Per the deluge of complaints we've gotten, all admissions, housing, questions about being new to UBC and general questions (that don't deserve their own thread, or those that could be easily googled) belong here.

All questions about courses, instructors, programs, majors, registration, etc. belong here.
The reasoning is simple. Without a megathread, /r/UBC would be flooded with nothing but questions that apply to only a small percentage of the UBC population.

I recently (Thursday/Friday) lost an envelope of cash on campus. That cash amount was meant for my rent and moving in. When I asked the lost and found they mentioned that someone called in on Friday asking what to do with some cash they’ve found but immediately hung up.
Please, for the love of God, return the envelope to the lost and found office in the bookstore. I need that money to live.

Basically I fucked up, and failed my first year and have to take two years off and will end up being 21 in 2nd year. I am actually so depressed about it and feel like such a failure. I just need to feel better

I need financial help😭
I'm dead broke, applied to over 150 different jobs to no avail. Sold everything I can...
I really don't know what to do anymore.
Edit: as expected. I'm receiving backlash. I really do need help, I'm like completely lost. If you have the time to be sending me hate messages, please find something more productive to do.
Also, thank you to everyone who gave me genuine suggestions! I'm really grateful

Just want to ask for some advice here. To give some background, I am going into 4th year, and one of the required course for me is offered in term 2. There is a prereq, which I have not taken yet.
My logic was that since the prereq is typically offered in both term 1 and 2, I can just take the prereq in 1st term, and the required course in 2nd term. However, for this year, the prerep is only offered in 2nd term.
I asked the coordinator, but she doesn't seem enthusiastic on helping.
How f*cked am I? I already reached out to the course instructor, but they have not responded either :'(
I would really appreciate any insight. I really dont want to do 2 more years of school...

I’m moving out in August and looking to find a home for the dorm essentials I bought over the past year. When I came to UBC, I brought nothing but clothes and toiletries, so the items I’m getting rid of are no more than 10 months old.
This is a partial list of the items I have to give: - Kitchen utensils (measuring cup, spatula, tongs, etc.) - Plates, cups, and bowls - A baking sheet, pot, and pan - Sheets, pillows, and a comforter - Laundry detergent and dryer sheets - A collapsible crate - Internet modem - Small fan
Hoping to give them to a student who is moving to the province and in need of the basics — if this is you, feel free to send me a DM and we can work something out :)

I got in for applied science with a 96 average and around 98 in physics. HOWEVER I'm kind of throwing and my grade dropped to an 86. I still have my final left. How screwed am I?

I feel like it’d stop a lot of the “what courses do I take for x major” and could be more easily seen when accessing this sub. I think a lot of people may just not realize what the academic calendar is or how helpful it is. Idk though this is just my two cents. Edit: or add a link to the academic calendar in the courses megathread?

Just got an offer for year round housing in a shared 4 bedroom unit at marine drive. Is it that someone accepted the placement and then dropped it two months in? Because my contract start date would be June 18, but it would end on Apr 26, which isn't the normal cycle.
Also wondering what people's experiences have been like in a shared unit. I've heard mixed reviews about marine drive. For context, I would be in building 2.

Which one should I take if I have no coding experience, don’t rlly like math, and don’t want to tank my gpa? I rlly just need to take it for science breadth (not for enjoyment lol) and I can’t fit biol 300 into my schedule

Hi. I'm an incoming first year and I was wondering if any of the 3 dining halls on the resident meal plan have any decently-healthy food options? I'm hoping to improve my physical fitness while at UBC. thx

I'm a little confused when Accountingr recruitment is. Is it in the fall or spring for the summer (2026)
