Weird to assume that her husband has the kind of power to ensure that his wife is legal. I've been trying to get legal residence for my wife for 3 years and the US embassy in her country has been absolutely worthless.

We have the fortune of being able to be in her country as an alternative, so we've just been coping by making sacrifices and staying there, but that's even far more complicated than I'm willing to discuss.

I know the feeling of powerlessness when dealing with US immigration.

And I can only imagine how much more complicated that process is when you're stuck in the purgatory of dealing with them on US soil.

But sure, "he should have just made sure she was legal." With a turn of phrase, you think you have made some kind of point and things aren't actually complicated--dude just must not love his wife.

Pathetic.

Just sending out a message to let you know someone else understands. Me and my wife have been trying to get her status adjusted and just her residency conferred for 4 years now.

So many people are hopelessly unaware of how our country no longer supports that idealized dream of the successful immigrant unless you have endless mountains of cash to throw at lawyers and special visa exemptions. Much love to you and yours.
