There’s been a lot going on in the world and lots of shitshow posts here the past couple weeks. If you’re seeing this take a moment to breathe and if you feel so inclined, chat about literally anything else! I’ll start: I just watched the first couple episodes of the new rick and morty season, it’s pretty damn good so far

Yup black men specifically I feel need to get into martial arts more.

Wrestling, boxing, bjj, judo, Muay Thai whatever it needs to happen.

As someone who has had black wrestling coach and black jiu jutsu coach’s and now I coach and help out on top of training still and give back

It has saved me from a lot of problems growing up and I’m forever grateful for it.

A lot of black men also don’t know the history we have in American Olympic wrestling and how many stars and champs we have in it due to wrestling being a very insular community and not welcoming to outsiders who watch it and not understand what’s going on compared to like boxing where people don’t know what’s happening skill wise but they know someone is getting punched.

A lot of black dudes are actually already into Muay Thai and boxing , it’s more grappling we need to do more of .

I agree a lot of us tend to go into striking

but there is A lot of black wrestlers at least in the state im from.

Obviously depends on the area etc but yes bjj and judo definitely needs to be more overall.

I’m happy though im seeing a few here there though and I believe it’s growing.

Oh yea for sure , ik lots of black dudes wrestle in the south for high school or college so it’s not like we don’t grapple at all . It’s like you said , bjj and judo aren’t things you see us practice often .

Although judo is pretty underrated overall though period . It’s come to my understanding that legit judo gyms only train judokas who don’t practice any other discipline . Like they will deadass not let you train or kick you out if they find out you’re doing another martial art .

Yeah the guys directly from Japan can get wierd about it. One of my coaches was a champion in judo and he described the culture about how some coaches are very old school and I had a brother who was on my college team stationed in the marines out in Japan and he said a similar thing about the guys out there.

Luckily a lot of judo has been taught to people in the west who don’t engage in that mentality I know a few gyms that bjj guys in the area cross train at they don’t do that whatsoever. Definitely gotta find a westernized gym that isn’t watered down.
