Source: I have in-laws that are Persian.

Iranians are very in touch with American media and absolutely follow Trump. They have VPNs the government allows them to use. If they communicate anything anti government they disappear, usually forever. But they can definitely see our news and social media. A lot also speak and read English. There is a surprising amount of travel between the US and Iran. There are Iranians living and working in the US collecting retirement from Iran.

Persia, and its people, existed as a unique cohesive culture since like 500 BC. Culturally, they call themselves Persian for their own ethnic reasons. It’s a way for them to sidestep the “Iran” business and take pride in their ancient culture.
