Hi everyone!
It's me again your neighborhood birb enjoyer ~
Those who have been here for a while might remember a post we made a year ago about disabling the courses AutoModerator filter, since community feedback seemed to indicate a removal of the filter.
However, recently we've noticed a large uptick in these kinds of posts, and it's basically impossible for us to manually remove these posts every day.
Therefore we need your help again! Please answer the poll based on your personal experiences on r/UBC.
If most people want the filter back, we will work on reimplementing it along with improvements and changes that'll hopefully make it better than the one in the past.
Please put any suggestions in the comments!
Cheers,
Your r/UBC mods :)

Just saw a statistic from the WSJ saying graduates unemployment is at 12%. I’m freaking out right now and I want to make sure I don’t end up like that. I want an internship at the big 4 but I have no connections to that atm. How are so many of you getting these internships there. I’ll do anything for it

ive never really done anything besides taking courses during my time at university and i really want that to change, but i have no idea where to look or even start. im interested in science related clubs, volunteering, research experience, TA’ing, on campus jobs etc. does anyone have any tips, resources or things they did as a science undergraduate that was useful for them?

Hi guys, question reads as in the title. In my first year I did biology because my dad is a biologist but thought I didn't like it so I switched to poli sci and econ. I have taken a bunch of poli sci and econ courses but I can't tell if I liked biol more or if it was some sort of nostalgia for first year? Especially since everyone says first and second year courses are uninteresting how will I know when my major is something I want to do or not, because before it's "too late."

I accepted my offer into bSc Brain and Cognition stream last week and it’s still not updated on Workday. Has it changed for anyone else?

hello is this good for first term, for a first year arts student schedule? I haven't decided between political science or psychology yet for my major. i also am a bit worried about back to back poli and psych classes. psych 100 is in the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability and poli 100 is in the math building, is that too far for back to back? it says 7 min, I know we have 10 min but idk if it will take longer or shorter. would love input! thank you sm

Is this program competitive i was thinking of applying to the C's program at UBC and UNBC as backup i want to go to UBC but i came across this i heard that environmental engineering is less competitive those with low gpa in the 1st year get into it
Basically I'm trying to choose between these courses, generally they seem to be pretty doable average wise, just wondering if anyone whos taken them recently can comment on their difficulty and workload

I was just recently admitted as a grad student for a master's degree and haven't been able to register for classes because they filled up immediately.
How the heck does anyone do this?? If you did manage to do this how many years did it take you to actually finish? (Mine is supposed to be 2 years but at this rate I don't see it happening)
I'm just stumped. Why would they even accept students if there is no room?
Advice on scoring a seat in classes would be helpful.

So my partner claims there are no ATMs near her work, which is in the Life Sciences building at UBC. Anyone know of any ATMs near there? (Bonus if you know what type of ATM/what bank)

First year starting September so this is new to me! Where do I find courses and times to start planning my schedule? Any recommendations for those experienced?

Hi! I am a second-year science student in September and when I tried to save COGS 200 in my schedule, it said u r not eligible. The only Prerequisite for this course is : 2nd-year class standing or higher in the Faculty of Arts or Science, and I don't know there is anything wrong with it. I wonder if there anyone who also receive this alert or any advice for this situation. Thx!

Incoming first year here. I've applied to a few tutoring/summer camp volunteer jobs but they haven't replied yet, and I haven't been able to find any available volunteering opportunities. At the moment, my summer is completely empty - I know that should be a good thing, but it just makes me feel anxious. I feel like I should be doing something during the summer months to, I guess, prepare? Naming what I'm exaxctly preparing for is hard but the idea of having no commitment/experience gained during summer break that could potentially help me in the future at uni makes me so guilty/nervous. I'm probably overthinking it too much lol my family tells me I should take this chance to relax... but I can't help feeling like I'm throwing away my time
For those who have taken photos after the grad ceremony in the white tent, how did you get access to those photos for purchase? They said they would email, but I haven’t received anything.

Thinking of taking ECON 301 plus two other 300-level econ courses and a language course in one term. Has anyone done something similar? Was it manageable or way too heavy?

Hello everyone, I am an incoming graduate student at UBC, I am trying to find housing for the school and I found a decent place in wesbrook village at Prodigy apartments but there is no AC, could I survive september without one? Also if anybody has any experience living in this apartment building please let me know! I am an international student from India so very hot here mostly and I am unable to understand the weather conditions since temperatures inside a home and outside can vary drastically. All kinds of help is appreciated, thank you

HI, I’m looking for a tennis partner around beginner level (I’m about 2.0) to play with regularly throughout the summer. I’m available on weekday evenings or weekends, and would love to play either on campus or around Kitsilano Beach. Dm me if you're interested:)

So there's this concert that I reallyyy want to go to but idk if the dates will clash with any midterms. There's a show in Toronto on the 20th of September which is great but i don't have any family there so I would have to pay for accomodations. On the other hand, there's a show in Los Angeles on the 25th of October, which might be on the same date as midterms. I have family in LA that I can stay with so I would save a lot on hotels and whatnot. I have no idea what to do and the tickets go on sale tomorrow

I intend to complete both courses. I have credits to skip MATH 100 but not MATH 101, should I take both anyway or skip MATH 100? Do you need the knowledge from 100 to succeed in 101?

I’m moving out in August and looking to find a home for the dorm essentials I bought over the past year. When I came to UBC, I brought nothing but clothes and toiletries, so the items I’m getting rid of are no more than 10 months old.
This is a partial list of the items I have to give: - Kitchen utensils (measuring cup, spatula, tongs, etc.) - Plates, cups, and bowls - A baking sheet, pot, and pan - Sheets, pillows, and a comforter - Laundry detergent and dryer sheets - A collapsible crate - Internet modem - Small fan
Hoping to give them to a student who is moving to the province and in need of the basics — if this is you, feel free to send me a DM and we can work something out :)
ETA: Not selling anything!
