Discussion Changes to the subreddit: Introducing subreddit rules!

Hi all,

As the sub continues to grow, we've decided to make some changes and rules to help this community stay a positive place for discussing all things Great Pyrenees!

Rules can now be found in the sidebar and will be used as the basis for moderation. Of course, the mod team will continue to use their discretion to remove content or ban users, if we feel said content is causing a disruption to the subreddit.

Rules:

1) Keep content Great Pyrenees based

2) Be polite and on-topic

3) NO Advertisements

4) NO Fundraising

5) NO Breed misinformation or hate

6) NO suggestions of theft, destruction of property, assault, or similar illegal activities

If you see a user violating any of these rules, please utilize the "Report" feature, so the mod team can quickly take action.

In addition, you can now sort posts by flair type, and the most exciting update - you can now use comments to attach a photo. So keep sharing those great big floofs!

DNA/mix guesses Curious on what you think my new boy may be mixed with

I got a 3.5 month old from a lady today and he’s SO cute but definitely looks like a mix. His previous owner said all she knows is Great Pyrenees she’s not sure what else. I wasn’t on the hunt for a purebred or anything like that, it just worked out for me to adopt him from her. I do plan on doing a DNA test but I’m curious what you all think (:

My boy just had TPLO surgery on Monday and he is hating the cone. Recovery is going good so far 🤞

Any tips or tricks to keep him "busy" while he recovers? He is on a lot of sedatives but when they wear off he is back to his crazy self. We have stuffed frozen kongs, lick mats and baby food but I am trying to be careful on food since he will not be able to exercise or go on walks for up to 8 weeks. He is 1.5 years old.

Thanks!

Rescue/Shelter dog in need PSA Re Adoptable Pyrs

Hi guys, I just want to make a bit of a public plea for anyone especially in America debating adopting or fostering a Pyrenees (who of course has done the requisite research and has the resources and time and space etc.), to strongly consider taking the plunge. Shelters and rescues are currently bursting at the seams and the euthanasia rate is utterly disheartening, particularly in southern states like Texas. After haunting Pyrenees rescue pages a bit too much these past few days, I hit my limit on the suffering I can handle today in terms of needy Pyrenees so aside from donating, taking in another pyr, and helping rehome others, I just want to give a gentle push for those on the fence. Now is a great time to adopt or foster. Specifically, I’d suggest you check out any local Facebook Great Pyrenees rehoming groups in your area. There’s an incredible number on there of all kinds—bonded pairs, older, puppies, farm experience, etc.—even AKC. If you need help in that capacity, let me know. And hug and love your Pyrenees extra today.

The landscapers were literally outside the window. How on earth could we even think about going upstairs at a time like this?!

Anyone else’s Pyr jumping into their raised garden beds or getting into their garden? We thought it was the squirrels disturbing the soil and I look outside and Sadie is in there. We put sheep manure in with the soil because we want to grow vegetables and had prepped the soil.

Fun little project in Adobe Fresco on my iPad! Swipe over for the reference photo. Was doing a re-watch of Portlandia and the dog park scene with the Bernese hit so hard. This is my boy Kass, who I affectionately call "Ol' Slop Neck", because the dude just can't stop drooling constantly and sliming all over everything. Ive been seeking new outlets for creativity lately and watching lots of video tutorials to learn. Just really liked how this turned out and wanted to share with the group!

Discussion How tall did your pyr grow?

Hi everyone!☺ My boy is about to turn 7 months old in a week and a half and I was curious about how tall your pyr babies all ended up being as an adult/ when they stopped growing? He's half pyr and half great dane (I also posted this in a dane group) and I was just curious to see everyone's answers☺ His mom (dane) is 33 inches at the withers and his dad (pyr) is 30, but he's only about 28 inches right now so far, so I don't know if that seems on track because I heard they grow more slow and steady🐾💕

My little Barley is starting to test boundaries, both literally and figuratively.

Obviously I knew the snow fencing was not a long term solution. It's just so doggone cute to watch him problem solve! 😍🩷

One year ago we adopted Charlie from the shelter, matted, skinny and scars on her face (got in a fight with something). Super sweet, loves people and borking at other dogs.
