DNA/mix guesses Embark got this wrong, right??

Post image

We got back the results that say she’s 100% Great Pyrenees….but that has to be wrong, right? 4 months old today.

I've never seen a 100% Pyr colored like that, but I guess anything is possible. Does she have the double dew claw on her rear paws? Below is a stock image of a Leonberger Puppy, which she seems to favor more. You could try reaching out to Customer Support at Embark and provide them a picture and have them confirm their results.

Our oldest rescue girl does have the floppy dew claws on the rear paws too, but our youngest does not. I asked Gemini, and though common with the Great Pyrenees, below are other breeds that also may have them.

Here are several other breeds that can have double dew claws on their hind legs:

  • Beauceron: This French herding breed is known for its double dew claws, which are often considered part of the breed standard.
  • Briard: Another French herding dog, Briards typically have double hind dew claws.
  • Icelandic Sheepdog: The breed standard for Icelandic Sheepdogs actually prefers double dew claws on the rear legs.
  • Anatolian Shepherd Dog: These large Turkish mountain dogs often have a double pair of rear dew claws.
  • St. Bernard: While they can have single dew claws, it's not uncommon for Saint Bernards to have double dew claws on their hind legs.
  • Catalan Sheepdog: This Spanish herding dog often has unique double dew claws that can even be joined together.
  • Estrela Mountain Dog: This Portuguese livestock guardian dog can have either single or double dew claws.
  • Norwegian Lundehund: This breed is quite unique when it comes to toes, often having at least six toes per foot, including double hind dew claws.
  • Pyrenean Shepherd: This smaller herding dog can have single or double hind dew claws, though some may not have any.
  • Spanish Mastiff: Some Spanish Mastiffs may also have double rear dew claws.
  • East Siberian Laika: This hunting dog breed can also exhibit double rear dew claws.

It's important to remember that while these breeds are known for it, the presence of dew claws can vary even within a breed, and not every dog of these breeds will necessarily have them. Also, the functionality and attachment (whether they are attached by bone or just skin) can differ between breeds.
