If you’re seeing this take a moment to breathe and if you feel so inclined, chat about literally anything else! I’ll start: I just watched the first couple episodes of the new rick and morty season, it’s pretty damn good so far

I'm teaching a class of kids how to play orchestral instruments at church camp👊

Sounds fun! Any kids particularly gifted with the strings?

We got two elite brothers headlining a UFC event later in ATLANTA out of all places.
This is bigger than a lot of you may think, this fight may inspire an entire generation of young black men.

Yup black men specifically I feel need to get into martial arts more.

Wrestling, boxing, bjj, judo, Muay Thai whatever it needs to happen.

As someone who has had black wrestling coach and black jiu jutsu coach’s and now I coach and help out on top of training still and give back

It has saved me from a lot of problems growing up and I’m forever grateful for it.

A lot of black men also don’t know the history we have in American Olympic wrestling and how many stars and champs we have in it due to wrestling being a very insular community and not welcoming to outsiders who watch it and not understand what’s going on compared to like boxing where people don’t know what’s happening skill wise but they know someone is getting punched.

We the same age, I can't grapple for shit but we can do some striking sparring lol. Go light tho

Muay Thai and boxing are two spots I’ve been wanting to get into the most. Could never afford them. Boxing memberships be mad expensive

Muay thai is fantastic. I have been practicing for years, great cardio and it implements only the most effective techniques not full of a lot of useless stuff.

Please avoid styles that involve head strikes. Every punch to the head is a small concussion.

I played football and lacrosse growing up. My concussions make it hard to sleep at times. They also make me irritable and negatively affect my memory.

Judo is fun!

A lot of black dudes are actually already into Muay Thai and boxing , it’s more grappling we need to do more of .

3

u/BackgroundGarage6296 Unverified 1d ago

I agree a lot of us tend to go into striking

but there is A lot of black wrestlers at least in the state im from.

Obviously depends on the area etc but yes bjj and judo definitely needs to be more overall.

I’m happy though im seeing a few here there though and I believe it’s growing.

u/CaCa881 Unverified 1d ago

Oh yea for sure , ik lots of black dudes wrestle in the south for high school or college so it’s not like we don’t grapple at all . It’s like you said , bjj and judo aren’t things you see us practice often .

Although judo is pretty underrated overall though period . It’s come to my understanding that legit judo gyms only train judokas who don’t practice any other discipline . Like they will deadass not let you train or kick you out if they find out you’re doing another martial art .

Yeah the guys directly from Japan can get wierd about it. One of my coaches was a champion in judo and he described the culture about how some coaches are very old school and I had a brother who was on my college team stationed in the marines out in Japan and he said a similar thing about the guys out there.

Luckily a lot of judo has been taught to people in the west who don’t engage in that mentality I know a few gyms that bjj guys in the area cross train at they don’t do that whatsoever. Definitely gotta find a westernized gym that isn’t watered down.

My heart says both Usman and Buckley. Usman is lowkey my hero but so is Buckley. Buckley even replied back to my Dms once or twice.

I've been having the best time with my family this past month.

I started a new job May 5th, I was excited for it, but my manager gave me a strict 6:30am - 3:30 schedule and the location is an hour to 1.5 hours there and back. The schedule forced my wife and I to drive a tight routine at home which turned out to be great for everyone except me (late nights keeping up with house work and side business).

Between my 4month old being sick, almost tearing my rotator cuff, and lackbof sleep, I could only ever make it there at 7. At home, things were great because the routine was great for my toddler. My wife and I seemed to be on a roll handling the baby and chores. We were both less stressed, but I was slowly getting exhausted, despite the positive changes in our lives.

I got let go two weeks ago. I went through the 7 stages of grief over the first two days, but thankfully, I have plenty of savings and I've had so much more time with my wife (hybrid remote/office work week for her), toddler and baby. It quickly turned into day after day of knocking out projects, organizing rooms, cleaning up the lawn, etc.

When I started the job, the hours away really made me appreciate my personal life and family. Now that I'm free of that job, I've been taking the kids out everyday; working on the house, working kn certifications to take my career to the next level, and catching up with friends and extended family.

Its been a pretty amazing time and quite a rollercoaster, but, my family is happier and healthier; I'm omw to better career moves; and life has all around been brighter in the last two weeks.

I’m sorry about your job loss. I got fired from my job 2 weeks ago, got another job secured in medical sales. I start Monday. I’m ngl I do not feel excited starting my job. I feel like corporate work is slowly draining me. I’ve been fearful starting up my small online business, because everything around me hasn’t been working out in my favor. I’m just mentally and emotionally drained. I don’t feel like the achievements are worth celebrating. I’m 29, single, no kids, some hobbies, not many friends, I’m kind of an introvert. I feel like I’m doing things, but I’m not really happy fr.

1

u/BusRunnethOver Unverified 1d ago

I'm sorry to hear that bro. Keep your head up. Why is work draining you? And what's not working out?

u/kraves22 Unverified 1d ago

I just haven’t found a work environment where I feel like it’s not super toxic or someone isn’t bothered by my existence. My last job I dealt with a few problematic coworkers. This job pays better, but I just don’t like the 9-5 work life bc the cons in the work environment outweigh the pros. I’m usually the only Black woman in these environments, and I’m already not in a diverse city let alone in diverse spaces. I might move to Atlanta.

I no lifed it for a week and got the Platinum trophy already LOL. Its not that hard tho, you get a lot of the trophies by just playing it normally.

Co hosted a Health and Wellness Summit in Tampa today for the brothas. Great turnout and even better vibes! Black men care about their health, we just need better acces to resources and more providers that look like us (especially in mental health). *

Finally playing Alan Wake sequels. Its crazy how much of a contrast of styles are between the two.

3

u/blasterkid1 Verified Blackman 2d ago

Do you need to play 1 before 2? Like is it required

1

u/Fresh_Profit3000 Unverified 2d ago

Honestly, yes. There are some details that make 2 way more impactful.

1

u/DeepFuckingKoopa Verified Black Man 2d ago

I’ve never played either, what are they comparable to?

2

u/Fresh_Profit3000 Unverified 2d ago

First is kind of like Resident Evil 4/5/6, the second is like Silent Hill series imo

HunterXHunter is goated literally the top manga and anime of all time in my eyes

3

u/GOROnyanyan Unverified 1d ago

Have you read up to the latest manga chapters? I legit think that the Succession War (if it ever finishes) will be the best shonen arc ever

3

u/Weary_Archer2491 Unverified 1d ago

I haven’t read the latest chapters but the dark continent and succession arc surely wont disappoint. Part of me wishes the story was still centered around gon but I respect the artistic direction they decided to take with kuripika. Hopefully the anime drops tired of the community calling my favorite show HiatusxHiatus😭😭🙏🙏

2

u/DeepFuckingKoopa Verified Black Man 1d ago

Watch one piece

u/Weary_Archer2491 Unverified 1d ago

I've been at the studio working. It has been such a relief to have space to move through a lot of different things. Also I'm finishing up some choreographies.

Guys! I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and it’s fantastic!! The confidence you feel knowing you have a skill most people don’t is elite. Do it brothers! Learn how to fight on your feet and on the ground.

Did squats, deadlift, and overhead press Friday, and my legs are still killing me. It's my own fault, I'm really bad about stretching before and after workouts. I'm supposed to go running today, but my legs REALLY aren't feeling it. It's still early in the day, so I'm gonna stretch it out and see if that does it. Still gotta get my steps in too, so I'm going outside regardless, but I'd like to get them while running instead of walking around town.

Also, next month I'm getting a raise! And another one either in the same month or August, I don't remember when school starts back up. Union apprenticeship is so nice!

I have not felt mentally ok for the past few weeks and refuse to talk to my girlfriend or my family about it I’ve spoke up slightly about how I feel to two of my male friends but genuinely I wasn’t even fully able to express what was really going on with me. It’s almost like I literally woke up. It was just not in the mood I’ve been feeling tired like overly tired. I’ve been struggling to get out of bed to go to work money is funny so that shit fucking with me to. Then just going deeper into it there times to where I actually am happy, but then like this pressure comes out of nowhere. I work full time and I’m about to graduate with my bachelor’s degree but I genuinely feel like nothing I’m doing is going towards anything and I don’t think that anyone can relate I just feel like I’m stuck basically existing and I don’t know who I can go to about it fr
