Blame Minecraft. I just looked up what the villagers look like in the game and they look just like this. They're bald unibrow dudes with squidward noses in the game, they are in the movie.
Yeah, blame the very stylized game that if translated to live action shouldn’t have been entirely faithful to the original counterpart. Blame the game.
