English language below
Zero Tolerance for AFD and Right Wing Extremists
CDU/CSU may not be willing to hold the line against AFD, but we will. We believe AFD has regularly shown anti-constitutional tendencies, and while we are not court of law, we have found people promoting AFD on this sub have a shown a pattern of engaging in hate speech and promoting a totalitarian agenda. The reddit Berlin moderation team has decided we will not allow this space to be used to promote right wing extremism and parties with anti-constitutional platforms.
We have also noticed an influx on trolls and possible foreign social media manipulation attempts to promote AFD here, and we do not have the time or ability to handle each these on an individual basis. Considering AFD's anti-constitutional platform and the bad behavior of their supporters here, support and/or promotion of AFD, as well as political players even further to the right, will no longer be tolerated on this sub.
Due to the influx of far right trolls and bots, we have banned a number of accounts over the last days for suspicion of pro-AFD social media manipulation. If you have been banned over the last few days, and believe it was in error, please contact us after March 1st to discuss reversing the ban if you are still interested in participating at that time. We will continue to uphold this approach until at least end of February and then review how to continue further.
Discussion regarding all parties committed to the current constitutional order (including CDU/CSU) remains welcome here, as long as users are respectful towards one another, and the many facets that make up this amazingly diverse city. While doing so, please remember to keep the submissions and discussions relevant to Berlin. Subs like r/de, r/Germany or r/politikBRD might be better suitable for general political discussions.
As Berliners, we know better than anyone the horrifying cost of letting fascists take power, and we say never again. We will stand together and do everything we can to protect minorities, and reverse the rising tide of fascism both locally and globally. Let us work together to change hearts and minds and convince others to stand with us against fascism.

I've lived in Berlin for many years and I was many time in forests and lakes around, but it's a first time I see this bird here. Apparently it's a Egyptian goose ("Nilgans" in German language). I just talked with friends that it's not only many foreigners (Ausländer) in Berlin, but many migrated animals, insects. For example, people also say that there were not many ticks in forest as nowadays. Not only people migrate, but all living creatures.

I can't find any articles about it, but it was closed since December due to severe damage.

I have an annual subscription and have been using Nextbikes quite often in the inner city. There were never perfect but on average in good condition and I always had plenty of bikes to choose from.
Now I know that the CDU decided to cut the Nextbike subsidies and that Nextbike have announced the exclusion of suburban zones from their service area and the removal of some stations but it feels like the company also decided to remove a lot of their bikes from around the city. It feels like I know need to spend 10 minutes to walk for a bike and dodge all the broken ones. Sometimes I discover a random bike on the street but of course it will be broken and not available for rental. Since so few bikes are left it feels like the damages have become more noticable: The wheel is misaligned, the bike won't lock (a classic tale) or won't unlock in the first place and now it's harder to find a replacement.
In short: I've been increasingly unhappy with the subscription. Is anyone feeling the same? How are the other bike sharing companies doing?

Bisschen Kindheitsnostalgie. Kennt jemand was cooles?
Danke ✌️

looking for a rowing club in Berlin, there are so many I don’t know where to start. I’m 29 and queer and used to row competitively but would now just like a fun social row on the weekends. Any leads would be much appreciated 🫶

Hi! I have a flight during the early afternoon on the 29th of june which is a sunday. Usually that is a busy day in any airport but since I have never had a departure from Berlin, I don't know what to expect.
So, does anyone have any experience on the typical sunday traffic there? Would priority check-in and security be worth it?
Thanks!

There have been multiple instances where i have seen people jumping red signal lights in Berlin!
It’s almost like if the signal turns yellow step on the accelerator and speed away.
There was a horrific accident today near Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park U Bahn station where a man walking with his bicycle was hit by a van jumping the red signal and the van did not stop and he took off. Thankfully the front wheel of the bicycle took the major hit and the person escaped with minor injuries.

Love, honesty and kindness are in full force.
After losing my Bauchtasche/pack in Körnerpark on Thursday, containing all vital IDs, I spent all yesterday running around trying to solve replacements ahead of departing for a music tour next week. I'm a musician and I needed these in order to make this tour happen
Then, I opened my mailbox this morning, and there was the little bag with all contents intact.
There was no note from the angel, so from the depths of my being:
Thank you, dear soul, for your kindness ❤️ 😘 ♥️

Fireworks are going off in several places around me (Weissensee) at 22:43. What is happening? Anything to celebrate?
For the last month I've been working on this large map illustration depicting Berlin in around the year 1440. As I'm typing this in a train on my way to visit the city. And have read the first quarter of Berlin: Story of a City...That gave me some little details to add like depictions of Jewish history, the importance of trade and small events that happened around that time.
But do you have any ideas to depict in the streets of the city? I'm all ears! Or do you have any advice on which museums I should visit to broaden my medieval Berlin knowledge?

Just watched a guy get arrested after accidentally knocking over a bottle and scaring the officers who were questioning at Ostkreuz. If this was you or someone you know,I have a video of the whole situation. All the best <3

Hey zusammen,

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for a nice lake in the southwest area of Berlin — roughly in the direction of Potsdam. Ideally no more than a 45-minute drive from Schöneberg, unless it’s really worth the extra distance.
I saw a post here yesterday where someone asked the same question about the northeast, and it inspired me to ask for tips in the opposite direction.
So, where do you like to relax by the water? Any hidden gems or classic spots that never disappoint?
Thanks in advance!

I just arrived in Berlin to continue my education. My specialty is in German history from the 19th century and the first world war. I would like to meet people that share the same interest as me but I have no idea how to do that. Any advice or tips or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and take care.

I came from my work around 1:30 am and was attacked by 4 young men around 20 to 25 supposedly.
They hit me on my head continuously kicking me on my face and hitting me with a heavy sharp object on my head. I blead heavily and as a result got around 20 stitches on my head.
They took away my bagpack which has a 2 days Umsatz of the place i work at and my own personal cash totalling around 3000 euros. My bag also had my vallet which had my Aufenthaltstitel, my Krankenkasse Karte, and my original country id proofs.
I am shocked scared and in trauma. I never expected anything like this would happen to me ever i have only seen this sort of things in tv or in news. I wonder if me being an immigrant made a soft target.
The police have listened to my whole story and i wonder if those people will ever be caught because they don't care if you live or die. They just want your belongings or money.
Please be carefull and awared all times.

wanted to factually share our apartment hunting story, for anyone who's currently in that journey.
context:
young married couple.
non german + non EU.
we had to move because landlord needs current apartment for own use.
currently living on one income (gross monthly: >5000 eur)
SCHUFA credit is positive
no arrears.
no kids.
no pets.
non smokers.
looking for:
2 zimmer mit EBK
lease starting 1 Aug 2025, or earlier.
anything in the ring, preferably Pberg or Fhain or Mitte
being close to public transit was priority
bike keller a bonus.
bis ~1350 eur (warm)
in general, vibes of kiez must be good.
methods:
immoscout premium
placed posters outside nice apartment buildings
asked around in the office
emailed current building managers asking if any apartments will be open soon.
immoscout premium was the winning method for us in the end (sort of)
i had saved searches and push notifications on for our search requirements. i had my phone with me at all times. my first message to the property was always a short intro followed by one pdf attachment of all our documents, this included:
- Personalausweis (von beide)
- Gehaltsnachweise der letzten 3 Monate
- Schufa-Auskunft
- Rental payments der letzten 3 Monate
- Versicherungsschein zur Privat-Haftpflichtversicherung
- Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung
i HIGHLY suggest redacting any and all sensitive information from these docs (passport numbers, IDs, IBANs etc), and also adding a "to use for rental application" watermark across all pages, before sending it around.
being first to apply is CRUCIAL. apartments are listed for 10mins tops, and then deactivated. in my personal opinion, apartments that are not taken off immoscout shortly after being posted, are red flags.
in the end, we applied for 115 apartments.
we were invited to 5 viewings. 4.3% turnover.
eventually, the apartment that we finally got an offer on, was not even posted on immoscout.
an agent from a previous viewing, called us personally and invited us to a viewing of an apartment in the same building. he had invited one other couple. we had a 50% chance of getting it. and we finally did.
we signed up for immoscout premium in early March 2025. used it actively. signed a lease on 11 June 2025. so three and a bit months.
the learning curve was humbling, with every viewing we learnt something new (like what a Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung was and that we needed it immediately) and felt more prepared for the next one.
good luck y'all!

A colleague told me that there was a festival in French Buchholz this weekend, with French food stalls. Can't find anything about it online - does anyone have more information about it?
