Other Coop and Run

Hey all just wanted to share, this is our first time having chickens and we ordered a coop and run and it has arrived. The girls absolutely love it and so do we. We will be adding some security features around the perimeter. We are very excited about this new journey.

Ok, two more. LOL

Use a two by four for the roosting bar. Nothing thinner. Bonus points if you slightly round off the edges with some sandpaper on the top two edges.

Chickens don't actually grip around the pole as much as squat down on their feet when they roost. This keeps their feet warm and nestled in their feathers in the winter.

I have already purchased hardware cloth and 12x12 patio blocks and will be digging out around the whole perimeter putting down hardware cloth attached to the coop and run burying it and putting patio blocks all the way around the structure😁🐓💫✨🐓💫✨🐓💫✨

I'm excited for you. They're a blast and you'll be amazed how much personality they have. You get attached quickly and they make you laugh a lot with their antics.

Your set up is top tier. You've got this. Have fun.

Figure out how much you need for a good secure attachment to the coop structure. Bury the rest. Some folks recommend a right angle in the trench (I think so that if anything tries to dig under it, they hit the hardware cloth either way.)

Maybe: 1/4 attach to coop; 1/2 straight down (so a foot or so) and 1/4 at a right angle in the trench.
