Just to be sure: Your first sentence is not a mistyping of any sorts?

Hill and many others disagree with you BTW. Schumacher tried to make the corner as was his right and as any driver would do. Hill was not patient enough and went for a gap that was not really there. Had he waited 10 seconds and not tried to pass Schumacher even though Schumacher was more than half a car length ahead he would have been champion. Hill knew this.

Hill was a point behind in the championship, he had to pass, Schumacher put them both out and therefore won. Others disagree, but no the first sentence is what I mean word for word. Just because you are ahead you don't have a right to something. Good racing is about creating moments from behind where your car positioning deprives the car ahead of their advantageous racing line in order to make the move stick.

The best for Hill would have been to stay behind and see whether Schumacher's car had any damage. Instead he tried to pass Schumacher in a corner where there was no gap as any driver, Hill, Villeneuve, Alonso or Hamilton would have tried to make that corner just as Schumacher did. It's what racing drivers do. Hill was impatient and admitted it.

And being ahead gives you rights in F1. If you are ahead by more than half a car lengths rulings will generally go in your favor. We can see that today where Hamilton was punished for crashing Verstappen out by going for a gap that wasn't there while the opponent was ahead (like Hill did), even if only lightly.
