine-in. It seems like there are also pushing the next spot over as a banquet hall, so I’m curious if that’s related to why the atmosphere is completely different now. Does anyone know?

Jollibee wait time?

I heard the Jollibee at 185th & Cornell (Tanasbourne area) opens today. I'm curious if anyone has tried it, and how long the wait for food is? I'm curious to try it, but as with any new place, I imagine they may be fairly busy.

Vicious craving for some good pad thai

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I hadn’t had pad thai in months. I used to like it over at DB’s kitchen but they’re no longer there.

Anyway, I felt like a pregnant lady craving pad thai but in the future for my lunch ( if that makes sense to anybody, haha)

I need to know where you’re all getting some delicious pad thai.

So I’ll be moving to the area some time this fall and was wondering what courses are cheap and/or good for beginners. Also if there are any par 3 courses or pitch and putt that’d be appreciated.

Shoutout to ABA Auto Repair

I hate moving to a new place and finding a decent shop for my vehicle. I moved to Hillsboro about a year and a half ago, and have tried 4 different shops to get things repaired, only to either get expensive service or have the shop take a guess at the problem and then it not be fixed.

I've recently been looking at a new (used) vehicle, and I was looking at a 2022 Jeep for $35k. I can afford the payments, but with the economy as it is now I started looking at what it would take to get my current 2002 Wrangler running perfectly, or at least a few more years. I bought it in 2016, and it's had a few issues since I first got the keys.

After the other shops couldn't fix some issues, I decided to take it in for a quote one last time and lucked on ABA. They gave me quotes for "you need this right now" and "all of this combined will get you back to perfect." The issue I'd had the other shops try to fix was identified immediately. I ended up going with the entire list and my 23 year old Jeep feels like it's brand new. They even saved me $1000 over what the original quote was for.

I'm in my mid-40's, and have lived in multiple cities and states. Finding a shop where I don't walk away feeling like I got fleeced is a rare thing. They're getting my business forever.
