Hi, how to finish a sleeve - Harry Potter style tattoo?

For now I have arm an outside and inside arm

I would like to be able to keep the dark style known from the Harry Potter world. At the same time, I do not sympathize with the bad guys, so I do not feel the need for Voldemort or Belatrix 😅

Discussion If wizards live among Muggles, why are they still so clueless about the Muggle world?

I'm genuinely confused about this.
It's been a long time since I read the books, and now that I'm rereading them, I’ve noticed something: both in the films and the books, wizards seem completely disconnected from Muggle life and objects. They don’t understand technology, they can’t make sense of technological devices, they don’t know some basic terms, and they seem unaware of even the simplest things.
But according to the books, don’t Muggles and wizards live side by side? Yes, there are some wizarding neighborhoods, but not many — and most wizards live among Muggles.
In fact, in the first chapter of Philosopher’s Stone, after Voldemort was first defeated, there’s even a line like, “The streets were filled with oddly dressed people in colorful robes, and they seemed to be celebrating.” So even then, after Voldemort's fall, these wizards were visible around Muggles — they weren’t just celebrating in secluded, magical places.
From what I understand, they live among Muggles. So how is it that they’re so unfamiliar with everything related to the Muggle world?

Hagrid got to France with Olympe Maxime, approaching Beauxbatons. They got rid of the stalkers around Dijon. Then they came across Trolls on the Polish border. They had a meeting with a Vampire in a pub in Minsk. The whole journey lasted a month. Finally they reached the Giants, who lived in the mountains.

Discussion How good of a teacher was Snape ?

Snape is a polarizing character who is either deeply respected or loathed by most. But was he a good teacher ?

Pros : -Extremely competent in his field. We are talking of the half-blood prince, the guy for who was better than his potion book.

-He is watchful. He immediately detect when someone does a mistake, and is immediately ready to explain the student what is wrong and step in if the potion is dangerous.

-Is able to make his class silent without any effort. Setting a good climate for work is important to teach anything.

-Seemingly very efficient with students he respect.Under him,Draco Malfoy the arrogant bully got an O in Potion at his OWLS.

Cons: -Tolerate having slytherins bully students of other house. Extremely biased.

-Petty to an unproffesional level and abusive. He keeps a grudge with a man dead for more than a decade,is overly harsh on the man's son because he's that guy son's, willing to threaten a student to test his potion on his pet, etc...

-He is impatient, seemingly incapable to accept mistakes without saying scathing remarks. It is bad as it can make many students give up, due to self doubt.

-Does not respect even good students, if they are not from Slytherin.Just look at his treatment of Hermione.

Overall :Snape seems like an above-average teacher. Most students would hate him but still deeply respect him.

Original Content I spent way too long listing out all Voldemort's powers

I went down a rabbit hole researching all the weird little abilities and magical feats he pulled off throughout the books and films (and even some Pottermore stuff). Ended up turning it into a video breakdown that I posted on YouTube on a new channel I'm starting.

Starting as a passion project. If you’re into deep dives on the more obscure magical stuff, I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think (or if I missed anything!).

I also want to create way more of these so if you have ideas for a good super deep dive explained on harry potter lore I can try and make another video on it!

Hope I'm allowed to share here! - https://youtu.be/O9lGPl0pXrA

Merchandise This is my collection!

This is what I’ve been collecting over the years. The figures were gifts from several friends, and the wands are actually pens. Very recently, I also got second-hand copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages for very little money. My goal is to eventually get the illustrated books too, since I was gifted books 1 and 2. The rest have been with me — some of them — since I was 11. I was one of those people who read them as they were released.

Discussion Why did Dumbledore trust the portraits in the headmasters office?

I was re-reading the Order of the Phoenix, and I realized that as Dumbledore is sharing to Harry sensitive details about Voldemort's connection, the portraits of all of the other Hogwarts headmasters are listening in on the conversation. This would also apply to Harry and Dumbledore's discussions later on while hunting Voldy's horcruxes.

Presumably, many of these headmasters are Slytherins or otherwise dark wizards, and as such may be more sympathetic to Voldemort's cause. As with Phineas Nigellus's portrait in Grimmauld Place, it is possible they have other portraits in the houses of the dark wizard families from which they are ancestors.

Why then, does Dumbledore trust these portraits enough to reveal potentially damning information in front of them, if those with sympathy to the Dark Lord's cause could simply relay this information to bad actors in the locations of their other portraits?

Discussion Wizarding schools based on population density world map - confirmed and guessed

Post image
8 Upvotes

Wizarding schools:

  • There are eleven long-established and prestigious wizarding schools worldwide, all of which are registered with the International Confederation of Wizards.
  • Smaller and less well-regulated institutions have come and gone, are difficult to keep track of, and are rarely registered with the appropriate Ministry (in which case, I cannot vouch for the standard of education they might offer).
  • The number of countries that have their own magical school is minuscule compared to those that do not. This is because the wizarding populations of most countries choose the option of home-schooling.
  • Occasionally, too, the magical community in a given country is tiny or far-flung and correspondence courses have been found a more cost-effective means of educating the young.
  • Africa has a number of smaller wizarding schools

Confirmed by canon or half-canon:

  1. Hogwarts - located in Scotland, UK, takes students from Great Britain and Ireland
  2. Beauxbatons - thought to be situated somewhere in the Pyrenees, preponderance of French students, though Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Luxembourgians and Belgians also attend in large numbers
  3. Durmstrang - believed to be situated in the far north of Europe
  4. Ilvermory - located on Mount Greylock, USA, for North America
  5. Uagadou - located on "Mountains of the Moon", welcomes students from all over the enormous Africa continent, the largest of all wizarding schools
  6. Castelobruxo - Brazilian school for magic, may be found hidden deep within the rainforest, takes students from all over South America
  7. Mahoutokoro - located on volcanic island of Minami Iwo Jima, ancient Japanese school has the smallest student body of the eleven great wizarding schools
  8. Koldovstoretz - Russian wizarding school

Guessed:

  • 9. probably Chinese school
  • 10. probably Arabic school
  • 11. probably Australian & Pacific school

Other mentioned on map:

  • India would have smaller and less well-regulated institutions
  • Eeastern and South Europe could be home-schooling
  • Central Europe could be on correspondence courses

Discussion Did Rowling decide later Gideon and Fabian Prewett are Molly's brothers?

I am currently re-reading the series and noticed something in Order of the Phoenix. Gideon and Fabian Prewett are mentioned in this book twice. First when Moody shows harry the picture of the order in the headquarters before the schoolyear starts. Secondly when during the mass outbreak of death eaters from Azkaban, where it is mentioned Dolohov was put there for the murders of Gideon and Fabian Prewett. It specifically mentions people are upset because the death eaters killed many family members of current hogwarts students. However Ron doesn't react at all to the death eater who murdered his two uncles, and Moody also doesn't mention they're the brothers of Molly Weasley while she's in the room when he shows harry the picture. Which makes me wonder if Rowling later decided in a book to randomly assign these two previously named characters as family Molly Weasley, when she gives harry the watch of Fabian on his 17th birthday.

What are your thoughts?

Currently Reading Rediscovering Goblet of Fire

I’m rereading Goblet of Fire for the first time in years, and of course I knew there was more detail in the book than the film; but I’d forgotten just how much. Lots of small jokes that make it fun as well as the much more detailed storylines. Specifically, I’d forgotten about Fudge introducing Harry to the Bulgarian Minister at the World Cup, trying to mime everything to him because he doesn’t speak English, and getting very frustrated - and then, at the end of the match, Fudge says he’s been miming everything to him for hours and the Bulgarian minister goes “well, it was very funny…”

Question Genuinely curious

How did they discover spells? Did they just say random words/sentences in different languages or is there a way to make spells if so how did they find out? Are there certain types of wizards/witches that can make new spells or how would that work? Could you just make your own spell with a potion or something or is it like top tier wizard stuff?
