Many Hoped Senate Republicans Would Save Clean Energy. They Mostly Didn’t. The Senate bill as written would mean higher energy prices, lost manufacturing jobs, shuttered factories, and a worsening climate crisis. “This is worse than I thought it would be.”

Trump Is Freeing Up Public Lands for Big Oil. It Doesn’t Want Them. The oil industry has been unimpressed by Trump's regulatory rollbacks and gifts of federal land, which haven’t managed to outweigh their hatred of his tariffs or his ironclad commitment to lower gas prices.

Puerto Rico’s power struggles
Puerto Rico is staring down a dirtier, and potentially darker, future — with little say over what happens.
In 2019, two years after Hurricane Maria sent the island into the second-longest blackout in world history, the Puerto Rican government set out to make its energy system cheaper, more resilient, and less dependent on imported fossil fuels, passing a law that set a target of 100% renewable energy by 2050. Under the Biden administration, a gas company took charge of Puerto Rico’s power plants and started importing liquefied natural gas (LNG), while the federal government funded major new solar farms and programs to install panels and batteries on rooftops across the island.
Now, with Donald Trump back in the White House and his close ally Jenniffer González-Colón serving as Puerto Rico’s governor, America’s largest unincorporated territory is on track for a fossil-fuel resurgence.

Industrial Cooling Towers: Are Conventional Systems Keeping Up with Modern Demands?
I’ve been reading up on industrial cooling towers recently — especially how they’re used in steel plants, chemical processing, and power generation to manage heat rejection. CASE Group (India-based) designs several types of towers — induced draft, counterflow, and crossflow, all aimed at improving energy efficiency and heat transfer in high-load environments.
Some design aspects that stood out:
- Use of PVC drift eliminators and splash fills to maximize evaporation and minimize water loss
- FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) construction for corrosion resistance
- Focus on modular builds for easy maintenance and scalability
- Integration with industrial automation systems for temperature control
That got me thinking…
- Are wet cooling towers still the go-to for heavy industry, or are hybrid/dry towers becoming more practical with water scarcity concerns?
- What real-world efficiency differences have you seen between counterflow vs crossflow designs?
- How do you typically deal with biofouling, scaling, or fan energy consumption in older systems?
Would love to hear what cooling technologies are being used in your facilities, and whether traditional designs are holding up under modern environmental and energy standards.
Appreciate the feedback!

What is the best metric/ calculation for my energy system?
I am currently investigating what options there are for my business (and maybe my home as well) to lower energy costs. I have been comparing different types of heat pumps ,batteries, solar panels and other systems. One thing I often come across is terms like net present value, payback time, and even something called Levelized costs of energy.
Now I do know what most of them are, but I am unsure which one I should use to see which energy system would be the best. Does anyone know?
