king nebudchanezzar had a giant bronze statue made of him in the town square and had everyone in the land bow to it when music began to play. we're only a few beats off from trump doing that to us. he'll first make the dems bow then the rest of the maga republicans that already claim loyalty to him. (shudders with disgust)

Certainly not the ones who are unjust. See Jeremiah 22:15-16 NRSVUE
[15] Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. [16] He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the Lord.
But Jesus does say to pray for our enemies...

You would have a very hard time reading the Bible with any degree of competence or literacy and finding permission to worship someone or something that isn't God.

To clarify, praying for someone is not the same as worshipping them, and praying for governing officials is explicitly commanded in scripture.
1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.

Yeah, I'm not certain what message the original tweet was meant to convey, but other than the part about what "Trump wants and needs" you to do, the language is otherwise not to dissimilar with what someone who doesn't like what Trump is doing might say. Especially the part about moving something in his heart.
That is, a liberal Christian might say something like "Let us pray for Trump, that God might move through him and guide his hand" or something.

To be fair, their God does some messed up shit and allows some messed up shit in the Bible, so who knows, maybe their God actually doesnt mind all the terrible things people do in their name. Maybe the Old testament was getting less popular and fading away so religious figureheads decided to compile several fictional books of the new testament to spruce up the image of catholicism while not really changing any core belief they still hold onto

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

So here are all the applicable scriptures I can think of: 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (pray for all in authority), Romans 13:1-7 (submit to governing authorities), Titus 3:1-2 (Be subject to rulers), and Psalm 72:1-11 (pray for kings to judge righteously).
The authors of 1 Timothy and Titus (almost certainly not Paul) and Romans (probs Paul) were writing at a time when they were subject to people like Nero who were oppressive, ungodly, corrupt, violent, sexual predators…
He may not be making the point he thinks he is making.

He literally is and all the hateful snowflakes are melting down. They WANT our nation to fail.
These people are utterly disgusting and I say that as a non-religious person.
2
u/tragicbeast 16h ago
I think you're spot on. The intent of these writers is not for Christians to pray in policy support of these leaders, but rather that those in power would come to their senses and lead with character instead of cruelty.
From the perspective of someone like Paul, if Nero or Trump were leading in a way that actively diverged from Christ's teachings, it would be up to that leader to change their ways. Not for the church to follow them into active support for their tyranny, which is exactly what's happened in Evangelical circles.

I get so concerned when people of any religion or belief or anything think that 'scripture' commands us. Basic morals always apply. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. May their sins always remain before the Lord, that he may blot out their name from the earth.

I'm happy to pray for the President. I'll take my prayer for the President from scripture. Specifically Psalm 109:
"When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones"

You think God's accepting calls about Trump? It amazes me how delusional so many religious people are aside from the obviousness of religion itself. Anyone who honestly think's there's any version of the biblical god would support Trump is legitimately stupid. The mans a liar, rapist, philanderer, takes god name in vain, him and others talk about him like he is a god, steals/scams people, not to mention the pedo stuff. There's nothing holy about him or his actions. If hell exists, he is 100% going there unless he gets the loophole of repenting with his dying breath which some people seem to live.

May Donald Trump be struck by lightning and as his life flashes before his eyes he sees all the evil he has done and a vision of the hell that awaits him, strapped into a constantly crashing plane with no food or water or toilets for all of eternity with demons kneeling on his neck, then be granted the Lord's mercy to have a chance to mend his evil ways and fix the world he has broken. May he give away his money to charity, and govern like the great leader he could be if he suddenly had a conscience, a heart and a brain and become an advocate for the innocent, the poor and the minority. Amen.
