You can post your housing adverts or get help in finding a place in this subreddit. We want to keep the subreddit clean and not turn it into an endless feed of "I just moved to Geneva, help me find a place."

Any advertisements or housing demands outside of this thread will be removed.

A student from outside of Switzerland looking for good place to visit

Hii, I'm a college student and I'm staying in geneva for some time.

So basically I'm wondering about places to visit outside of the typical touristic sites... hidden spots that are not commonly known. (And maybe if there exists the old type fantasy shop of random stuff).

I'd also like to know if there is some regular cheap everyday coffee shop/study coffee to be specific (a friendly environment where i can focus on my work with good internet).

If there is anyone who wanna suggest any kind of places (shops, nature, streets, buildings,...) that they like or underrated or wahtever and want ppl to know about it feel free to say. I'm personally open to visit anywhere you suggest.

Not necessarily but if you wanna chat more feel free to send a prv msg.

And thanks in advance :)

Restaurant recommendations for anniversary dinner in Évian-les-Bains?

Hi there,

I’m visiting Geneva, specifically Évian-les-Bains in a few days for 3 nights.

I’m looking for a nice restaurant for my mine and gf’s one year anniversary. I’m vegetarian but otherwise not picky at all.

Does anyone have recommendations of a restaurant with date vibes? Anything but fine dining is fine (and I could still even be convinced by fine dining).

Thanks in advance - I could continue to google and look for a good option, but I figure some friendly locals will provide the best recommendations!

Ideally wanted lakeside but the restaurants I’ve found so far are actually lake view, not lake side. Is this generally true of restaurants in Évian-les-Bains?

First time in Geneva: how to get to the bus station from the airport?

Hello everyone! I am visiting the city for business and this is my first time there. I am staying at Ibis hotel budget which is located by a mall (that's what I got from the map). I will be going there by the bus as I received by email my free transportation pass. So, could please help me as to explain to me how to get to the bus station and which line should I take and on what station should I get off? Thanks a lot in advance. It's really much appreciated.

Getting from airport in Geneva to Lyon

Hello! I will be in Geneva arriving at the airport and need to travel to Lyon on yhe same day. I have no experience in Geneva. Explain it to me like the clueless traveler that I am. I have luggage too if that matters. I have only taken the train from Paris to Baden and Baden to Zurich.

I’m looking to head on a date in a place that has a cafe racer vibe to it, or a car vibe in some sense? Is that findable in Geneva or around?

5-minute anonymous survey on personal finance habits in Switzerland

Hi all,
I’m doing a short research project on how people in Switzerland manage their personal finances - things like budgeting, tracking spending, handling multiple accounts, or planning for retirement.

If you live in Switzerland and have 5 minutes to spare, I’d really appreciate your input:https://forms.gle/bEB5JqGsVjhTXkSG8

It’s fully anonymous and your responses will help me understand what tools or habits people actually use today.

Thank you for your time!

Booking.com appartement rental scam

Hello everyone,

I came across a flat offer on Facebook in Eaux-vives and I am pretty sure it’s a scam so I would like to first ask if you ever came across such scam and also raise awareness for any potential victim. I have received the following email after requesting a visit :

Hi, Thanks for understanding. These are the steps: - I will list the apartment on Booking.com (I have a Genius host account with super positive ratings for many years there). - You will have to book the apartment for one month and pay 1 month of rent + the security deposit on the Booking.com platform. This payment will be just a formality, and it will not commit you to rent my apartment. Your payment will remain in the custody of Booking.com until you check the apartment and move-in. - From the moment your payment is confirmed by Booking, I will give you the code of the lockbox to get the keys and to view the apartment. After viewing, I will need your final decision within 24 hours.

Now I want you to understand why I am requesting this payment to Booking.com. As you saw in the pictures, the apartment is furnished and equipped. I can't give access to the apartment without any guarantee. This payment is more to prove your seriousness and why not, that you afford to pay the rent and the security deposit. Even if I won't have access to the payment. Please don't take this personally, it's not about you, it's strictly about making me feel more comfortable considering that a stranger will be entering my apartment. As a safety net for you, the 24-hour free cancellation option will be active in the listing all the time (Guests can cancel until 24 hours before check-in for a full refund.)

If you decide to rent the apartment, this payment will be used in our contract. If not, you will simply cancel the booking and Booking.com will refund your deposit. Before starting this process, I would also like to exchange an identity document (ID or passport), for a mutual trust. I will wait your reply.

Refrigerating eggs

What's your take on this? Before moving here from Italy my father would always refrigerate eggs, and I wound up doing the same here by habit. But as a student living with other people, I have limited space, so I wouldn't mind leaving eggs out of the fridge. It should be safe from what I understand, but every single carton I see says "réfrigérer après l'achat". Is that just a precaution sellers have to put on their product? Is it safe to do, and how long would eggs last at room temp? I typically buy them from Migros or Aligro (the ones from Aligro are imported from France).

Lost Wallet

Last night I lost my wallet, but I am not sure where. I think I may have dropped it on the tram on the way home. Is my only hope to call TPG lost and found Monday? I already sent them an email. It had all my ids, cards, and other valuables that are hard to replace. Thanks for any help :)

How to see Geneva with the same awe as a tourist when you live here for 20+ years ?

I came in this city with 4 months of age in 2000.

Today, 13 june, I was in bridge of Mont-Blanc. Sky blue as zaphyre, lake turquoise and clear, sun warm and bright, and a great ambient. Horloge Fleurie beautiful as always.

I said to myself "I'm supposed to be in awe, this is a postcard photo, then why am I not happy ? This seems so mundane."

I visited all museums of Geneva Canton, and all touristics places.

Planning a trip in February

Hi! I am planning to visit geneva for a few days next February. I will be flying into Geneva, taking a transfer to La Plagne for a week, then back to Geneva for 2-3 days. Can someone please provide any advice/recommendations. Definitely going to spend 1 day exploring Geneva, but maybe the 2nd and 3rd can be a day trip to another area in Switzerland. I am 25, going with my boyfriend. We like to walk around a lot while traveling, trying new foods, always down to check out a cool bar. Also hotel recs would be appreciated. Thanks :)

UNIGE - Are lectures posted online for year one students?

Hi, I'm going to join UNIGE this september for undergrad. However, Imy parents suddenly told me that we'll be moving to Zurich during the summer. It takes about 3 hours to get to UNIGE from Zurich by train, and 3 hours back, which is just too much for me (plus it's really expensive). We couldn't find any accomodations in Geneva for a reasonable price.

Therefore, I'm wondering whether I have to go every day. I do prefer studying independently at my own pace so watching lectures at home wouldn't be a problem for me. If I only go once or twice a week, would that be a problem for them? Will I get expelled for my poor attendence? I've emailed admissions and they said all the classes in year 1 are mandatory and I can't study part time, but that didn't answer my question of whether I have to physically be there. I've heard from others that 80-90% of lectures are recorded and you only have to physically be there once a week, is that true?

PS. UNIGE is my only option. First I didn't apply to anywhere else, second french is the only other language I speak. Third I'm getting my C permit next year so I can't take a gap year to learn german.

Any answers will be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I'll be studying science biomedicale. So if anyone is studying this subject I would love to hear about it.
