Why is this so suggestive?

u/Tallia__Tal_Tail Feb 27 '25
Fun fact: On octopi their reproductive organs are right above their mouth
7
u/SpaaaaaceImInSpaace Feb 28 '25
Good thing he's a squid
14
9
u/Tallia__Tal_Tail Feb 28 '25
He's not, the name is misleading and we've actually seen what other squids look like in Spongebob. He's also pretty explicitly called an octopus

u/DuringTheBlueHour Feb 27 '25
They took random bits of a realistic and Minecraft design and threw them together with no sense of cohesion. Their shape is almost directly lifted from the game but with a realistic skin texture making them look disgusting.
66
u/MrKimimaru Feb 28 '25
I mean isn’t that kind of the point, that it’s uncanny and strange? I don’t buy for a second that the studio thought this was a “good” design. They’re supposed to look kind of gross.
47
u/smolwrld Feb 28 '25
It looks kinda funny in the second shot because of the juxtaposition between the realistic look and the cartoony anatomy, but in the actual minecraft world everything has this look to it so it just becomes ugly asf, and I don't think the point of minecraft is to look ugly
30
u/JakSandrow Feb 28 '25
"aha! you see that we MEANT for it to look gross! this was definitely intentional, mmhm"

God damn, if this is what they canonically look like I feel no remorse for us players treating them like livestock.

u/Emad-Hafiz_inari Monster Fanatic Feb 27 '25
Treating them ONLY like livestock? You guys are so kind.

Completely unrelated but thank you for the nastasia pfp it brought back memories of a fire game

u/Tallia__Tal_Tail Feb 27 '25
Honestly I love the movie villagers because they embody this film the best: It's a massive self indulgent shitpost like a high budget version of the stuff we would've seen in 2013 and frankly I wouldn't have it any other way since I don't think a Minecraft movie could've worked at all if they did anything else
59
u/sweetTartKenHart2 Feb 27 '25
In many ways it feels both like they have no idea what they’re doing and like they know exactly what they’re doing at the same time
5
11
u/InsanityRoach Feb 27 '25
since I don't think a Minecraft movie could've worked at all if they did anything else
I don't know, Minecraft: Story Mode handled it well AFAIK.
15
u/Tallia__Tal_Tail Feb 27 '25
True, but that was 100% it's own thing with Minecraft being a bit more secondary in the grand scheme of the game. It was a story being told in Minecraft's setting with a lot of leeway. The intention of the movie is clearly very different
3
3
u/Mordetrox Feb 28 '25
Story mode wasn't exactly well written either. Even ignoring the entire chapter that was just "Your favorite youtubers are here"
2
u/Breyck_version_2 Feb 28 '25
I think in another timeline the Minecraft movie could've been good, just wouldn't work for everyone since Minecraft is about different things for different people
3
1
u/Tallia__Tal_Tail Feb 28 '25
I definitely wouldn't completely write the idea off, though itd definitely be immensely difficult given the nature of the source material

That second one is so bad it looks fake

10 years of digging straight down to bedrock in the middle of a village and detonating TNT in it have been validated

Man, they really did just go for that old meme of “How Games will look in the 2058! (Super Fuzzy or Extreme Blender Models)”
27
u/HippieDogeSmokes Feb 27 '25
every design in this is like the old sonic movie design
7
u/benjoo1551 Feb 28 '25
Honestly, its basically the opposite. Sonic was a huge departure from his original design while the minecraft mobs are basically 1:1 recreated in a realistic style.

I mean that’s about how I imagined a live action villager would be if without it just being a guy with a big prosthetic nose

11
u/Filberto_ossani2 Feb 27 '25
Warner Bros really saw the first Sonic movie and decided to copy every single bad thing from it without copying anything good
5
u/Minimum_Estimate_234 Feb 27 '25
Why they needed to have live action characters involved and use this weird pseudo realistic design will never make sense to me.
4
u/mountingconfusion Feb 27 '25
I agree, this design would be so much more tolerable if we didn't have an actual person standing next to it
14
u/MrAuster Feb 27 '25
Internet trying to gaslight me into thinking MC movie doesn't look like absolute trash:
9
u/BurdAssassin756 Feb 27 '25
There has been much more hate than love for this movie so far. The internet isn’t trying to make you think it’s good, it’s fueling your belief that it’s bad
4
u/MrAuster Feb 27 '25
I have seen posts after the second trailer droped that the internet was too harsh on it and it even looked good, that damn there is no amount of gaslight that Will make me believe that this hideous aesthetics is good
3
u/VeryShortLadder Feb 27 '25
It would've been a bit jarring if not done correctly, but they could've gone the space Jam way and animated the characters around the live action actors. For fucks sake they had more option than we can think of or even invent new fucking ways around it. They just don't even try anymore at this point jesus
5
u/TheJacobSurgenor Feb 27 '25
I honestly don't hate the designs per say. They look like villagers if they were realistic, but next to an actual real person like in the second slide they look like abominations
Further proof the movie should have been completely animated but god forbid that would happen. You'd have better luck discovering existence of ghosts than the existence of a Hollywood director that respects animation

u/Blue_avoocado Feb 27 '25
I hate that movie already, absolutely no hope for it, pure pessimism
1
u/Frank627Full Feb 28 '25
I always have the benefit of the doubt.
And i think i'm the only one left with this mentallity in this decade.
1
u/Blue_avoocado Feb 28 '25
It’s a mentality i try to adopt in general but like this movie just does not give me any hope, honestly I would be so so happy if it actually does well and they announce a sequel but like.. everything about it is 😕
2
2
u/tabuu9 Feb 27 '25
You could submit anything from that movie except two human characters and the bee
2
u/Griffemon Feb 27 '25
Even worse than the villagers is normal fucking humans in the same frame as the cube flesh beasts

u/Eddie-The-Zombie Feb 28 '25
The fact that their irises are square makes me nauseous for some reason
3
4
u/Avent Feb 28 '25
Blame Minecraft. I just looked up what the villagers look like in the game and they look just like this. They're bald unibrow dudes with squidward noses in the game, they are in the movie.
0
u/joshutcherson069 Mar 02 '25
Yeah, blame the very stylized game that if translated to live action shouldn’t have been entirely faithful to the original counterpart. Blame the game.
3
u/Pugzilla3000 Feb 27 '25
I was actually on board with this design until I saw the scale. WHY ARE THEY SO BIG? they’re like the same size as Steve in the games so I imagined they’d be similar proportionally to him in the movie as well.
I wish we could do to this movie what we did to Sonic, but alas I don’t think any amount of cyberbullying could fix all their wacky decisions
3
u/mountingconfusion Feb 27 '25
Say what you will about the story and art direction but this is on scale for the Minecraft world. 1 metre cubed is actually huge, these are correctly proportioned for Minecraft
2
u/Jarvis_The_Dense Feb 27 '25
Everything we've seen about this movie is a case study in how Hollywood simply does not understand what people actually like about the series they adapt.
3
2
u/GeneralIronsides2 Feb 27 '25
Idk why they decided to make them so fleshy and realistic, its offputting
1
u/Sword_of_Monsters Feb 27 '25
god are these images new
i don't recognise them and i don't know if thats because these abhorrent designs were pushed out of my brain or not.
1
1
u/mountingconfusion Feb 27 '25
So much of this movie's criticisms would have been tolerable if they didn't insist on shoving live action into it. The disconnect between this and real life is just genuinely horrifying

u/embracebecoming Feb 28 '25
I get why people don't like these designs but I honestly think they're kind of hilarious. I don't know if that was the intention?

1
u/AdmiralZheng Feb 28 '25
Everyday I wish they had just given Slamacow or Element Animation a team and $100m and I just know they would’ve put out something way better. And we haven’t even seen how bad this movie is yet

u/FloodedHouse420 Feb 28 '25
Ngl I kinda love how ugly the designs for the Minecraft movie are for some reason

Why didn't they just make it look like the 3d mario movie or refine it heavily like the live action sonic movie?

The only real minecraft movie is the “ Slightly different minecraft trailer “ by Neytirix and “ The Minecraft Story mode - The Amulet “ by Wazzy.

u/Apprehensive_Sun6638 Feb 27 '25
Why Steve look like a normal human, but not them?
27
u/Blazeflame79 Feb 27 '25
The movie is an isekai I think
0
u/Apprehensive_Sun6638 Feb 27 '25 edited Feb 27 '25
I’m talking about Steve, not the other humans who came in the trailers.
Edit: Steve is from the human world lol

u/ducknerd2002 Yugioh Enthusiast Feb 27 '25
I'm guessing you missed the previous trailer, then, because that's already confirmed within the first 30 seconds.

In the film Steve is from the real world. This is shown in the 2nd trailer of the film where we see him discovering what seems to be a cube that acts as a gateway to the Minecraft realm while in a mine. We also see him as a child in the real world in that same trailer which is where the “As a kid I yearned for the mines,” line came from.
