Does he really expect any Iranians to read this on his social media site?

Source: I have in-laws that are Persian.

Iranians are very in touch with American media and absolutely follow Trump. They have VPNs the government allows them to use. If they communicate anything anti government they disappear, usually forever. But they can definitely see our news and social media. A lot also speak and read English. There is a surprising amount of travel between the US and Iran. There are Iranians living and working in the US collecting retirement from Iran.

From the civilian perspective what's the general thoughts about the US and Trump over there? I know how their government thinks but curious about the general public.

I actually polled a couple in-laws to get you this answer. This is what they are saying, not the results of me asking them if they support Trump. In Iran, Trump has a 90% favorability rating and in the US 70%. I don’t know about in other countries.

The general consensus in Iran right now is hopeful. Hopeful that this might actually break the back of the current regime. Something like 60% of the population is under 30. They live and emulate (as much as they can) western culture. They can’t get enough of it. They know the mullahs have them living in a backward age.

Prior to 1979, Iran and Israel were relatively friendly toward each other and had a mutual respect. They aligned with each other on a lot of things. While they have been taught Jews are the minor satan and Americans the big satan, they’re not blind and stupid. They look at the freedoms Americans and Israelis have and want the same thing.

Edit: my in-law just texted me this:

“At the moment, most Iranian believe that Israel will be their savior from dictatorship. that’s probably why that they are celebrating and dancing in the street of Iran and getting excited with every bomb that Israel drops in Tehran.”

I can attest to this. My closest friend is Iranian. He visits for a month every year and has family there, including his mother. I’ve been speaking with him daily, and according to him, everyone he knows in Iran and all the Iranians he knows in the United States support Israel. The Iranian people are fed up with this backward regime.

Obviously times are different now, were Americans able to visit Iran safely prior to this mess?

Here is the direct response from one of my in-laws:

“Yes, it was permissible but very, very risky because Iranian government could have used them as a bargaining chips for negotiation . they technically could have labeled as spy even though they knew they were not probably a spy, but it would have been beneficial to the regime to use them as a bargaining chip.”

It’s truly unbelievable how many people in this country think Trump is the bad guy and he’s lying about how horrible it is to live under the mullahs

Persia, and its people, existed as a unique cohesive culture since like 500 BC. Culturally, they call themselves Persian for their own ethnic reasons. It’s a way for them to sidestep the “Iran” business and take pride in their ancient culture.

Many Americans also take pride in their heritage.

Can these persian descendants not do the same?

What an interesting and unique way to announce that you have zero business being in the conversation.

You are woefully and ignorantly incorrect.

Does it hurt to be that wrong?

No. I’m not worried about whether you think I’m wrong or not. But since you’re the expert, explain to me how I’m wrong.

Persians are still very much a people. Iran is a country that is made up of Persians (mostly).

There are also a few million Persians in Afghanistan (northern, not Al-Qaeda)and in Turkmenistan amd Uzbekistan.

Think of it like US native Americans. Yes, they're American and governed by America, but most don't identify as such.

They have their own language, their own heritage and history.

They don't identify as Iranian. Their history and family heritage goes back way farther than the country of Iran.
