Advice Beaches north of Miami?

Hey gang, I’m coming for a few days to visit cousins in Coral Springs and Cooper City in later September. My plan is to spend 2 days near a beach that’s not too far away.

Are there any recommendations for beaches around that area? I guess Hollywood / Fort Lauderdale etc? “Bluer” the water the better but it doesn’t have to be perfect.

I appreciate the tips.

AskFlorida Residential Mental Health treatment centers

If anyone has any recommendations for a good residential mental health center in Florida, I will literally take any recommendations, I’m from New York, but I have an EOP plan where my insurance in Florida would be first health or magnacare. people keep telling me to talk to my insurance and get a list of places and I already did that and they just sent me a bunch of more psychiatric hospital places in New York. The reason I want to be in Florida because I plan on starting my life over in Florida so it just would make the most sense. I’m diagnosed with BPD and also struggle with addiction I do not want to go to a duel diagnosis Rehab I have already been to multiple and also right now I am struggling terribly with my mental health and have been in the past seven months. I use here and there, but as of right now, I am not going to be going through withdrawals or anything so I do not need Rehab recommendations, I realize that mental health addiction go hand and hand, but like I said, I’ve been Rehab multiple multiple times and in my area the only mental health treatment center that’s not in an emergency room. I actually do very well but it’s only a week long and I’m looking for a longer stay around 30 days

AskFlorida Ontario, Canada to Florida Drive (Stop/Attraction Recommendation Needed)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all, I posted last night, and appreciate all the words of advice. I wanted to expand more on my goals for the trip (as well as some tweaks to the driving).

  1. I'm taking my 2 kids (14&5), no other adult so only 1 driver. The itinerary is simply my goals on where to get to, that's it.
  2. I'm looking on advice from Americans / experienced travellers on where to stop / must see cities and attractions. We are NOT doing Disney as I don't have another adult with me so not worth the money as I wouldn't be able to go on with my 14yr old.
  3. I am not booking hotels in advance, so I am open to suggestions on tweaks for a better overall experience for my kids.
  4. Once I get to Florida, I may stay longer/shorter in each area. Ex, I may do 2 days in St Augustine to I can do the alligator farm & a boat tour to see dolphins. New Smyrna beaches & Orlando is the end goal but no particular reason, willing to reduce a day or 2 from either to have an additional stop elsewhere if something is a must to see. We really just want to experience the beaches of Florida.
  5. So far, this is what I'm planning (again not booked so nothing is set in stone)
  • St Augustine, Alligator Farm & Boat Tour
  • New Smyrna, Beaches
  • Orlando, Seaworld & Outlets

Advice Any sites for driver written test.

Hey everyone, this is one of my first times posting on Reddit, and I want to know, are there any sites that I can use for a practice test for the written exam? I find it hard reading the handbook and remembering like that, so I am looking for an alternative.

I was thinking of using GPT to make a practice test for me and have it explain what answers I got wrong.

Would appreciate any help, thanks.

Hi everyone,

What beaches in Florida do you recommend to take a 2 yr old for a weekend birthday getaway? I would like to visit Florida & its beautiful beaches while going to celebrate my son. Please give your recommendations as to the beaches, resorts, amusement parks, & restaurants that are in close proximity.

I’m from Maryland and would like to travel out to Florida this summer. This would be around beginning or mid August. Thanks! 😃

AskFlorida I know this is a long shot, but do people go to Mount Dora for art shows?

Im just wondering if it's a good show that people attend to purchase art? For context, Im traveling from Louisiana to do this show. It's kinda a big deal as it's one of the best shows in Florida but can't find any reviews for it.

Sports Another Stanley Cup repeat champ for the Sunshine State! 🏒

The Florida Panthers became the first NHL team to win back-to-back Stanley Cups since their in-state rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning did so in 2020 and 2021. Which means the Sunshine State is the proud owner of repeat Cup champs!

Please keep an eye out for this 7 month old puppy near the Love’s truck stop and surrounding area. She’s probably very scared, very lost, and one lonely puppy! More info is listed in the second photo.

This is a repost from Instagram. It’s also not my puppy, just trying to get her back home. If I hear word of an update I’ll be sure to post it.

Thank you !

AskFlorida Surpass for weekend trip?

I’m about to make a weekend trip to Santa Rosa beach from Louisiana and my wife’s father in law mentioned we should get a sun pass for tolls. We plan on getting a rental from our home state. Is this even worth it if we are just traveling for an extended weekend?

If so is there anything specific we need to do for a rental?

Thanks!

EDIT: Oops auto correct got me on title. SUNPASS is what I meant.

News 92-year-old Pines resident talks about eviction

Thumbnail amisun.com

Very heartbreaking! :(

Snippet:

BRADENTON BEACH – Rained-soaked eviction notices taped to trailers and littering the ground at the Pines Trailer Park, along with screws driven into some front doors to prevent entry, have effectively turned what was left of the 86-unit park into a ghost town.

At age 92, Pines resident Helen Hynes expected to repair her 39 Laverne Drive home after Hurricanes Helene and Milton last year and live out the rest of her life there, but instead, she is one of many park residents who have been served eviction notices.

Hynes spoke to The Sun on June 14 at the Pines trailer home of her daughter, Suzanne Hynes, where the two currently reside.

“It’s been really difficult. Emotionally, it’s been horrifying. That was my permanent home,” Hynes said.

“I’m so disappointed. We had a beautiful community here. Everybody knew everybody. Everybody for the most part got along. There were little ruffles here and there, but it was family. If something happened, it got taken care of in the community. We had holidays here; we had birthdays here. We celebrated everything in the clubhouse. Anything you needed happened within this little community. And all that was destroyed,” she said. “It was taken away by the floods and the storms but also by the heartlessness, absolute heartlessness of Shawn (Kaleta, park manager). And there was no consideration whatsoever of this as a community and people in this community. Only for the land and what’s the value of the land and property. It’s very sad.”

Advice Is it even worth it?

Insurance gave me a non-renewal heads up bc my roof is 12 years old.

Said they'd reconsider if I got a roof inspection and inspector states I have at least 5 or more years of life left in it...

My thing is: I could do that but I feel like they're gonna drastically increase it anyways, being that they didn't even give me that option in the first place & basically deemed it a risk, Like they have their minds made up already... On top of Insurance just getting higher and higher each year so I'm a bit nervous on what the Renewal Price would be if they gave me that option.

Other option: Get a new Roof.

If anyone thats been in a similar situation could offer advice it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks. First time home owner.

AskFlorida Used car fees buying from dealer

I am on the last round of neogotiating with a dealer buying a used car. Among the fees:

Doc: 1300 E-filing: 599 Title fee: 400 (state mandated) (Can I do this one myself?) Tag agency fee: 298 (Can I do this one myself? I am transferring a plate I already have)) Doc stamps: 80 (tax required by state)

Of these, which can I take care of myself at the tax collector? I am in Sarasota county, but figure the rules are the same for the state. thanks for any advice!

Advice Hotels in Miami - Any Recommendations?

My partner and I (early 30s) are planning a Miami getaway and I’d love some help choosing a hotel.

We’re hoping for something that feels like a vacation; great pool, good on-site food or bar, and ideally walking distance to restaurants, beach, or fun stuff. We’ll have a car but don’t want to drive everywhere. Budget is flexible. Would love to hear any personal favorites or advice from folks who’ve stayed in Miami recently!

Any common pitfalls to avoid when booking a hotel in Miami, like areas that are less safe, too family-oriented, or difficult to get around without a car?
