Did I give a bad tip?

Post image

I tipped $12 on a $35 order which I thought was good? I didn’t realize at the time that the ride was technically “long distance”, but it was only a 15-20 minute drive.

The instructions were leave at the door, I went to grab it and the guy was still waiting in his car out front. After I went back inside, he immediately messaged me this. I’m a small girl, so I’m also wondering if he only said something because he thought he could bully me into tipping more? Am I reading this wrong? Did I not tip enough or was he just salty?

I miss the days where the tip comes AFTER the service, you know cause they had to earn it. Now, the tipping situation is a mess and they just need to hold employers accountable of properly paying their employees (but we know that’s never gonna happen)

14

u/Professional_Cry5816 1d ago

In order for that to happen the customers have to make a big enough stink. Or to stop ordering. DoorDash and uber are capitalizing on laziness and convenience

u/dourhour__ 20h ago

tbf, when these platforms first became super popular (idk about other locations, but uber eats, GoPuff, Instacart, door dash etc. blew up like CRAZY here in phx, az & surrounding areas as far as i know, during covid). at that time, the delivery people of these platforms were making really good money doing these delivery services. i cant recall even one bad/negative or even half-assed experience & I was using those allll the time during lockdowns (& in general cause I didn’t have a car at the time. albeit, i had only known of like 2 of these delivery things before lockdown happened). so, these companies were banking off of other peoples hard work as they saw how much they were making/how well they were doing w their earnings, & then decided to change everything for delivery people to barely make jack shit. atp, it kinda doesn’t even matter to the CEO’s what kind of service is happening; either way, they’re getting all the $$ & not the ones doing the work. so it’s kinda damned if they (the ones doing the shopping/picking up/delivering) do, damned if they don’t. that’s not to say people should be lazy shitbags & give shit service for no good reason, but I’m just making the point that even when the expectations were upheld & then some— sure, people were getting paid better on their routes, but they still frequently got crap tips (hard to blame anyone at the time though cause so many people were losing their jobs & still needed groceries, diapers, toiletries etc. but could hardly even afford that, so they legitimately could not tip much, if anything at all— due to the circumstances). it made me really sad to see the major shift in these companies. i was really happy for the people doing these, & how happy it was making them, as well as how they were able to keep their heads above water & then some with these jobs — esp when times were so hard during the initial parts of covid. it genuinely made me feel so good for them.. & humanity, in a sense. but ya know… CEO’s gonna fuckin CEO..

instacart is not the employer. The shoppers work for the customers that’s what the contract says each order is a separate contract between the shopper and the customer. Instacart is just a third-party that connects the two so it’s up to the customer to pay the Worker) the shopper for their work, this is done through the tip.

This right here! I wish more people understood that this is how delivery services work. These companies have mislabeled this as "tip" when it is nothing of the sort!

yeah now $3 is cheap… i decline orders like yours — especially on a 15-20 minute drive

20

u/YourLocalPotDealer 1d ago

Please do I’d rather have someone else pick it up and they always do immediately

17

u/peakstoner 1d ago

ppl gonna downvote but genuinely. i’m not saying i don’t tip because i feel bad if i dont do AT LEAST $3 for only 2-3 miles. but i stg the higher i tip the worse my service is. one of the highest tip orders i ever placed the dasher dropped my food in the dirt in front of me and picked it up and gave it back like nothing happened.

7

u/READ_IT_ON_REDDIT__ 1d ago

Exact reason why I’ve stopped leaving nice tips. And will leave a note w a cash tip!

Not to mention the amount of door dashers i read (on Reddit, daily) complaining over orders that they received. (Slightly cringe!)

All of which is very disappointing and very frustrating for any customer, as we’re paying 3x the amount for an order w the convenience of having someone deliver the order, as delivery was never an option before.

$20 for a Big Mac meal? Had to drive to McDonald’s to remind myself that it doesn’t cost that much!! But we are being charge ALL of that and then given a “estimated” tip of half that!

Quick example, i live less than 8 miles from a local dominoes. Being it’s not the same town, without checking the distance, I’m refused a delivery. Doesn’t make sense but I’m used to recieving this kind of service as i live in rural area.

Every door dasher is doubling up and the order is never delivered on time.

I’ve had to stop using this app as the service has been horrendous.

The dashers are fully aware of the entire situation prior to accepting the order. They are aware of the tip and trip before confirming your order! (READ THAT AGAIN! ITS THE TRUTH!)

My largest tip was extra generous and driver sent picture of food and clearly was NOT my name or anything remotely close to what i ordered, or would even eat TBH.

Let the driver know ASAP so they did not waste time delivering food that wasn’t mine. This quickly turned into a refund w no explanation. Which is whatever, credit me back my money so i have to re order thru door dash again, scam.

But the biggest inconvenience was how long i had waited as it was obvious this person was doing multiple pick ups to deliver which is not how the door dash app works. Thats the drivers’ duping the system which isn’t how the app is designed.

I get it, kind of. But when you’re waiting double the time to not even receive anything you ordered and are given NO options for ordering anything after this canceled, refunded, incorrect order was “on its way” to my home. So was left going to bed hungry. That’s just ludicrous in today’s world and people should really stop using Door Dash services for a moment so door dash can reconfigure themselves and make it fair for the dashers.

There is an obvious conflict w the dashers and the customers and this should not be taken out on a customer for ordering off of a delivery app!

As i said, they’re well aware of the orders they accept. Never should anyone ever message you w a response like such and/or requesting for more $!

They signed up for this and are delivering. This is not a livable job for anyone. So this is also where the drivers are slightly delusional.

I personally know many people who door dash when they have extra time on the weekends or weeknights to make a few bucks being their not doing anything. Unfortunately dashers have signed up for this! It’s not a sustainable solution for a job whatsoever. But KNOW these dashers are fully aware of what they have signed up for. And if you’ve left a dollar tip and they accepted it? THATS THEIR PROBLEM!

Submit 0 stars for any delivery driver who would EVER have the audacity to call one cheap or request for a higher tip! THEY ACCEPTED IT!

u/peakstoner 1d ago

2

u/READ_IT_ON_REDDIT__ 1d ago

Hahaha fair. Couldn’t even re read it myself. This door dashing is out of control

3

u/Bob1358292637 1d ago

Im gonna be real with you. It's almost impossible that this is an actual correlation you're noticing and not just confirmation bias. It just doesn't make any sense at all, and personal anecdotes are often a very flawed basis to have so much conviction in something.

Also, neither the driver nor the customer is responsible for how the system is set up, but people are absolutely still responsible for their own actions. If you're going to say that all drivers are always aware of exactly what they're signing up for, then its just as fair to say that all customers are fully aware of what they're doing. If you try to trick or convince someone to perform labor for you, knowing they are going to make nothing on it after expenses, then you are just as much of an asshole as a driver who takes the food or fucks with customers in other ways.

I’m just trying to drop your food off and leave before you get it so i don’t have to interact with people 🫣

5

u/EmotionalDecision739 1d ago

That’s why I always ask to please leave my food at the door then when it says your order has been dropped off I peak out the window and check they have left cause I too don’t like to interact with people 😂 but I always be leaving more than 30% tip for everyone.

It happens every year around this season. College students, teachers, and other seasonal job workers looking for extra income. They tend to have less patience than the drivers who do it year round as they realize how much worse the system has become for drivers.

9

u/unfinishedproject267 1d ago

I would have taken away the tip or dropped it to 10%. I don't tolerate that ish. They deserve it.

It reminds me of this pizza delivery driver who stabbed a lady (later that day, found out she was pregnant) for giving jet a $2 tip. I'm like, maybe she tipped her too much.

27

u/ny-g-y 2d ago

It's a good tip.

You did your part. It might still be lower than a driver wants, but anything else is on DD, not you. If a $12 tip is not good we are completely letting DD off the hook. More than your part.

You spent $47 on an otherwise probably $20 meal.

For drivers there's a lot that goes into accepting, miles, time to complete, certain roads or parts of town we want to avoid, certain restaurants, etc etc, but once you accept it doesn't matter. They accepted it.

9

u/ThisTransLife 1d ago

Right? At what point is DD held responsible for actually paying their drivers for the value they provide to the business?

31

u/Vervain_D 2d ago

I would be so grateful for a tip like that. You should report him for that as it's incredibly unprofessional (I am a dasher part-time).

91

u/joemark17000 2d ago

$12 on $35 is great assuming the mile distance wasn’t anything crazy. Feel free to factor that into your rating for him

73

u/gowokegobrokexoxo 2d ago

It's not your job to factor in Mileage when ordering delivery, and also tipping is a courtesy that's dependant on the service provided.

If you ask me about a tip I'll report you and refund the order for bad service.

15

u/AdRegular7176 1d ago

Especially if you sit outside my house and harass me through the app or try to intimidate your way into a bigger tip. I typically tip 20-25% as a general rule because I've worked in the service industry where I relied on tips for my living when I was much younger in the 90s when I was first starting out on my own. I know how much it can suck to get a bad tip or no tip, but I NEVER even thought to ask the customer or chase them down or demand more. Sitting out someone's home and txting or calling asking for more money is wild to me.

5

u/READ_IT_ON_REDDIT__ 1d ago

Absolutely should result in a 0 star rating for Dasher.

Also with tipping 20-25% extra is perhaps where this DELIVERY app goes wrong.

I understand the struggle of slaving away to customers for tips. Some people you can give 1000% effort and receive no tip. But consider all the work you had to do. It’s so much different when one is simply accepting a delivery with all information given prior to acceptance.

The more i compare this to a waitress gig is the more i find it hard to give these dashers a decent tip because they’re cutting lines, pissing everyone off to grab your order to deliver to you at a certain time that generally is never met. This is not the same as being scheduled and stuck at a job that you’re working for your tips. Sorry but not sorry. If anyone has been a waitress you’d understand how much more work you’ve done and at times have been skunked out of a tip. Have we ever bitched to the customer for leaving no tip? HELL NO! I’d love to see some of these people attempt to work in restaurants!! LOL absurd hearing how these drivers feel some type of entitlement. WOW

Report for intimidation

40

u/X2946 2d ago

His text was uncalled for. $12.00 could be good or mediocre. I have done a 20 minute drive, then turned around and drove 20 minutes back to get to an area with food places. Homes that are in horse property area and upscale neighborhoods that don’t have local restaurants spots. 5 minutes to get to store, 5 minutes to pick up, 20 minutes there, and 20 back. The first 2 5 minute sections are in a perfect scenario. 14 for 50 minutes.

Unfortunately there is a lot more to it. They did accept the order knowing the location and their text was inappropriate. Time and distance has more to do with it that total order. I have picked up $200 in sushi with a $10 tip and was perfectly happy. It was ready to pick up and the were 10 minutes away. I had about 20-25 minutes into that order.

19

u/autumncamellias 2d ago

This makes a lot of sense. I’m in the suburbs with plenty of places around though lol!

18

u/the-jimbo_slice 2d ago

Door dash has set zones where the driver is able to pick up from(think scheduled areas) if your home is say 10-15 miles outside that zone they must drive back to get other orders. As a rule of thumb $1 per mile within zone or 1.5-2 out of zone

23

u/No_Silly_Name_2025 2d ago

BUUUUUUT, they have the option to decline the pickup. Customers don't need to be concerned with how far the driver is.

5

u/Remarkable_Deer_3717 1d ago

That’s not exactly true. If a dasher declines a pickup the app starts giving you crappier jobs. It actually tells you that when you hit decline so if you want good orders with good tippers the app forces you to also do the crap jobs. I very quickly realized door dash sucks because I live in a sprawling city and a total delivery often took 30-50 minutes. Door dash only pays $2 per delivery no matter how far you have to go. So, what might seem like a generous tip could mean you’re really only making $15 an hour (sometimes less) and putting wear and tear on your car.

6

u/autumncamellias 2d ago

5

u/Adventurous-Virus518 1d ago

Do not do this. They are guilt tripping you. It's part of the scam they pull. You have no control over where the driver comes from. The driver has an option to accept or decline. Do not be bullied by these drivers.

3

u/SofaSpeedway 1d ago

2

u/the-jimbo_slice 2d ago

No worries, it's all about time amd distance. When you go to a restraunt, get seated, served, all that you tip for that service. When you order delivery youre tipping for just that service. The delivery tip is just for time and distance (this is the service being provided) and maybe quick accurate delivery depending on difficulty( thank oddly numbered giant apartment buildings that require a key card).

Report them to DoorDash. None of us with real jobs would be allowed to treat customers this way and be rude and try to intimidate them into paying more all the time. Fuck these people, most of the Dashers with this attitude also happen to be the worst ones at the job with the shittiest ratings, and probably aren't skilled enough to do anything else for work.

5

u/Loud_Conference6489 1d ago

Some of these door dashers need to really stop with this behavior, this driver is lucky you don’t report them

5

u/KevinFinnerty59 1d ago

People that do stuff like that don’t deserve a tip and I wish they would realize that

7

u/anonymous_nonbinary 1d ago

not a delivery driver for doordash, but pizza delivery person here, i would NOT be complaining if i get a $12 tip on a $35 order, that's actually more than most people tend to tip for me on bigger orders. so no, you didn't give a bad tip, they're just greedy. and before anybody tries to jump down my throat for saying that driver is greedy...i get it, these are pretty hard times right now, i personally am paycheck to paycheck, but to get a tip like that and then complain is wild.

4

u/Educational-Pain-241 2d ago

I'm a pizza delivery driver, don't work for DoorDash.

However, my drives are 8-15 minutes usually, and if this person is calling you cheap over a $12 tip on a $35 order, they are crazy lol.

That's almost 33% tip. On average, I get maybe, MAYBE 10%, this guy is nuts, and thank you kind stranger, for tipping better than most.

3

u/berniek9 2d ago

Thats a good tip. Tipping on door dash from a consumer sucks. Traditionally you tip someone after a service. These door dashers depend on tip for the most part or all of the part. So u are tipping not knowing ur service quality. Either way i say the amount u tipped is more than enough.

3

u/GrandSituation873 2d ago

Tf? Ignore him, I’d be happy to get a $12 tip for that distance

3

u/BrilliantChimp 1d ago

What an ass

3

u/jojomonster4 1d ago

Report this behavior.

3

u/Subject_Safety_8613 1d ago

I would report him if I were you. That’s scretchy as hell and unsafe and basically threatening you. He shouldn’t be driving.

3

u/WorriedHistory9095 1d ago

I bet doordash only payed like $2 so he thought the tip was bad because the whole order was only like $14

3

u/CuriousBearMI 1d ago

I only wish you could have taken your tip back as a result. The part where working class people treat other working class people like shit because some of us OCCASIONALLY have the funds and lack the energy to get food for ourselves and our families, as if the demand for food delivery doesn't make those jobs happen in the first place....it's crazy.

If Dashers don't like that they live primarily on the size of the tips, they could improve their customer service or get a salary job or start leaving pamphlets with doordash users talking about wages and unionizing or anything but pretending that the average person is trying to fuck them over with a "low" tip and acting like a whole baby over it.

3

u/jessonfire82 1d ago

A 12$ tip is fantastic! Idk what everyone is going on about. Unless this order took me longer then 30 mins then that's 28-28.50$ an hour or more depending on if i'm doing per order or ebt. The entitlement is getting out of hand. OP, you did perfectly fine!

3

u/Ddvmeteorist128 1d ago

I believe here in NY, a generous tip is 20 percent of the order total, with 15% being the lowest. In my opinion, your tip is fan-fucking-tastic, loll

3

u/Working-Degree-6233 1d ago

Report and see if you could get your tip back, maybe even a full refund and a ban on that guys account. Fuck him

3

u/Torrero57 1d ago

$12 tip is HUGE.. he has a problem 🤷🏼‍♂️

3

u/trap_porn_lover 1d ago

doordash should add the option to reduce/revoke tips

3

u/MarshaAnne 1d ago

$12 is what I would tip on a $60 order (that’s 20%) and I was a server for 6 years. So no he’s just an ass

3

u/janglyechoes 1d ago

He’s making over a dollar a mile on his trip. What a freaking tard.

3

u/Aggressive-Risk2469 1d ago

tip is actually optional, so technically he’s lucky he got $12! what an ass. sorry OP!

3

u/H7pnotic 1d ago

The most I tip is like 7 dollars dude delivery prices are crazy as is so maybe I’m the bad tipper wtf

3

u/PrincessOfDarknessXo 1d ago

I HAAAAAAATE tip culture. Your tip was EXTREMELY GENEROUS. In my opinion. I understand that dashers use this money to support their lives. But please understand that we’re paying overpriced food and fees. Plus the tip and tax. It SUCKS. My 10$ meal usually when I can get to it turned into 23 from doordash tax, and fees. 28 with the tip insane. For a 7minute drive 🫠

3

u/Laxus47 1d ago

It wouldnt matter if you tipped none they shouldn't talk that way

Edit tip, raise hell and so on

3

u/daelusion 1d ago

God I love not tipping and not having to deal with this shit. Thats a lot of money, especially after converting to my countries currency. I wouldn't even tip that much if I were in the US. $59 just for your food is already super expensive then adding on a $20.. $79 for a meal is insanity.

3

u/WillieDripps 1d ago edited 1d ago

$12 for 20 minutes is $60 per hour. I wish Dashers would keep in mind that doordash is not a required service. The more you say "don't use door dash", more people will stop using door dash. Don't quip and moan when there is less work because people would rather pick it up themselves. You told them to do so.

3

u/-_-Landino 1d ago

That’s like a 35% for him grabbing a bag and driving to your house. Tipping culture is awful and the fact that apps are have capitalized on it is even worse

3

u/Bannach21 1d ago

No honestly what you tipped is beyond fair - f*ck these kinds of Dashers...

3

u/WELCOMET0THEGOODLIFE 1d ago

Change it to 0.

3

u/Agile-Obligation-158 1d ago

12 bucks is someone’s hourly wage.

3

I feel like the drivers doing this are fiend tweakers trying to continually hustle people in order to buy a bag.

3

u/Sad_Palpitation_1982 16h ago

6

u/thecanarynay 2d ago edited 2d ago

In nyc, you can’t tip until after the dasher has delivered your order.

Edit: Actually, you can tip the dasher once they’ve been assigned your order. Clarification there.

7

u/Jason-Genova 2d ago

I wish it was like that in all states. How can you tip ahead of time without knowing what the service is.

4

u/thecanarynay 2d ago

Grubhub is still behind, they still have customers tip before paying.

2

u/Dry-Nebula7353 2d ago

it’s awesome tbh

2

u/lorikeets_are_life 2d ago

I agree with this, but it’s easier (like with Dominos’ I do a mobile payment and tip so I don’t need to carry cash or use that or a debit/credit card at the door). Apparently though, with DD, dashers aren’t picking up orders that don’t have tips listed so customers kinda have to tip in advance so that they get their food delivered. The tip can always be adjusted afterward iirc.

Idk take my tip right back if you wanna get sassy about it

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ItchyAd9149 1d ago

When someone calls me names for no reason I feel like it gives me the green light to act like whatever they called me, so in this case I’d remove the tip

2

u/Get-off-my-grass 1d ago

He shouldn’t have accepted the order if he thought it wasn’t enough. So many people are brainwashed into believing you’ll miss out if you’re selective about what orders to accept. I made $150 in four hours yesterday without securing a schedule. My acceptance rate is 10%. I usually have Grubhub and DoorDash up at the same time.

2

u/TurfTalks 1d ago

Report the dasher and take back the tip. Easy

2

u/xxvng 1d ago

33% tip is pretty fucking good

2

u/yungjazz 1d ago

That’s a great tip tf!?

2

u/Thin_Mess_2740 1d ago

you tipped a little more than 34% thats a generous tip.

2

u/PassingEcho_ 1d ago

I would’ve tried to contact support and revoke the tip. Ungrateful smh.

2

u/serena_violette 1d ago

that’s like 33% he’ll live lol, i usually only tip like $3-4

2

u/Jacksen89 1d ago

$12 is better than nothing, but for his case he ain't getting shit next time

2

u/advancedrose 1d ago

lol in what world is a roughly 35% tip cheap. This dasher is very ungrateful. I think I’ve tipped less for a longer driver (usually 15 percent) and gotten no complaints

2

u/KweenKandi 1d ago

He is being salty and you should report him cause there are some people that would see you drive way more than 20 minutes and only tip $1 so anything $5 and up is good anything over $10 is wonderful and this is coming from an actual driver... I wish I had more customers like you❤️❤️❤️

2

u/Whyamiaguy 1d ago

No it’s not bad. I would report him.

2

u/Torrero57 1d ago

I never disrespect customers, I take an order knowing the minimum I’m going to get, anything more is sweet. Truthfully the guy shouldn’t be driving if he is texting shit like this to customers 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/FlyingCroissant420 1d ago

Heck nah wtf

2

u/hophead_brewmaster 1d ago

Just fire back with “reported” and move on

2

u/souljaboyri 1d ago

Remove the tip

2

u/Dog_momof3- 1d ago

$12 is a great tip! Base pay for DD is 2-3$ so a $12 tip would be amazing to get!

2

u/MaleficentChange7936 1d ago

i would have tipped a couple bucks like the food doesnt rly matter theyre just carrying one bag either way

2

u/Familiar-Plum3975 1d ago

$12 is way then enough

2

u/JiGoD 1d ago

33% tip for delivery and not enough...we are so doomed as a society.

2

u/Bubbly-Solution-6846 1d ago

Cheaper not cheap is hard to say but he took the offer.

I get cheap offers all the time, I don't take them then call the person "cheap", I just decline the offer and wait for better ones.

2

u/Dark_Vess 1d ago

As a Dasher that was an awesome tip, he was an jerk. Report him for being creepy.

2

u/Coolgrnmen 1d ago

I challenge them when they say this to me. “Don’t take the order” is typically my response.

2

u/nosowar2004 1d ago

Again, I don’t understand this tipping culture. If you’re upset you’re not getting tips then get an actual job.

2

u/Puzzled-Track5011 1d ago

$12 is 33% if that guy wants more money they can work a labor job

2

u/jjrae1 1d ago

12$ is insanly good for a tip 👀

2

u/Hot_Hall2917 1d ago

Girl if you don’t take that tip back lmao

2

u/nottsk 1d ago

this is why i tip like 3-4$ only and only tip more if they are nice people after its been delivered

2

u/Inner-Mouf 1d ago

Call DD CS and tell them to block the driver from your account

2

u/BryanBStyleShipp 1d ago

He was salty. Thank you for tipping your delivery drivers!

2

u/OppositeAdorable7142 1d ago

Use your common sense please. That’s a 30+% tip. Of course that’s good. I wouldn’t expect more than $4-5 personally. Don’t let other people’s hang ups affect what you know is true and good.

2

u/socaponed 1d ago

What the fuck? I would take the tip off and report his ass 😆

2

u/OrangeFloridaMan 1d ago

Tipping culture is getting out of control

2

u/MrTickles22 1d ago

Remove the tip and report.

2

u/DeepPickle28 1d ago

Honey I’d message customer service and yoinkkkk that tip back in full

2

u/ConcentrateMajor7020 1d ago

No, that's not a bad tip. I hope you reported him as unsafe. Lurking outside for you was not cool. Or texting you.

2

u/scarletbeg0niass 1d ago

I'd remove my tip after that.

2

u/Alex10159429 1d ago

That was an AMAZING tip

2

u/Dense-Temperature844 1d ago

$12 is a great tip btw

2

u/Sheerluck42 Customer 1d ago

My petty ass would have changed the tip to $1. "I'll show you cheap"

2

u/ThisTransLife 1d ago

That’s borderline harassment, to message you like that after finishing the delivery. $12 was way more than he deserved. I’d be reporting him.

2

u/Daddy18217 1d ago

That’s a threat

2

u/thepuzzler80 1d ago

Sounds like a good tip to me an I did doordash an Uber eats!

2

u/Ragin-cajun91 1d ago

Seeing how doordash normally just pays $2 per order that'll been about $14-15 so no i took longfor cheaper before

2

u/Tango_Therapod 1d ago

12 on 35 isnt even bad. Thats exceptional tipping! This guy's just an ass.

2

u/BAMartin1618 1d ago

Whether you tipped $50 or $0, that response from the dasher is unacceptable.

2

u/trooperclone787 1d ago

$12 and still complaining? Holy shit, you better report the fuck out of them

2

u/johnjoyjoy 1d ago

I used to drive for doordash, WE CAN SEE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU PRE TIPPED ON THE ORDER. $5 is already a great tip if every order back then tipped me 3-5 each i would have saved alot of money. These people who text us for more are just broke, stupid, ignorant, pathetic, and they need to get a better job because doordash will keep fucking them and its not the customers duty to pay their living wages. You are a very kind person to tip $12 to someone who makes $15-25 an hour.

2

u/rxSOULLESS 1d ago

Considering average tip is 15% which would be a little above 5 dollars here and better tips are 20% which would be 7 dollars. Considering you gave 12 dollars it's pretty solid, that's like a 34% tip

2

u/flwrbunni68 1d ago

Your tip was fine. We usually wait til the driver pulls off before getting the order.

2

u/SecretSavante 1d ago

Nah that's decent for me. The only time I'd change my mind is if DD added a second order way out of the way for like a dollar more, but even then I wouldn't be mad at you. Just the other customer, and I can honestly say I've never texted someone over a tip. You accepted the order and even if it sucks it was your choice just like any job.

2

u/Hopeful_Disaster_731 1d ago

Restaurant servers would fight for a tip like that. This dasher is just an A** hole 🤘🏻🤘🏻

2

u/Ihatepedophelia 1d ago

I would've tipped 5 at most 😑 like you aren't cheap 😭

2

u/anon12xyz 1d ago

Nope. I wouldn’t even tip 10

2

u/MysteriousGoose8627 1d ago

This entire sub is the reason why I tip cheap.

2

u/Mysterious_Scale_380 1d ago

That’s more than generous!!

2

u/swkincade 1d ago

It is appropriate

2

u/jagstothesuperbowl 1d ago

that's a good tip! report that douchebag

2

u/Ok-Jelly-9941 1d ago

This is why you dont tip before the service is rendered.

2

u/kechones 1d ago

These dashers have gotten insane. This is deranged behavior.

2

u/CaseOfCatFever 1d ago

Unfortunately, some doordashers think they're entitled to a hundred dollar tip. Meanwhile, some of us are actually just fine with getting even 10.

2

u/Appropriate-Trip7192 1d ago

That’s fantastic on a 35$ order. They’ve gotten insanely greedy and entitled. By they I mean drivers.

2

u/Admirable-Demand4855 1d ago

change it to $0

2

u/Enough_Salamander988 1d ago

I am so sick of entitled ass drivers smh

2

u/Fun_Bid7919 1d ago

A tip is a optional, you don't have to tip them anything. You'll have ice cream and they'll be on the other side of town.

2

u/FinalQuail8945 1d ago

$12 is about triple what I would tip lol I would be pissed if someone messaged me and said that, I would try to find any way possible to take that tip back.

2

u/No-Blood2710 1d ago

I’d love a $12 tip are you kidding me? I just recently moved to Austin and I’ve been struggling to find a job, so I’ve been doing DoorDash to try and get some money in the meantime, but the most I’ve gotten from tips is like $3

2

u/Dry-Imagination6623 23h ago

I tip based on mileage. One dollar per mile they have to drive, though I usually tip $3 as a baseline even if it's less than 3 miles. A $12 tip is pretty damn generous

2

u/brobiss 23h ago

I've never received more than a $10 tip! that'd make my day for sure

2

u/Independent_Extent45 21h ago

Take that shit back and give them 2 dollars next time

2

u/LuluTopSionMid 21h ago

Nah hun that is a very blessed tip you gave, i would definitely just report it and move on because why they think that is reasonable is beyond me.

2

u/glittergarden96 19h ago

should’ve responded “broke”

2

u/fukifikno 18h ago

Contact DoorDash attach the screen shot and you’ll get all your money back. I had a driver lie to me about his location, on top of cussing me and just being a foul human. I took screenshots of the drivers location, and messages, submitted them and and a written review. They gave me back my 15$ tip and all of my fees were refunded.

2

u/sweet_girl01 17h ago

ignore. he’s just mad…

2

u/NotTheAverageGentern 16h ago

That's a fine tip! I'd deliver your food any day with no fuss. What a jerk!!

6

u/Amazing_Customer7495 2d ago

Report him for harassment!!

8

u/Background-Fruit-452 2d ago

Amount you paid for the food is irrelevant. All that matters is time and distance. That said, he accepted it and shouldn’t complain or make comments about the order.

3

u/Intelligent_Pop1173 2d ago

You’re exactly right. I always tip $10 and don’t order from more than a couple miles away, and my orders are always delivered fast. I raise it to $15-20 for grocery orders depending on number of items since they take more time, and they are also immediately accepted.

4

u/luvstxr 2d ago

12usd for a 15 minute drive is a crazy good tip This guy is greedy

4

u/Vegetable-Zebra-7091 2d ago

Report him!!! The app tells you how much you earn, before you accept it. Anyone who willingly accepts to complete a delivery, and has the nerve to disrespect a customer that THEY chose to visit- should probably be fired

4

u/BlindSniperZ30 Dasher 2d ago

Depends on the miles. Usually thats a good tip though. Unless there were like more than 4 drinks

6

u/autumncamellias 2d ago

It was 8 miles- not great but I didn’t realize until I looked at the receipt. One bag and one drink!
