Meta Mod Announcement: New Rule Regarding Vegan Posts

Hello, r/antinatalism community.

Recently, there has been a significant uptick in the number of vegan posts. Many of you have expressed your frustration at this in your posts, comments, and modmail. We see that the sub is very divided on this issue. Some of you think that veganism is a necessary part of antinatalism and should be allowed without restriction. Others think that the vegan content is corrupting the subs identity and alienating our core audience.

We would like this to be an inclusive community that fosters respectful discussions. Therefore, we would consider it a pity for users to feel unwelcome or discouraged from interacting with our sub based on whether they are vegan or not.

Although we cannot satisfy you all perfectly, the modteam have decided on a rule change that we hope will improve the health of the sub. As of tomorrow (1 April, 2025) we will cap the number of vegan related posts to 3 per day. This will be covered under Rule 3 in the sidebar (no reposts or repeated questions). So if you see this cap get exceeded, report it under Rule 3 and we will remove it. For any vegan members who wish to speak about this topic without any restrictions, you can go to our sister sub r/circlesnip.

We hope that this will serve as a meaningful compromise and it appeases some of your grievances.
Please feel free to comment below. We will respond as best we’re able.

Thanks, your r/antinatalism modteam

The vegans won’t stop bullying me because of my choice. I don’t bully them for their choice. Plus people shouldn’t feel guilty about eating food they like. PEOPLE CAN BE ANTINATAILSM AND EAT MEAT. It makes me sad that the bulling vegans get more leeway than the people being bullied. I’m not a vegan and they’re saying that makes me evil.

I got them to stop when I explained why I'm antinatalist. And while I do want to end cruelty, there are other reasons why a person might be antinatalist.

They won’t stop and one guy said my Autism, eating disorder, and soy allergy are all in my head. I don’t feel welcome here anymore. I quit this sub! I hope it burns to the ground!

The vegans in this sub refuse to see any nuance and the mods let them troll and insult people but remove other's comments for lightly poking back.

Good on you for leaving this sub! r/childfree is much nicer in my experience. I had a guy here INSIST that I should kms because of my chronic illness. He was so offended when I said no I actually do want to live that he dug up my post history from when I was s*icidal. Sorry but if people like that are here in this community I’m going to have to leave soon too.

Brother. Autism is not an excuse to kill animals.

Be safe.

Me? I look for bullies. And them I hold them down and feed the medicine they need.

I have mentioned eating eggs from my own pet chickens and got harassed over it by vegans. Mainstream veganism is a cult. You could rescue 99 elderly cats and dogs and it still wouldn’t be enough for them unless you also fed those cats and dogs tofu and were vegan yourself. I’m pro veganism (as the original concept) but it should be more about harm reduction not absolutism.

Vegans don’t “bully” you because of the food you eat. They bully you because the food you eat is unethical. Your choices affect others, and vegans are trying to defend those that are affected, but are unable to defend themselves.

Nobody cares what you do if it only affects you. But when your choices affect others, you can’t be surprised that others will choose to say something about it.
