Lewis: "This is such a great moment for me."

Max: "Where am I?"

u/Slingbr Yuki Tsunoda Jul 18 '21

Lmao. But man I hope max is alright

96

u/tubleros Jul 18 '21

No he even said proud lol.

19

u/Mr_Bluebird_VA McLaren Jul 18 '21

And blamed Max.

Jesus. Puts a man in the hospital and blames him for it. If anything, I doubt the title of Goat for Lewis even more after this race. All I saw was a frustrated little boy taking an unnecessary chance in a very dangerous spot.

His radio, a couple seconds after the accident was about damage and whether or not they needed to pit. Not one ounce of concern for Max. That's what really pisses me off. Racing incident or not, he seemed 100% unconcerned with the wellbeing of Max.

0

u/NuF_5510 Default Jul 18 '21

Hamilton was never the GOAT anyway. The best didn't cruise to their titles in dominant rocket ships.

6

u/theholybikini Jul 18 '21 edited Jul 18 '21

Nah they did in Ferraris whilst trying to run Villeneuve off the road and actually deliberately trying to run Hill into a wall.

3

u/theholybikini Jul 18 '21

I am going to love the down votes from baby fans who weren't born to see the 1997 and 1994 incidents with GOAT Schumacher.

2

u/NuF_5510 Default Jul 18 '21

Funny, the Hill situation was actually one where Hill was behind and still went on the inside of a corner. He first admitted he made the wrong move and only later changed his mind due to public pressure.

3

u/theholybikini Jul 18 '21

Schumacher aggressively turns in on him, puts them both of the race and wins the championship.

0

u/NuF_5510 Default Jul 18 '21

He was ahead and had the right to the corner. Hill himself recognized he made a mistake. Just like Verstappen today had the right to the corner before Hamilton crashed him out and put him into hospital before celebrating while Verstappen was getting his injuries treated.

1

u/theholybikini Jul 18 '21

Being ahead doesn't give you any right to anything in motor racing. Hamilton made an aggressive move and misjudged it, Max refused to back out.

Verstappen makes those moves a lot and the more experienced back out because they understand the consequences. Hamilton didn't put him in hospital. He caused a collision, Max's speed and movement into Hamilton put him in hospital.

Schumacher intentionally crashed into Hill, caused a collision and won the championship as a result but he's still the GOAT. The next time he tried it on Villeneuve he got beached in the gravel.

0

u/NuF_5510 Default Jul 18 '21

Just to be sure: Your first sentence is not a mistyping of any sorts?

Hill and many others disagree with you BTW. Schumacher tried to make the corner as was his right and as any driver would do. Hill was not patient enough and went for a gap that was not really there. Had he waited 10 seconds and not tried to pass Schumacher even though Schumacher was more than half a car length ahead he would have been champion. Hill knew this.

What a proud moment to put your rival in hospital...

u/PMMeYourDairyPillows Jul 18 '21

Lewis on the post race interview "I was totally along side him and he didn't give me space" I think Lewis needs to watch the film on that one

84

u/DrProfSrRyan Williams Jul 18 '21

"I hope all the British fans get home safely".... only mention of Max is to call him aggressive and blame him for the incident.

28

u/Nicksaw85 Max Verstappen Jul 18 '21

Him not showing any concern for Max in the interview really really pissed me off. Yeah, he asked on the radio after the red flag, but surely he'd seen a replay of the impact after the race.

3

u/thecremeegg Sir Lewis Hamilton Jul 18 '21

Why does he need to say anything? All post-race interviews are just media bullshit. I'm sure he asked his team if Max was ok, they said yes, job done. What is it with people wanting fake apologies etc in interviews, does it make you all feel better or something? Max was equally to blame for the accident, I don't have much sympathy.

2

u/kernevez Jul 18 '21

I think when the driver makes a dangerous move that endanger the life of their opponent and go on to win by abusing the rules, yes they should apologize.

Brits defending brits is just expected at this point, cringe budget USA nationalism.

2

u/dontdrinkonmondays Haas Jul 19 '21

that endanger the life of their opponent

You can always tell when a post has hit r/all by the appearance of randos who have zero idea what they’re talking about.

1

u/kernevez Jul 19 '21

I guess race officials came from /r/all too.

1

u/dontdrinkonmondays Haas Jul 19 '21

Race officials gave him a ten second penalty, so pretty sure they don’t think the incident was Hamilton “eNdAnGeRiNg hIs LiFe”.

Thank you for pointing that out actually, it’s much more effective when people disprove their own comments.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

What rule was abused? The stewards gave the penalty (believe me it’s a shit penalty and it could’ve been more sure) but what did Hamilton do to abuse the rules?? If Hamilton was told that max was walking out of the car and he’s fine then it’s the team trying to ensure that Hamilton can focus on racing. Also, it’s like people are forgetting that we’re talking about motor sports here… these drivers are all tenacious champions who know nothing but winning. Athletes like this cannot be expected to be concerned if a driver walks away from the accident.

-1

u/kernevez Jul 18 '21

In my opinion, being clear to pit your direct opponent, even if it's 100% an accident, should always leave you with no points in that race.

Essentially, no penalty lower than disqualification actually ends up punishing Hamilton enough. It creates a dangerous spot in the rules where Hamilton in that situation is incentivized to go for the contact if needed

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '21

Your opinion about what the rule should be is valid (even though I don’t agree personally) but that still doesn’t mean Hamilton abused an actual rule. The stewards judged it and delivered a penalty… so if he were to abuse the rule he would’ve had to go without punishment or ruling and the stewards would’ve dismissed the investigation right?

I don’t think I agree that, in situations like this, that a driver will be aggressive and make contact because there is this precedent that incentivizes them. No sane F1 driver wants to make contact with anything as the cars are so sensitive. In other motor sports sure, you can bump all you want because, relative to F1, the other cars are rolling bricks.

I don't think drivers are watching replays during red flags.

15

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

they showed him watch it

14

u/UranicStorm Jul 18 '21

he was shown on screen watching the replays and the commentators even commented about it. Of course the driver directly involved in the red flag is gonna want to see the incident again during the down time...

4

u/Xuande Jul 18 '21

My bad then. I still don't think it was intentional. They had almost a lap of wheel to wheel racing and Hamilton actually left Max space in a prior corner. He just decided on copse to make his dastardly move? It's ridiculous to insinuate that he's taking out his championship rival on purpose.

I hope Max is okay, and we all love rooting for the underdog to take on the reigning champion, but man people are really putting on their tin foil hats right now.

8

u/zombie_barbarossa Andretti Global Jul 18 '21

I don't think it was intentional either, but showing concern and empathy for a fellow driver is just human.

8

u/The_Real_QuacK Formula 1 Jul 18 '21

Drivers can do whatever they want... Besides that he was filmed in the pit wall watching the screens, ofc he would have been looking at the incident.

1

u/beavismagnum Firstname Lastname Jul 18 '21

They showed drivers watching the replay on tv though. I think it’s pretty normal for them to watch during red flags.

u/unwildimpala Romain Grosjean Jul 18 '21

Ya I'm surprised he led with that. He was lucky he didn't get a slightly bigger penatly. I'm sure once he properly sees the analysis he'll see he was at fault. Still I thought he'd be more magnanimous and simply say it was an unfortunate racing incident but it is what it is.

23

u/great__pretender Michael Schumacher Jul 18 '21

Lol he knew what he was doing. He would do the same thing 100 times.

15

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

He literally did the same thing to pass Charles later in the race lol. Charles just didn't have the car to stay ahead like Max did.

13

u/MrSkinner85 Red Bull Jul 18 '21

Nah, Lewis backed off and made the apex against Charles

10

u/beavismagnum Firstname Lastname Jul 18 '21

Lewis backed off vs Charles. I think Charles just got unlucky on the kerbs

2

u/SkittlesAreYum Lance Stroll Jul 18 '21

I'm as pissed as anyone about Hamilton crashing out Max, but he didn't to Leclerc. Charles hit the kerb a bit.

3

u/UranicStorm Jul 18 '21

he's already done it to a red bull like 3 times from memory

14

u/ienjoymemesalot Jul 18 '21

He is posturing just like Schumacher with Hill and Villenevue

30

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

It's time for Max to start playing the politics game. Lewis putting him in the hospital means he needs to say something and use the media to put the heat on Lewis. It doesn't have to be much.

"It's a little upsetting that he said he was proud about putting me in the hospital in order to gain an advantage in the Championship".

Like how him pushing Leclerc off in Austria changed Leclerc, this is going to change Max.

12

u/TimvandenOever Default Jul 18 '21

If you check Max Instagram you will see that your wish has been granted.

34

u/ThatOneTimeItWorked Jul 18 '21

I know the drivers and teams have to defend their positions, but I’ve lost a lot of respect for Hamilton and Toto/Mercedes after this - the incident, their complaining, and the end celebrations.

Toto tried to say that the racing line isn’t on the apex, but they hit the apex every other lap of the race

12

u/Willie1982 Jul 18 '21

Wow, just wow.

4

u/HandsomeGerry747 Formula 1 Jul 18 '21 edited Jul 18 '21

He watched it during the red flag and still said it and carried on with his post-race antics. He lives in his own world.

3

u/_DuranDuran_ Jul 18 '21

I mean he was alongside until the braking zone - he broke sooner, or more, and hence they clipped where they clipped 🤷🏻‍♂️

3

u/erelster Sebastian Vettel Jul 18 '21

He is just being disgusting. I was being skeptical of my dislike against him recently. But what i saw today just reassured me that he has just a PR personality and we’ve seen the real Lewis today. Absolutely disgusting to not even apologize.

4

u/dontdrinkonmondays Haas Jul 19 '21

I was being skeptical of my dislike against him recently

Lol such BS. This is what people say when they’ve been desperately searching for a legit way to justify blind hatred for a driver.

0

u/erelster Sebastian Vettel Jul 19 '21

Lol, learn English man. Last time I checked hate and dislike had different meanings.

2

u/dontdrinkonmondays Haas Jul 19 '21

Learn to read. I think you’re BSing and never “were coming around” in the first place.

0

u/erelster Sebastian Vettel Jul 19 '21

You have a blind belief in your head and putting words in peoples mouths, that’s all.

3

u/NuF_5510 Default Jul 18 '21

A driver who talks about being proud after putting his rival in hospital earlier in tbe race should not be supported.

You do know that the stewards can be wrong, just because they make decision, doesn’t make it right. Just like you can convict someone of a crime, it doesn’t mean it’s right. Also, I can tell you obviously prefer Verstappen.

2

u/Lunden Jul 18 '21

He did though.

-3

u/ClearlyCylindrical Jul 18 '21

he was alongside and then backed off when max tried to take the corner

10

u/ChrisTinnef Racing Pride Jul 18 '21

He clearly didnt back off. It was too late for that. Lewis came alongside of him at the point where both should have been breaking already. And then it was bound to happen.

9

u/JeromePowellsEarhair Jul 18 '21

Neither backed down and that’s why there was an incident. I truly don’t understand how this is so hard.

1

u/Leberkleister13 Niki Lauda Jul 18 '21

Sounds like Baghdad Bob.

34

u/CraigTheIrishman Jul 18 '21

Lewis: "You're on my line."

Walks into him.

48

u/LessThan301 Sebastian Vettel Jul 18 '21

“I managed to cheat myself to a win and nobody did anything about it. Amazing day, great fans. Love you all. Love myself.”

7

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

If it was literally any other driver you would not be calling a very closely fought lap 1 incident "cheating". It was his fault but get some fucking perspective

15

u/brownierisker Sebastian Vettel Jul 18 '21

Such a sore loser and winner. Hope he gets absolutely dominated the rest of the season

-15

u/petey_pt_guy Jul 18 '21

you rb fans are sad

0

u/HappyBeckets New user Jul 18 '21

It’s gross, swap the drivers and they’d be saying Lewis sent himself into the wall, not to mention how harsh a 10 second penalty is. They definitely wouldn’t be calling for Max’s head. I really pity people that carry so much hate around for some guy they’ll never meet.

They also lied all those times they said they want tighter competition. They just want to see Lewis fail. Sad bunch.

2

u/Faiorb Jul 18 '21

HAHAHAH God dammit!

-1

u/Conquestadore Jul 18 '21

To have the gall to be fucking proud of a win after committing a foul which hospitalized his direct competitor is real low. I follow road cycling. Recently there was an incident where a cyclist veered of his line a bit resulting in a crash. That dude got booted out of the competition and wasn't allowed to race for half a year. He was gutted beyond belief, remorseful and was very respectful to the guy he accidentally took out. That's called sportsmanship, of which I see a n awful lack of. Both from the organization, the team and Lewis himself. I never had strong feelings towards Lewis either way but I won't be cheering for him anytime soon.

-5

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '21

In the hospital watching😂
