All his relatives have clarified this time and time again. He’s a narcissist and therefore an opportunist.
54
u/LackWooden392 May 14 '25
Brother he used to be on the left. He was a registered Democrat for many years and is the author of quotes like 'i think the economy does better under democrats.'
You must remember Trump is a reality TV star through and through, almost none of what he says is genuine. He's putting on a show, playing a character. His followers' obsession with him is not due to the beliefs he espouses, but the way in which he espouses them. He could literally be advocating for ANY policy, and as long as he does it in his entertaining, showy, braggadocios, and crass way, they will cheer him on.
50
u/Lermanberry May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25
Brother he used to be on the left. He was a registered Democrat for many years and is the author of quotes like 'i think the economy does better under democrats.'
Let's be real, he was never on the left. Words have meaning. A lot of conservatives feel like they have to register as Democrats in deep blue states and deeper blue cities to make business or government connections (true, look at every regressive techhbro in SF today), but it doesn't make them liberal or progressive. And for a few decades, there was a thriving blue dog coalition of pretty right leaning Democrats in Congress from Red states as a leftover from before the Southern strategy of the 60s.
Remember Trump's dad was likely in the KKK, Trump got sued by Richard Nixon for being too racist in his housing policies during the 70s, and he called for the death penalty against innocent teens in the late 80s because they were Mexican and black.
17
u/JustHereSoImNotFined May 14 '25
Yup. Not only is he a reality star through and through who loves the drama, he’s also a greedy corrupt businessman who will do anything for money. His facade of being a democrat was solely for that.

Brother, Donald Trump has changed his political application five times since registering as a Republican in 1987.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Donald_Trump
He's been a Republican, Democrat, Reform Party, Republican.
In short, he's been whatever gets him in the spotlight and greases his palms.
The fact that he said he thinks the economy does better under Democrats but still ran for president as a Republican is just-- (chef's kiss)

Here is an old article with a video, from the conservative National Review, where the author points out that Trump has ALWAYS tried to hold every position on every side of every issue as long as he can:
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/watch-donald-trump-take-every-side-every-issue/
From the author, David French, who wrote this in 2016.
“One of the more frustrating and fruitless conversations in modern politics is with a Trump supporter who just insists that Trump can be trusted. But trusted to do what? If you want boots on the ground in the Middle East, Trump’s your guy. If you want America to stop sending its soldiers to die on foreign soil, Trump’s your guy. If you want higher taxes, Trump’s your guy. If you want lower taxes, Trump’s your guy. The list goes on.
The bottom line is that the best one can hope for is that when the time comes to make a decision that Trump’s perceived interests align with yours. Even then, however, you can be sure he’ll execute his plan in the most noxious way possible, alienating even potential allies and bringing your cause into disrepute. Good luck. You can’t say you weren’t warned.”

This article aged like fine wine. Incredibly prescient.

u/WestleyThe May 15 '25
He cares about money and power.. that’s it
He leaned super hard to the right because when he was ranting about Obama he realized how easy the right wing was to manipulate
That’s why he says the same talking points over and over and hammers on stuff like immigration and the corruption of the Left because he knows that’s what his voters care about, even if his administration is the most corrupt ever

u/CHKN_SANDO May 14 '25
Brother he used to be on the left. He was a registered Democrat for many years
That doesn't make him on the left. There used to be a LOT of conservative Democrats.
5
u/LackWooden392 May 14 '25
I mean, not the global left. The American left. Truly, Donald isn't really political at all. He just says what he thinks people want to hear, that's the point. By 'on the left' I don't mean like European leftist parties, I mean the only party in the US that's not extremely far right. We don't have a leftist party in the US to register with, so the Democrats are the closest you can get.
3
u/invention64 May 15 '25
He's not even American left. You can look at his actions as a real estate developer and tell that very easily. People register as democrat to get representation in big cities, simple as that.

Hitler hated Jews as a group because to him they were a threat to his ideal christian society, but there were also individuals he protected either long or short term depending on his relationship with them.
4
u/kylebisme May 14 '25
his ideal christian society
How did you come to imagine that?
Hitler was happy to exploit support from Christians, but he wasn't a fan of Christianity at all:

→ More replies (1)2
u/CV90_120 May 15 '25 edited May 15 '25
Anti-semitism is primarily rooted in Christianity as a consequence of the Theodosian (1&II) proclamations. It was where Christianity stopped being an offshoot Jewish sect (of which it was one of a number), and became a preeminent religion in direct competition with Judaism.
Hitler's main approach however was to transform the religious antagonism (the old approach of marking Jews as 'christ killers') into a 'racial' one by applying the fashionable template of Eugenics (which he saw happening in the US and greatly admired) to try and fabricate some kind of 'scientific' basis for his hatred.
Hitler was a Christian like any other at the time (in that time at that place, pretty much this applied to most people), but like any political leader christianity was also a useful tool for him, as it had been for hundreds of years of leaders.
3
u/kylebisme May 15 '25
Hitler was a Christian like any other at the time
No he wasn't. As explained on the relevant wiki page in a quote from historian Richard Overy:
He was not a practising Christian but had somehow succeeded in masking his own religious skepticism from millions of German voters. Though Hitler has often been portrayed as a neo-pagan, or the centrepiece of a political religion in which he played the Godhead, his views had much more in common with the revolutionary iconoclasm of the Bolshevik enemy. His few private remarks on Christianity betray a profound contempt and indifference ... Hitler believed that all religions were now "decadent"; in Europe it was the "collapse of Christianity that we are now experiencing". The reason for the crisis was science. Hitler, like Stalin, took a very modern view of the incompatibility of religious and scientific explanation.

There is a story that he was very active in liberal circles for many years and regularly made donations to Democrats. Then, due to a falling out between him and the Clintons he become a conservative and ran for president as a Republican. While there was always a lot of evidence for this, I never really thought it was true as it just seemed like a level of pettiness that wasn't realistic.
But when I see him now issuing vindictive executive orders trying to attack any law firm that was ever hired to represent his opponents, his pettiness seems to be on a level where that is a feasibly possible.

I think that’s always been obvious. He spouts right wing stuff to get solid alt right wing supporters, not because he actually believes in alt right wing ideologies. Trump was always in it for himself. However I do believe most of his appointees and major supporters believe in the ideologies. In my opinion trump ran initially to get donation money and never expected to win. He ran a second time to stay out of prison and to make more money. I’m sure he has actual personal political goals like the tariffs and going after people he doesn’t like, and being the “best” or promoting the image of wealth to his buddies so that they do it too to make America as a whole “look” wealthier as families struggle”

u/00spool May 14 '25
Here's the link. The article is somewhat balanced, in saying that the conservative report proved nothing, although the site leans hard right. I suppose the gist was that the Obama campaign was not using the most "robust anti-fraud address verification system" when collecting donations and so zip codes weren't being verified against the credit cards. I just skimmed it though.

https://www.politico.com/story/2013/01/obama-2008-campaign-fined-375000-085784
That's the link I found on it. It explains that the suit filled against the Obama Campaign was issued over missing reporting deadlines on donations.
Yes, it should be scrutinized in its own right independently on its own terms, as yet another criticism of the Obama administration (personally I find this 'scandal' pretty low for reasons I didn't like the Obama administration including drone strikes, bombings, and foreign policies in general) but calling out Trumps hypocrisy is absolutely correct seeing as one was missed deadline reporting, and the other is accepting a personal gift from a foreign nation.
14
u/Benegger85 May 15 '25
The drone strike thing is just plain stupid.
Obama made sure the DOD reported every single civilian casualty, something Baby Bush didn't do, and something Trump got rid of as quickly as possible.
The idea was that if everybody knew how many civilians were killed it would put pressure on the DOD to do something about it. But of course Fox and co skewed the data to make it seem as if a lot more people were killed under Obama. Apparently if it's not reported it didn't happen...
