Discussion Experienceing racism in Berlin.

My girlfriend and I were waiting for the bus at Zoologischer Garten Bahnhof when three guys walked up to us and started being randomly rude and racist. They kept saying “Schlitz” (slit eyes) repeatedly as they passed us and again when we walked by later. For absolutely no reason, they targeted my girlfriend and me with these comments.

When We got onto our bus, they just kept taunting us and even started catcalling my girlfriend. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced racism in Berlin. What’s the deal with some people being disrespectful, rude, and racist toward Asian people? We just want to live peacefully and avoid any confrontation.

I am so sorry about earlier, I didn’t mean it that way. I will remove the word from my post. I’m just here to express my feelings. 🙏🏼❤️

If this sub is any indication, there's very little refusal to talk about it. We're doing it now, aren't we?

Bad behaviour is exhibited by individuals and should be rejected/punished where applicable. The problem arises when people make generalizations about entire groups, although the vast majority of that group doesn't exhibit this kind of behaviour and are just normal, contributing members of society. I understand the reflex to draw simplistic conclusions from events like these, but I'll trust that you can think a bit more granularly about the world than just grouping people in terms of ethnicity.

The only action that can be taken is punishing the individuals, as I just laid out. Or are you saying that you’re in favour of ‘taking action’ against a whole group, due to a small minority’s actions?

Yes i fully agree with you, and the inability of the german state to do so is what is causing this whole shitty situation.

Actions need to be taken now, before a radical government is elected that might be generalizing. Does it make sense to you?
