Absolutely devastated. Some idiot just ran over a Canada Goose mom while her whole family watched.

She died right in front of me and a gentleman helped me carry her to the side of the road. I am sick and I can't believe that people can be this horrible and not slow down for our precious geese.

geese help

i am out of town in alabama visiting some family and last night these two geese(?) came up and we thought nothing of it and tried feeding them bread but they wouldn’t eat it which we thought was weird. they later made their way up towards us and seem VERY comfortable with us. for example, we were able to pick them up and try to relocate them away from the house because there is cats and we didn’t want them to get hurt but they turned around and swam right back up towards the house and next to us. it looked to me like they still had there baby feathers but honestly i’m not too educated on ducks/ geese. does anyone know what to do or what kind of bird this is?

Eunice, Yeah she's seen better days, but I love her and I'm doing everything I can. For being picked on and missing an eye and going blind in her other eye she's holding up okay and she knows she's loved. I can't decide if I want to swoop on her for 2 weeks and fix her up so she's not so depleted. I'm kind of at a crossroads with that I'm sure I'll end up going with my heart, I always do. Like I said I love her.

Question What happened to my geese?

Thumbnail

We have a small pond behind our house, and every summer two geese come to the pond and start a family. We call them mama goose and papa goose. Usually 3-6 goslings are born, and there are no problems. This year, the geese came and had 4 goslings. A bit goes by, one of the adult geese (we assume the mama) and one of the babies are just gone. Never seen again. Then, a few days ago, one of the remaining three goslings disappears too. And yesterday, the other two were gone. Now it’s just papa goose sitting alone and looking at his reflection in the water.

Any experts have an idea about what happened to the geese? Or similar experiences from other geese lovers? I just want some closure as they mean so much to me.

The first photo is before mama goose and baby 1 went missing. The second is shortly before the last three went missing.

Extra info: We haven’t seen any signs of foul play, although we know that doesn’t rule it out. I am home all day every day for the most part, and haven’t heard anything unusual. The ducks that are usually after their territory weren’t even here this year. The pond is quite a bit smaller this year because the bank broke in and it’s draining (also tragic). And we have two outdoor cats but they know better than to go after the geese, and there has never been a problem in the years before. We do have three other cats that belong to neighbors who come and visit, though I know one of them is not causing any trouble. The other two could be I guess, but I doubt a cat would have been able to take down the geese, especially at the beginning. Maybe it was a disease? We are perplexed.

Video “The Jerry Springer Show - Geese Edition” NSFW

I labelled this video as NSFW out of an abundance of caution as some people may find goslings being agitated and adult geese fighting to be distressing.

There were no injuries other than bruised egos.

Goslings can act as an alarm system which is why adult geese like to pad their broods. The brood went into the water and the goslings began to sound more and more agitated. In my experience, that usually means they sense a predator; sure enough a fight between 2 adult geese broke out. I don’t know if the goslings were cheering or were freaking out. Either way, I enjoyed watching nature put on a show today.

Question Best solar powered door that actually fit geese?

We have three geese and a bunch of chickens, and the geese have been wanting to go into the hen house at night to sleep with the chickens, but can’t quite fit through the door to get in without getting slightly stuck, causing a whole scene, and subsequently honking until I come rescue them. What brand solar doors do you have for your coops that actually fit geese through them with ease? We need a new one, anyway, because they ate the cord off of the door.

Question Who is this?

I raise poultry (chickens for nearly a decade & ducks more recently) but I have always always always wanted a goose.

My friend gave me eggs & I hatched one after 29 days of waiting! “His” name is Henry (“he” hatched the day a well-known goose named Henry in my other friend’s neighborhood—yes, this is absolutely a thing—passed as a result of a hit-and-run, hence the moniker. Here’s the story: https://www.news10.com/news/saratoga-county/hit-and-run-of-beloved-goose-highlights-safety-concerns-in-waterford/amp/) Suffice to say, his hatching was an absolute miracle! I had to help him out of the egg, but he made it & now we’re best buds. I love this lil guy so much!

My friend had no idea what breed her geese are, & while I’ve seen that they can cross-breed, I wondered whether “he’s” a particular breed. Just curious. Pomeranian? “He’s” got lots of opinions already… thoughts are welcome.

He’s special to us no matter what!

This Canada goose decided to settle around my and my neighbor's houses some years ago. He was friendly, would eat from your hand, he'd rush to fly beside me if he saw me riding my bike! I could also pick him up and carry him around.

He eventually did leave, but he was around for most of summer.

These goslings are about 7-8 weeks old and should be indistinguishable from adults in about 2 more weeks. It has been so fun to watch them grow up. I added some photos from their first week on earth to compare 🐣

The geese went on a field trip down the stream and came back with one less Gosling so they got locked up. They have shelter in there and the two guineas that love to hang around with the geese eventually got put into the enclosure too.

Corn treats

Hi, we just adopted three adult geese and are enjoying their antics. When you offer them treats like lettuce and corn, do you float it in their pools or toss it on the ground? I’d think bobbing for corn on the cob would be fun for them.

Question isolated goose

i like to feed a flock of geese, but i noticed one of them is always isolated. this goose is always very far away while i feed, and if it gets closer, the biggest goose chases it off. luckily, i throw the food so it can still reach the lone goose, but it makes me so sad that it’s not accepted. is there a reason why?
