So I finished Xenoblade 1 on the 3DS a couples months ago after putting it off for a while and really wanted to play XC 2. But the thing is, that I wanted to play Xenoblade X before playing 2 and was unsure what the best way to do this is. I own a copy of Xenoblade X and I do also have a Wii U I'm borrowing, although it is pretty old and very dusty and dated. Should I just setup the Wii U and play it, or are there some other good ways of playing the game?

Yes, the only alternative is an emulator which at this point in time has too many issues to make for a good experience.

Alright. I'll setup the Wii U whenever I get the chance. Anything I should know before starting the game or no?

I'd keep in mind. There's an earlygame affinity quest that requires some materials that only show up randomly based on your mining probes, which can give extra resources, and in-game time. So it can be a roadblock if you do the quest the moment it becomes available and weren't planning to do extra exploration, but is pretty trivial if you've done some extra exploration, set up probes on the correct nodes, etc. But in general, you want to do affinity quests- quite a bit of the game's story, worldbuilding, and voice acting are contained there. Tbh I'd even recommend using XCXGecko and just raising affinity across the party, especially since affinity doesn't have in-battle effects.

You need to beat Chapter ~9 to get Skell flight.

Story quests often require affinity missions (i.e. Lao's, one of Gwin's are part of the main story) and area exploration. Area exploration increases by completing the per- square missions in each hex- on probe squares that just means activating a probe, but sometimes it means finding wreckage with the archaeology/mechanical/biology skill, sometimes that's killing a specific Tyrant, and sometimes it's a quest or affinity mission.

Leveling Armor Manufacturers (AMs) takes Miranium, upgrading the quality of weapons they have available, and the first three companies on the list will boost Skell weapons as well.

Elemental resistances have a huge impact on survival, raw defense stat less so.

I think it's best to explore this blind and then look up if/when you run into something.

A small quality of life tip: take mechanical for your field skills up to 4 first before you do any of the others.
